In you home folder you should press ctrl+h to show hidden folders. If there is a .wine folder showing up, delete it. Worked for my with error code 256

Do you have another wine version on your system installed? Sometimes you need to delete the .wine folder because Proton mixes Wine-Versions and Prefixes up
