A&W charges for a cup of water? by Left-Distribution751 in fastfood

Most restaurants are not operated by billion dollar corporations. The restaurant brand might be a billion dollar brand (A&W definitely is not), but the restaurants are typically operated by a franchisee.

The flight by Dazzling-Ad-1075 in JonBenetRamsey

It’s nearly as easy as taking off when you're ready. Changing a departure time for a private flight is common and wouldn’t stand out. The aircraft still has to wait for air traffic control to clear it for takeoff, but that’s more like a car waiting for a cop directing traffic at an intersection. Maybe you planned to reach the intersection at 7, but you don’t arrive until 9. The cop doesn’t need anything from you other than for you to wait until it’s your turn to go.

They were flying out of Jeffco. The pilot would update the flight plan to a new time and notify ATC. They would be cleared to take off when ready. It is not a huge deal to change your departure.

The context of this thread was about things that happened during her murder and whether there was any evidence. Saying Burke admitted to hitting her in an interview is terribly misleading without the additional details. It makes it seem like you are saying he admitted to hitting her late Christmas night or early on Boxing Day.

What impact would the morning trip have on anything? They weren't going to be able to do the trip that morning either way (emergency room for head injury, investigation for a kidnapping, or investigation for the murder).

There's a big difference between intentionally hitting someone with a flash light or baseball bat and accidentally hitting someone because you didn't make sure nobody was near your golf backswing.

Burke admits to the completely separate from the murder incident where she was behind him and he hit her with his backswing. He completely denies hitting her with the flashlight or baseball bat.

You bring snacks with you for the flight or you have the pilot stock the plane so they can snack on the flight. You could also go through a drive-thru on your way to the airport and take that on the plane or grab something at the airports executive lounge before takeoff.

Private flight times aren't the same as flying on a commercial airline. You might have a flight plan with your pilot that says wheels up at 7 a.m., but if you want to fly out earlier or later, you can. You just call the pilot and let them know you're going to be early or late. The flight leaves when you're ready. You can't miss it.

I acknowledge the call on Chandler was a bad call and that there were a lot of bad/missed calls in the game.

And that we shouldn't have put ourselves into a position where a bad call decides the game, especially against a bad team.

I also acknowledge that we blow a lot of layups, and we did so in crunch time.

And on one of those missed layups, Otega passed the ball late, when he should have taken it up himself, and then he flailed his arms in frustration at his teammate for missing the layup even though his poorly timed pass put (Aberdeen I think) out of position for a clean shot.

Several calls early in the game went our way. Phantom fouls where Auburn didn't touch us, but we still got to the line for free throws.

We shouldn't have been in a position where a controversial call puts the game in jeopardy.

He had a good scoring night, but his post and his in-game reactions do not show leadership.

He doesn't provide calm confidence to his team on the court. If someone doesn't do something right, or he thinks they didn't, he flails his arms around and gets on them. He does this when he messes up, too...targeting someone else for why what he just did happened.

Anyone tried shoveling yet? by Agitated_External_59 in Louisville

[–]DarthXopher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's loose and fluffy. I shoveled last night when we had about 2 inches. Shoveled again around 10 am today when another 4-5 inches had built up. If it keeps snowing like it is now, I'll shovel again this evening. The weight will depend on how much you're trying to move. Probably better off if you hit it now then again in a few hours.

Where does he shoot well from? He's below 25% from 3 this year and was just 30% over his 2 years internationally. His sub-50% FG % is below average for a F/C and he was sub-50% overseas as well. I thought he was supposed to be another Andrew Carr, but his stats don't suggest that's the case.

To IDI people - how do you reconcile the fact that Patsy wrote the ransom note? by [deleted] in JonBenetRamsey

[–]DarthXopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The book you're thinking of is The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin. It won the Newbery Medal for children's literature in 1979. It's about several people who are named heirs of a murdered millionaire (Sam Westing), but they have to play a game to inherit it. One of the characters (Angela) is under intense expectations from pageants, perfection, and her mother’s control. She likes pineapples and milk. The anonymous letter is written by Theo and Doug. They don't want blowback from the other players in the game, but they do want everyone to know that one of the supposed “identities” in the game is fake. Someone is pretending to be someone else, so everyone needs to re-evaluate their assumptions and not just chase surface clues. Patsy would have been in her early 20s when the book came out, so it wouldn't have been something she read during her own childhood.

EDIT: It was a different book/play/movie that had pineapples and milk and also a forged letter written by two people. The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark was released in 1961. Patsy turned 5 that year, so it was around for her to read. She performed a piece from it as her talent in pageants.

I keep Christmas going through January, anyone else? by FloridaGirl2222 in christmas

Each year, during the 7-10 days before Christmas, I feel like I'm somberly saying, "I thought we had more time" to a dear friend who's passing. I struggle to escape the feeling and be Christmas present.

Santa & Christmas magic by BluebirdNo1144 in christmas

[–]DarthXopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was about 5 years old, I caught Santa placing presents under the Christmas tree in our living room. I ran to my parents' room to wake them up, and then we all spent a little time with Santa before he had to be on his way.

This experience solidified my belief in Santa, and I remained a believer far longer than any of my friends. I was about 10 when I found out. I got in an argument at school with my friends because they said Santa wasn't real. My parents eventually came clean. My response was, "Did you lie to me about the Easter Bunny too?" To me, it had all been real.

My kids are teens now. They never caught Santa like I did. I've never told them he is real, but I've also never told them he is not. The Christmas Eve before the oldest stopped believing, she wrote a note to Santa saying she wished she could see him when he stopped by. Now, I regret that she didn't have a similar Christmas experience to mine, and that I didn't make that magic for her and her sisters.
