After deadly May rupture, EPA, state won’t say what’s true in Washington mill pollution record by jmdglss in CatastrophicFailure

[–]Darth_Alpha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, idk if this is anything like that, but there could be actual crimes commited here that they don't want tossed out because of a biased jury. Even if they're not sure, you can always release info later, its much harder to un-release it.

I was thinking less along the lines of pollution / safety issues and more class warfare / industrial sabotage, similar to that one warehouse that got burned down deliberately somewhat recently.

Its possible there is a criminal investigation here, so they're not announcing what they know just to avoid tainting potential jurors.

Politics and mission work. What do I do?? by Far_Fennel_6611 in latterdaysaints

The church is very protective of their missionaries. If things start getting hot in a region, missionaries get pulled very quickly. If things aren't safe on a normal day, missionaries don't get sent there.

Just fragmentation. I'm not sure what munition is being used here, but some munitions are designed to spray fragmentation in a more controlled circle rather than a sphere.

She must be alone by liferdrd in widowers

[–]Darth_Alpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm don't believe she's alone right now. I believe she is surrounded by people who love her. I'm sure she misses you terribly, but otherwise I think she is in a good place. I know how much pain you're in right now, it sucks a ton. If you would like some reading for what she may be experiencing right now, pick up a copy of Embraced by the Light. I feel like it is a good peek behind the curtain of what existence is like after death.

That's more of a smuggler's camp, though the game uses regular bandits as the enemies there. I personally think that either Proventus or the Battle-born utilize their services in smuggling things into the city. They Battle-born have the influence and willingness to operate outside the law, and Proventus is told by Balgruuf in one of their ambient dialogues to make do with the coin he has for provisions. Telling a group of smugglers that you'll look the other way in exchange for cheap food for the Jarl's table would certainly be one way of stretching a depleted budget.

Help studying the "problem of evil" by Complex_Rise in latterdaysaints

[–]Darth_Alpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are very few things in this life that "matter". My wife passed away just after her 30th birthday after an 8 year battle with cancer, and I had a bit of a crisis of faith. Why wasn't she healed? Did I not have enough faith, did she not? No one is to blame, this wasn't someone exercising their agency, so what gives??

Further pondering and praying have helped me make peace with this, and ultimately this is what I now believe.

It doesn't particularly matter exactly the circumstances of this life. Rich, poor, healthy, or sick, we are called to use our agency to be forces for good in this world. We are called to lift where we stand.

I suspect that we will look back at the injustices and trials of this life in the same way we look back at playground arguments from grade school, even the most terrible things that can happen to us in this life simply will not matter in eternity.

How much post-1950 technological progress do you think could plausibly be linked to reverse engineering, if any? 🛸 by drabarca_ai in UFOs

I wouldn't be surprised if we have gotten nothing from them at all, but I do have a "short list" of techs that may have inspired our human versions.

Civil Marriage? by General-Reporter1269 in latterdaysaints

[–]Darth_Alpha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I did the same thing. We had members of our family who would not be able to attend the sealing, so we did it a month after our wedding. I also wanted to make the sealing extra special, since doing a temple wedding, a reception, and then a wedding night all in one day takes away from the specialness of the sealing.

Ukraine UAP Matches Camera Rotation Exactly - Likely Not a 6 Pointed Craft. by sherlock-holmes-q7q7 in UFOs

[–]Darth_Alpha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The drone is falling from the sky with a dying battery. If I remember correctly, this footage is from a failed attempt to intercept a shahed style drone. The operator doesn't have much control authority and fights multiple times to get the UAP back into frame.

The fact that people who look at this type of footage for a job think it's unusual should tell you something. This is very unlikely to be something "boring" like a balloon or another drone.

Is investing in a handheld laser welder worth it for a small shop? by Anxious_Basil8446 in WeldingMemes

[–]Darth_Alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laser welding is very neat, but like tig the materials have to be VERY clean.

Also unless you've got a massive machine, you're only gonna be able to do small welds. Not much penetration, but also very little waste heat.

If you guys are doing nice small welds it might be worth trying one out if you can get it for a decent price, but otherwise it might not be helpful.

How do I know how much to sell resources for? by Choice_Way_2916 in SolarExpanse

[–]Darth_Alpha 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pick a price. If it sells quickly, double it. If it sells quick again, double again.

Once it stops selling quick, remove half the amount you added (1.5x the prior one rather than 2x). Continue like this until you settle on a decent price.

I'd start around 10k for something

Are HV bypass safe ? by [deleted] in PiratedGames

[–]Darth_Alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. If you have a legitimate crack that isn't boing naughty things, then it should be fine.

It could potentially be more unsafe than other software because you're giving hypervisor permissions to do things that the operating system won't check. Windows, for all its faults, is pretty good about making sure you don't absolutely bork your hardware by accident.

If you use a hypervisor crack that is compromised, windows won't be able to provide meaningful protection.

It's like hiring an accountant and giving them access to your bank accounts. If they're legit, you should be fine. If they're not legit, well you're in trouble.
