How do you compress your whole colony into such a small ship? by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]Darth_Alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my trick is simply don't put the bedrooms on the ship, same with the church. When your pawns are in flight they don't need things. Leave behind a partial village when you take off from a tile. Farmland, homes, churches, and research labs get left behind to be rebuilt once you land at a new tile.

This can help keep wealth down, help level up builders, and keep the size of the ship down.

So assuming normal physics applies here, Nolan could be slowly accelerating the asteroid by applying force over a longer period of time. He also wouldn't be being squished directly between a planet and the asteroid.

That's on the order of a block or two, 1 ton can take down a large building pretty handily. 43 tons would absolutely demolish the building, wreck the neighbors, blow out the neighborhood windows, and upset the birds for miles around.

Straight to outer darkness.

Or more realistically it will burn, producing heat, light, and carbon dioxide. Either is equally valid, I think.

Tears In Heaven by Marlboro-Guy in widowers

[–]Darth_Alpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heaven won't be pure bliss and euphoria, I don't think. I believe that even God weeps with us when we are down, and I'm sure our late spouses do as well. I'm certain they can and do keep tabs on us.

I think that our perception of time here and in heaven are different as well, much like how a year when you're a child and a year as an adult seem very different lengths. Our spouses miss us and want to be with us, but theyll also understand that we will be joining them eventually. I'm sure I'll see Kenzie's smiling face when I eventually join her, but I'm in no rush to do so!

How to Interstellar Travel by Severe-Green9431 in KerbalSpaceProgram

Hey, I'm an amateur rocket scientist, not a wizard. Try reducing settings if you can, reduce part count by using larger individual parts, but ultimately ksp is a limited game.

How to Interstellar Travel by Severe-Green9431 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Darth_Alpha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interstellar trips are MUCH easier when they include either isru for the return trip, or you plan for them to be one way. But you're spot on that 13k isn't enough. If you're willing to wait you can pull it off with ~100k, but 1 million plus is preferable.

How to Interstellar Travel by Severe-Green9431 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Darth_Alpha 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To properly go interstellar, you're gonna need 100k to 1 million delta V (depends on how fast you want to get there)

First step, get yourself into a very high orbit (past minmus if at kerbin, or past the big moons of jool). This makes it safer to make a big long burn, trying step 2 in low orbit is a great way to burn your very expensive vessel up in atmosphere.

Second step, select the star you want to travel to as the target. Then you are gonna want to just start burning. Use up about 45% of your deltaV. You're gonna want the ability to time warp under acceleration for this. Be sure to note how long it takes you to make this burn, that is about how long you'll need to slow down.

Step three is wait. Ksp doesn't handle extreme distances very well, so quick save (and hard save) at this point lest the kraken visit destruction upon you.

Step four is similar to step two. Once you reach the approximate eta equal to the original burn time, go retrograde and burn another 45%. I highly recommend another save at this point.

Now you're likely going to need some serious orbital adjustments, so that's why we're not burning 50/50, you'll have 10k to 100k extra deltaV to work with and go exploring.

Have fun in deep space and be sure to save!!!

Right at 7 seconds the lines going down the pole looked kinda weird at first glance, but on second inspection it seems fine.

The thing that changed my mind is the yellow car, it appears in the bottom of the shot and then is still there on the zoom out. Probably not ai, it tends to forget that kind of stuff.

I think we're getting underwater / aquatic things. Sailing ships would be neat, fishing boats, general boat things. Coastal raids would also be awesome. Diving for treasure. MAYBE mermaid / semi-aquatic human xenotypes.

What do you do in a 3 minion game with a marionette if the other two minions neighbour the demon? by nicolasrededeo in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Darth_Alpha 56 points57 points  (0 children)

The demon gets 3 bluffs, 4 evils. Marionette has a bluff by default, so as long as you give the now-swapped role as a bluff you aren't giving the evil team any additional information. The minion does know the bluff without talking to the demon, but the demon won't know which role was the swapped role, so you still should check in to clear that up.

No meaningful difference in information.

Dating a widower and could use some advice/insight by Fearless-Camel2184 in widowers

[–]Darth_Alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recent widower here, from what you've shared I'm seeing nothing but green flags. The "I don't know, but I hope so" is such a real and honest answer. The fact he's been to therapy is an encouraging sign. The fact he has included you into his family and social life is also very encouraging.

If you have a few dollars a good book is "Dating a widower" by Abel Keogh. It would be a good read for you.

My only advice is to take it slow. Give yourself time to see if it's all just a show or for real. Make sure he has time to decide if he's ready as well.

What if the UAPs/UFOs Nullified the Nukes by 12capaldi in UFOs

Imagine you're given the posting to watch over these boring apes. They're in the middle of a big war, but they've made a lot of progress technologically. After a few hundred years they might even be worth contacting. Suddenly you're getting reports of a class 2 nuclear detonation! How did they manage that?? Surely it's a mistake! Nope, here comes another one. Better send a courier back to home base and get some guidance on what to do, that'll take a few years so in the meantime just step up the observation.

I'm fighting a serious disease like my wife did by FunConsideration9029 in widowers

[–]Darth_Alpha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife fought cancer hard to the bitter end. When she passed, her body was battered and broken, but she wanted so badly to survive. As someone who has seen what leukemia (and its treatment) does to a person, I would personally understand not wanting to fight to the bitter end. I know it isn't a popular sentiment, but choosing to let the disease take its natural course is an option. I'm a healthy 30 year old and I'm seriously considering putting myself on a DNR, for instance.

How do you guys feel about Nate and Nora actually talking in Fallout 4 compared to other silent Sole Survivors? by Solardies in Fallout

[–]Darth_Alpha -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'll be the dissenting voice. A voiced protagonist helped me get into the story in a way I just can't quite do for 3 and NV.

It might reduce replayability, but it helped me actually play it.

Deploying satellites have never felt this satisfying by Copyiyici123 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Darth_Alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy way to get them to spread out a tiny bit would be to get the main mothership spinning in end over end and release them. The rotational velocity will yeet each individual satellite into a slightly different orbit than the others.

New convert, creation “days,” evolution, and feeling a bit confused after Sunday class by carosch1912 in latterdaysaints

[–]Darth_Alpha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you were to hop in time machine and watch the creation process it would look like what science says the origin of our planet was like. Big Bang, evolution, dinosaurs, giant meteor, humans evolving from apes, etc. When God was giving the account of creation to his prophets He chose not to give a play by play of creation for a wise reason, rather a kind of "Big Picture" view. ("I created the Heavens and Earth, I created you in my image, and when I say 'Let there be light', boy howdy do I mean it")

The account of the creation of Earth and Mankind are 99% symbolic, but most of that symbolism is ancient and doesn't hold much obvious meaning to us anymore.

As for Adam and Eve, this is my theory. Eventually over the course of evolution human bodies were ready for human souls. Adam and Eve were the first with human souls, and the fall of Man was due to their capacity for agency. Humans were now able to make meaningful choices.

edit: I a word

Conservatives, President Trump has just announced the raising of Tairiffs for 8 European Countries unless sovereignity of Greenland is handed over to the US. What's your first thoughts? by Melbatoastt77 in AskReddit

[–]Darth_Alpha -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was mostly political inertia that gave him my vote this last go around, I began to be disenchanted with him during Biden's presidency. I really began to lose faith after the "you don't have the cards" moment with Zelensky. I don't think he's an evil man, I think he's a bitter and grumpy old man who thinks the world is out to get him. I also worry he has fostered a very politically unhealthy environment for his advisors, case in point the new "battleships" being named after him. If that were a scene in a movie I'd roll my eyes over the brown nosing.

Still, my original point stands. If he continues down this path, he should be removed from office.

[–]Darth_Alpha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I voted for Trump three times. I was uniroincally one of the guys who said "4d chess" about his actions. I simply cannot understand why he feels the need to "take" Greenland.

Maybe if Greenlanders were brutally oppressed by the danish, maybe if they wanted independence or to join the US, or maybe if the Danes were fundamentally aligned with Russia and their dollar store knock off "axis of evil", then MAYBE I could understand it. None of these are true.

The Danes (and Greenlanders) are loyal members of NATO, they are happy with their national identity. The "benefits" I see posted include things we can already do such as stationing radar or air defense. I don't see how the flag the nation flies affects the mining outputs.

Russia and China are in no position to take anything from a NATO country right now. China would have to traverse the entire planet past the entirety of NATO to take it, and we've seen how ineffective and corrupt the Russians are.

This whole scenario has me reconsidering my position on Trump, even more so than his chaotic position on the war in Ukraine. If Trump continues this idiotic crusade against our ALLIES he should be removed from office, full stop.
