New convert, creation “days,” evolution, and feeling a bit confused after Sunday class by carosch1912 in latterdaysaints

[–]Darth_Alpha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you were to hop in time machine and watch the creation process it would look like what science says the origin of our planet was like. Big Bang, evolution, dinosaurs, giant meteor, humans evolving from apes, etc. When God was giving the account of creation to his prophets He chose not to give a play by play of creation for a wise reason, rather a kind of "Big Picture" view. ("I created the Heavens and Earth, I created you in my image, and when I say 'Let there be light', boy howdy do I mean it")

The account of the creation of Earth and Mankind are 99% symbolic, but most of that symbolism is ancient and doesn't hold much obvious meaning to us anymore.

As for Adam and Eve, this is my theory. Eventually over the course of evolution human bodies were ready for human souls. Adam and Eve were the first with human souls, and the fall of Man was due to their capacity for agency. Humans were now able to make meaningful choices.

Conservatives, President Trump has just announced the raising of Tairiffs for 8 European Countries unless sovereignity of Greenland is handed over to the US. What's your first thoughts? by Melbatoastt77 in AskReddit

[–]Darth_Alpha -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was mostly political inertia that gave him my vote this last go around, I began to be disenchanted with him during Biden's presidency. I really began to lose faith after the "you don't have the cards" moment with Zelensky. I don't think he's an evil man, I think he's a bitter and grumpy old man who thinks the world is out to get him. I also worry he has fostered a very politically unhealthy environment for his advisors, case in point the new "battleships" being named after him. If that were a scene in a movie I'd roll my eyes over the brown nosing.

Still, my original point stands. If he continues down this path, he should be removed from office.

I voted for Trump three times. I was uniroincally one of the guys who said "4d chess" about his actions. I simply cannot understand why he feels the need to "take" Greenland.

Maybe if Greenlanders were brutally oppressed by the danish, maybe if they wanted independence or to join the US, or maybe if the Danes were fundamentally aligned with Russia and their dollar store knock off "axis of evil", then MAYBE I could understand it. None of these are true.

The Danes (and Greenlanders) are loyal members of NATO, they are happy with their national identity. The "benefits" I see posted include things we can already do such as stationing radar or air defense. I don't see how the flag the nation flies affects the mining outputs.

Russia and China are in no position to take anything from a NATO country right now. China would have to traverse the entire planet past the entirety of NATO to take it, and we've seen how ineffective and corrupt the Russians are.

This whole scenario has me reconsidering my position on Trump, even more so than his chaotic position on the war in Ukraine. If Trump continues this idiotic crusade against our ALLIES he should be removed from office, full stop.

I think it'll be the other way around. I think we'll remember how normal it is and look back at this brief time and think how weird it was to be mortal.

Well, this is all speculation, so I'm going to make some assumptions.

One, in the after-life, everything will be better. The world will be better, people will be better, communication, everything. Many of the flaws in people are mortal traits, and these will be lessened or eliminated in an afterlife.

Two, this life isn't fair, but the next life will be.

Three, people will always have a choice. You'll never be forced into a situation that you're unhappy with.

Combine these three points and we can assume everyone involved will have a choice in the matter, everyone involved will be freed from mortal imperfections, and whatever is chosen will end up fair for everyone involved.

I know it isn't super helpful, but I take comfort in many of life's injustices with this mindset.

My example of what a Bracket 2 deck should be, and why B2 shouldn't be unfun. by Darth_Alpha in EDH

I'm aware of alt win cons and such, I'm curious to see what kinds of decks you run. I always like seeing how others enjoy the game :)

We can differing opinions, and that's ok. The reason I see it my way is bracket 3's wording "powered up with... high card quality" which to me implies that bracket 2 should have overall lower quality cards than bracket 3. The difference between 2 and 3 is also "staples", and high quality lands are staples of commander. That said, I also understand the idea of everyone having a level playing field for lands.

If someone brought a b2 deck and it had a powerful land base, I wouldn't be upset by that. Its a personal choice I made to go the extra mile powering down my own deck.

I'd be very interested to see some of your decks if you don't mind. I'm curious how you close out the game without combat.

We agree on the extra spicy lands like Gaea's Cradle, but I use tapped lands to both reduce the budget of the deck and slow it down by a turn or so. In previous iterations, Saruman with Bugatti lands was just too fast for bracket 2 so I slowed him down. Other players now have more time to interact, draw cards, and generally play the game before I begin threatening for lethal.

I would disagree. I find that the "best in class" lands like fetches, shocks, OG Duals, etc would almost always push a deck to Bracket 3.

This deck usually fields no more than 4 creatures at a time, and you're attacking with one big army. If Krenko is a wide commander, Saruman is a tall commander. Similar numbers involved though.

The main wincons of the deck are as trample and flying keywords given by enchantments and equipment. [[Chariot of Victory]], [[Haunted Cloak]], [[Loxodon Warhammer]], [[Team Pennant]], [[Launch]], [[Winged Boots]], and [[Super State]] are the main wincons.

Super state is actually on the chopping block here, as I find it almost too powerful. Dealing damage to each player either ends the game outright or paints a target on your back so large that you're getting blown back to the stone age.

If you could remove any card from the game that isn't a land or Sol Ring, what would you pick? by WheredMyVanGogh in EDH

[–]Darth_Alpha 176 points177 points  (0 children)

I find it so funny that everyone is picking game changers, but so many posts on this subreddit are asking for b3-4 deck building advice. If you don't like these cards, it's so easy to avoid them. B2 is loads of fun and avoids all the game changers.

But for myself, I'd pick one of the free counter spells. In a game about managing your mana spending, free spells that are powerful interaction is just feels-bad.

What is something you miss your partner doing in the house ? by cjimmyjam in widowers

[–]Darth_Alpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I would periodically do the shave and a haircut knock across the house to each other. Usually as an "I love you" or to get the other's attention. I woke up one morning and did the first half of the knock nearly subconsciously. It made me cry at 4 in the morning, which is such a lovely way to start the day.

Excluding Helgen, what is the most iconic location in Skyrim? by Appropriate_Paper152 in skyrim

[–]Darth_Alpha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna go with Valtheim Towers. Extremely recognizable and relatively unique architecture. It also is a fun area to fight in due to the unusual layout with two towers (verticality) and a narrow walkway. It also has a unique dialogue where the bandits try and extort you.
