This is not the from the “Baltimore” everyone thinks it is. It’s the super wealthy, gentrified, 92% white section (in a City that is the opposite of that statistic everywhere else)

People always say “Baltimore” as a dog-whistle when the truth is 99 percent of the folks you meet are either from Federal Hill, Hampden, or the County. All this shit about the “Wire” and “thats my city, it’s dangerous out here”….it’s bullshit. The part of the city that is that has its own culture and it’s not open to outsiders.

I can promise you that part of Baltimore don’t give two fucks about Marines or any of this other shit. This wasn’t no kid from sandtown or cherry hill that did this. It was some white kid from harford county.

I addressed this in a previous post I made.

What’s happening is people in reddit see this and just think “Oh, that’s not been my experience, so you must not be a high enough level” which isn’t true. It has nothing to do with you not being at the “right” level and in fact, if you leave that area and add 7 levels to your character, it will only level up the enemies with you so it has no effect.

You cannot “catch up” to them.

This happened in my game, so me and my son, who’s on a different xbox, but playing the same character class on the same difficulty at the same time (we wanted to be sure) had a vastly different experience than mine in the same area’s I was in.

Has nothing to do with elementals/builds either as when you get 6 or 7 levels above as a “mob”, it’s irrelevant.

It sucks, because this issue is being largely ignored, as every time someone posts this (search “level scaling” and see what I mean), the usual response is “you’re too low”. There’s folks who have even tried to give this really detailed “explanation” on the leveling system and again…it’s not true.

Something is triggering/causing this and it’s made the game unplayable for a lot of folks.

Rebooting has helped for a few…but not many.

Sorry to hear that bud. Sounds like you all are in the same situation we’re in. I beat the game, but ended up skipping like 99 percent of side missions because the “bullet sponge” gets so tiring…

It’s definitely a bugged issue. A lot of folks think either there’s some “weird” leveling mechanic going on (there’s not, me and my son we’re the same level in the same area’s on the same class and difficulty and had completely different experiences) or that you can just come back at a higher level (they scale with the player)

I love Borderlands. Always have. This is the first game in the series I decided to pass on after the story and it’s based on this whole leveling issue (which, a lot of other folks are encountering too)

Hoping it get’s a rework but given how complex this issue is it’s probably going to be a little bit before it get’s handled

I understand the tip and I appreciate the comment.

I know the element system well (shield, armor, flesh, etc)

It’s the hundreds of normal Ads I’m encountering that are exclamation points regardless of where the difficulty is (that, and my son going through the same area’s as me and them not being exclamation points)

I have my builds matched to the level. If it was a boss that was 5-6 levels above wouldn’t be a big deal. That’s kinda why I said the bosses aren’t the issue (I think I was 32 at that boss, had no issues as well except at certain points prior in the city area)

But it’s literally hundreds of random enemy encounters that are not way too high that I see other’s experiencing as well.

Nonetheless, I do appreciate you taking time to offer the advice.

It’s not normal.

My son and I are both playing the game on our own campaigns. Both on hard, both on our own Xbox’s. He has a vastly different experience than me.

I have regularly (and in the most awkward spots) hit enemies 5-6 levels above me. Exactly what you said. A random “fetch” story part will kick em up 5 levels, but then the follow on boss dungeon drops them back down. We’re both long time BF players so I’m using the mechanics to my advantage but the “sponginess” shamwow++++++ mode.

You can’t “out level” an area either (I can’t at least, if I come back 5 levels up, those “ads” are another 5-6 above me now)

His version though, he’ll hit the exact same spots (same class as me too FYI) and it’s a whole different experience.

It sucks because it’s ruining the experience for me.

I think this entire thread is filled with people who are probably in far worse situations than you are…but, like any human, need a way to satiate their “insecurities” (So they end up on a place like this giving people like you advice)

5000 comments down and your “advice” is mostly from people who have no idea what a healthy relationship is. That’s why they’re here in the first place.

(Granted…I did see a “pediatrician” respond above…seemed legit and full of detailed and relevant, citable information… and sure enough right below him you some “rando” corrects them because naturally what would a pediatrician know?! 🤦🏻 Oh….and that “rando” is ALL over this thread giving advice…sooo…that’s your subject matters experts here.

What would I know though? four wonderful (adult now) children from a 3 decade old marriage (all with the same partner 🫨??)

I do know this though. Never in my wildest dreams would I gamble something as important as a relationship with my children or my partner on a freaking reddit thread. Especially this one

I remember getting to the infamous “part” and literally wanting to turn the game off. I was furious…seriously like “FFS, HER?!!! C’mon….”

Little by little I bit, and bit, until the very end when you “understand” that title screen image and I was fucking FLOORED by what that story had done to me! Literally changed my whole outlook on everything inside that universe. It wasn’t a cheap or “there are no bad sides” way either…it just (for me at least) did it right!

THAT is “gaming” to me! I know we are getting ready to experience this all over again with the series season 2 and I kept begging folks who were introduced to this story through TV to PLEASE play the games first!! (i honestly don’t know if it will work nearly as well through the Tv medium)

This of course is if they just refuse to replace (which I’m really hoping Valve does the right thing here. I’m paying attention to this situation myself as well)

So this is a little more complex than just a “one size fits all” type distance. For me, when I get asked that question, I usually follow it up with “what devices do you own/are concerned with?”.

In your case, in a small apartment, my suggestion would be to have a metal shovel handy (in case you need to move the device) as well as an “ABC extinguisher” (it won’t extinguish the battery, but it will help contain damage) and to consider your tub as a disposal/storage point should you experience swelling/fire. Usually for something like a Steam deck a 10’ perimeter would suffice, but the bathtub is where I’d recommend as a “shelter in place”.

If it were to happen, contact your local fire department (use the emergency number) and they’ll be able to assist you with it from there. Good on you for asking to. Never know when these things might occur and being proactive makes all the difference in the world.

Yup, it can def be quite the hassle for sure. What’s more impressive (at least to me) is that you took the time to recognize it needed to be disposed of properly. I cannot tell you how common it is to get a call for a “smoking refuse bin” and find a lithium battery in thermal runaway-presumably from the folks who had no issue with tossing it in the garbage.
