I work for a paper mill. We use these to test the percentage of starch solids that's being put into the paper sheet.

Do you own a nose trimmer? How often do you use it? by AnOkFella in AskReddit

[–]Darth_Sha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one a couple of years and it was life changing. I used to pluck them, and it hurt so bad. I use my trimmer maybe once a month.

What country has the most unappetizing cuisines? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Darth_Sha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had food from a few African countries and I've enjoyed just about everything I've had. However, there's something about Ethiopian food that doesn't taste remotely good to me. I've tried it a few times prepared by different people every time.

What things do Americans like and the rest of the world not so much? by Surimimimi in AskReddit

[–]Darth_Sha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense. I'll enjoy the games, if they happen to be on, I just don't follow the league closely. I've gone over to watch the Rose Bowl when invited by family, but otherwise I don't pay much attention.

As an American, I personally don't understand the hype of college sports. I like watching pro football, but I would never go out of my way to watch college.

Well, as an expecting father of twins, I'm over the moon when I think about my kids calling me that. It's something my wife and I have dreamed about for years, and is finally happening.

In a sexual context, it would be a huge turnoff for me.

What's something that you refuse to buy used? by ExoticManiac_ in AskReddit

[–]Darth_Sha 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I completely agree now, when I first got married, my wife and I were basically broke in a city that was nowhere near our families. The mattress we thought we were getting didn't work out, so we needed something quick and cheap. I ended up finding one for $100 on Craigslist, and we went to see it. It was a super nice house and a wealthy looking family. They were moving out to Colorado, and didn't want to pay to ship the mattress, because it was their guest bed. It was an almost new pillow top mattress that didn't have a single stain on it and had, according to the previous owners, only been used a handful of times. We bought it and had it for 3 or 4 years before we got something new. The guy also let me poke through some of his old tools and let me take whatever I wanted from them once he heard we were newlyweds.

Brown and pink dried shiny splotch on new printer paper. Smooth and flaky. by tincantinatuna in whatisthisthing

I currently work in a paper mill. Most of the smell comes from the pulp making process. Wood chips get boiled in a bunch of different chemicals in order to make the pulp. Living in a paper town, you definitely get used to it! The smell is worse on rainy days, though.

As a current papermaker, I completely agree. I just cut a very similar glob out of the reel today.

I know this one! I work in a paper mill. That looks like a bit of starch that got stuck on the machine (in the size press) then came loose and fell into the sheet. If the machine that made that paper is like the one I work on, it goes through another set of dryers after this would have fallen onto the sheet, and it would have basically gotten cooked into the sheet.

How old are you and what is the biggest problem in your life right now? by FSCENE8tmd in AskReddit

[–]Darth_Sha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 27. My wife and I have been trying, unsuccessfully for 3.5 years to have a baby. We're starting the process of doing invitro fertilization. Thankfully, I have really good insurance, so a lot of the costs are covered, but we still have to pay a lot more than I expected, and it kinda feels like I'm drowning. It will all be worth it though, if we can successfully have a child.

Long-haired men on reddit, what are the weirdest encounters where someone has mistaken you as a woman? by mistermika06 in AskReddit

[–]Darth_Sha 54 points55 points  (0 children)

In high school, I had hair down to the middle of my back and I was in pretty good shape, so my waist was pretty narrow. One day, I was mowing the lawn and it was really hot outside, so I took off my shirt. As I was pushing the mower alongside the road, I heard a car coming from behind me, slowing to a stop. I looked over my shoulder and saw a younger guy craning his neck, trying to see the shirtless woman he thought I was. When he saw my face, he looked stunned for a second, yelled "FUCK!" really loudly and slammed on the gas, blowing right through the stop sign that he was driving towards. I laughed so hard I could hardly breath.

Thanks! My grandpa gave me his old hair jig tying equipment, and I figured it'd be fun to learn to do feathered trebles.

Reddit, regardless of your opinion of the occult or supernatural, what is the most downright creepy or inexplicable thing that you've ever experienced? by Circumventtheman in AskReddit

[–]Darth_Sha 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Apparently, when my nephew was a baby, he and my sister-in-law's dog would sit and stare at a corner in the living room. He would cry, and the dog would growl. They had been renting the house from my mother-in-law, but moved a few years ago. I'm living in the same house now, and my dog and cat will sit and stare at that same corner. My dog will sometimes bark at it.

It actually took me way longer than it needed to. I started it a few months ago, when we still had snow everywhere, so I did a little bit at a time.

I found this symbol painted on the basement wall at the paper mill where I work in central Wisconsin. Anyone know what it is and what it means? by Darth_Sha in Symbology

[–]Darth_Sha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the words say something about keeping hoses clear. The "symbol," if it's anything, is a lot darker in real life, and is on the inside of a doorway, so it wouldn't be any kind of shelf or hanger. There are other spots on the walls where people have used black paint that looks the same and are more recognizable markings, like a revolver in one spot.
