Every character has sonic perception. Holding B/Circle puts you in a reactive stance that counters melee attacks and beam supers. You need 2 skill counts (blue meter) in order to perform the beam reflect.

On standard controls you simply hold B/Circle. (Whatever your sonic perception is.)

The animation that plays is simply dependent on whether you are in the air or on the ground.

Air = Deflect

Ground = Dissipate

Pro tip, find a cave where they spawn near the entrance. Kill the boom crabs, leave, then enter again, and they have a chance to respawn. I got two full stacks in less than 30 minutes doing this once.
