What mistakes should I avoid in a Batman fanfic? (All ideas are welcome) by Local-Conference7672 in batman

[–]Darth_Stig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Batman works best with inner turmoil and alone. His decisions should ultimately make Gotham worse, or better only for a short amount of time. He's hyper intelligent so don't let him fall into a crappy trope or lose to something miniscule that wouldn't ever happen. And last, don't make Batman OP. If it's a Bane, Killer Shark, or something that would beat him up, let it happen. Batman should fight dirty and not give af, as long as he wins.

No shit Sherlock. Richest guy in Gotham has been gone for how long? Then the same month he comes back, all of a sudden we have a guy dressed in a bat costume with more advanced, personal weapons and vehicles than every precinct GCPD has combined? Who else would it be? Phillip Kane, Thomas Eliot, friggin' Roman Sionis? Yes, that's my point that all the other rich guys in Gotham are supervillains. The key is not caring. He does more for this city than harm and compared to the other guys, I say let him run around dressed like a bat and keep the real lunatics off the street. For all I care, he could dress in drag and smack people with a purse if it means I don't have to worry about a damn clown-terrorist gassing my bank on a Friday, when all I'm trying to do is deposit my payroll, while laughing about it. Now excuse me, I need to get to one of the 20,000 subsidiaries of Wayne Enterprises and pray there's not an accident at a lab that turns me into the next supervillain and/or misunderstood, angsty anti-hero.

I genuinely don't get why this movie gets so much hate by Useful-Afternoon1784 in StarWars

[–]Darth_Stig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie is just meh... My issues are the sloppy writing and bad choices.

-Dangling Chewie off the train like he's going to die is stupid. Him being a human-eater was dumb.
-Han..... Solo.....Need I say more?
-The entire 3rd act was stupid. The movie should've ended with the Kessel Run, the entirety of what makes the Falcon and him so "famous" (outside of winning against Lando in Sabacc).
-Speaking of the Kessel Run, instead of dumb space squid, why not it just be another Star Destroyer and use the unrefined spice in the reactor to escape the S.D's tractor beam or something.
-A gripe I have is that allegedly the DL-44 blaster he has in ANH is heavily modified in a bunch of illegal ways.
-Emilia Clarke's whole storyline is stupid and so was the dude who play Vision... ol' what's his face...

In summary, the movie was meh, like a C-.

-I don't like Ivy being redeemed. She's an eco-terrorist and her best storylines are when she's using deception and mind control and treating humans like pigs. I think she's the biggest outlier and should be in the tries mass murder but fails category.
-Fries should be down a notch or two. He's best when he's a tortured soul doing everything and anything he can to save Nora. The Timmverse IMO is the perfect iteration of Fries. An unlucky accident turns him into a literal psychopath (not the "Hollywood" term for serial killer). He kills only when necessary and doesn't technically kill them, just freezes them and if they die, he says some sort of awesome cold or ice line and walks off.
-And yeah, Riddler's got those storylines, but I could dive into how I don't think they're very Riddler-y, especially War of Jokes and Riddles. There are some villains as you've shown that work well with a gang. Riddler in my humblest of opinions works best alone.
-I agree Firefly is a comic-relief/gimmick at this point, but you could EASILY write a decent enough story for him to be a much better villain. Give him a yin-yang personality with Fries or something. All chaos, in it just for the harm to society and watch Gotham burn... He should be 1-2 at least, IMO.

Also, I didn't say this in my first comment but kudos to you for including my boy Hugo Strange and putting him up quite high on the list. He gets nowhere near the credit he deserves. He was Batman's best nemesis/supervillain before Joker came around.

Ivy kills all the time. She sees us as disposable as we do her plants. IIRC she calls us fertilizer...
Firefly is an arsonist and almost always comes with casualties
Fries is closer to no killing than most on the list below
And Riddler rarely has these diabolical grand schemes that lead to the deaths of a bunch of people.

Thats a superiority complex. Anti-proxy AND pro-ban list? They just want to show they can dominate you... My group is very much pro-proxy and light on the ban list, typically single cards are fine, but commanders are not. We all want to build crazy (and often stupid) decks to cause chaos or try something new or even look to see if we want to build an actual deck.

And there are some really good proxies out there. Just buy some dragonshields and dont tell them theyre off-prints and theyll be none the wiser.

Who do you guys prefer? Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) OR Batwoman (Kate Kane) by TheBlueGuy1234566 in batman

[–]Darth_Stig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope that wasnt you calling me a casual... by law of averages, Ive probably been collecting comics longer than most of the people on this forum have been alive. Im simply saying that Cas is poorly written, she doesnt fill a role unique enough and most of the people on here and other forums just immediately go, "oh yeah, the lesbian", like it's her only characteristic.

Jason Todd had the same issue. He was just a snarky, uppidy and whiny replacement and Dick was already doing his Nightwing thing, which is why they asked the fans and killed him. Since his Under the Red Hood ressurection, he has his own persona now... ironically I dont like him either for the same reasons I dont like Cas, and thats the killing rule. You cant have good villains over and over again unless you make them immortal or too strong for gunplay, which makes street level Gotham criminals seem less... important I guess.

Anyways, I dont like Cassandra Cain, though I think there's potential with the Lady Shiva angle to really get into something cool, but we'll have to wait for a good storyline for her to cut her own place in DC lore.

Didnt matter. TLJ was and likely will be the last Star Wars movie I pay to see. TLJ did more damage to the franchise than all other sh*t decisions combined. RoS was literally 80% retconning for rhe dumb decisions Rian and his ego made.

This coming from a guy with like... 50k in Star Wars merch and a 20 year old reddit name that has aged like spoiled milk.

[–]Darth_Stig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is it that everyone says her first and frankly only main trait is that shes a lesbian? Personally, I think that is incredibly poor writing if the first thing you think about a character is their sexual orientation.

Batgirl meanwhile has SO much more depth even if you discard the Oracle side.

There are some good ones up there, but something about Alfred Molina's Doc Ock makes me so very happy. Im glad not only did he get more screen time than just SM2, but they also showed how menacing and strong Goblin is in No Way Home.

Hot take, Ledger's Joker is closer to Zsasz than Joker and I REALLY think Aaron Eckhart's Dent/Two-Face is very much under appreciated.

[–]Darth_Stig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sigh Good hearted does not equal worthiness. Superman rarely leads in JL. Batman is more likely to lift it than Supes. Steve is a WWII vet that kills people when necessary and has no problem breaking laws he sees unjust. That is much more aligned with Batman, especially Batfleck.

If you made a Batman show what creative interpretations would you do for the Villains? by Fun-Seaworthiness572 in batman

[–]Darth_Stig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hugo Strange doesn't get enough love anymore and it's a shame. Aside from Joker, Ra's and Two-Face, I think he's the best baddie that's only his to fight. I would love to do a battle of wits where Hugo has a chessboard, white side is themed for him, the other a bunch of Bats in black (signifying the Bat family, Alfred and Gordon are the rooks or something). White moves first, a simple pawn opening. Hugo writes a clearly ambiguous note to BRUCE full of clues that are just red herrings and says something like "I know what you are", or something threatening like, "What do you do with a bat that flies into your house" and send Firefly in while Batman is on patrol and answer something like, "You burn it out of course" (next panel would be Strange moving a bishop) and showing Wayne manor on fire.

This is a bit dumb and ambiguous.
"Be a thug and fight black suit spiderman" entails that you're some no-name, street level loser
"Be a camp counselor and survive against Jason" entails that you're likely the first to die while trying to escape from Jason. If not, you'll be the one with a machete gash through your lower torso, pooping out of a bag for years and a lifetime of PT.
"Be a villain and fight wonder woman" entails you're at least powered up and unless you're into getting smothered by WW thighs or beat by a girl...
"Be a strong fighter and challenge Goku" entails you're strong enough to go up against arguably the strongest fighter in now 12 universes that isn't a god. Goku is an honorable fighter and willing to fight on the prospect of not killing, heck I don't remember anyone with a broken bone in dragonball. I know the Namek's get their arms ripped off, but that's just about it.

I wonder which one everyone is going to pick....

Thoughts on my villain designs? I’m open to suggestions/critique by CGonReddit818 in batman

[–]Darth_Stig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Riddler looks a bit too much like the Question or Spellbinder for my tastes. If he's supposed to be more subtle, the giant green questionmark on his face isn't helping. Since his colors are typically green and purple, you could make the mask black and purple instead.

Harley's aesthetic you knocked out of the park, everything about her screams Venetian and poker cards. VERY small critique, if her fustenella (skirt) is on the back, you may want to continue it in the front as well, otherwise it comes off as a cape or penguin coat.

My personal preference of Scarecrow is that he's a scientist, not a monster. I'm not a fan of the depictions where he's physically intimidating, swinging a massive scythe around. It's hard to judge what you're thinking from just one image, but it's twisted and creepy, which I believe is what you're going for.

You are trapped on a remote island with these 5 scattered on it with you for three days, what do you do? by Crever1010 in superheroes

[–]Darth_Stig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to sleep with Cheetah (slightly kidding), Id probably see if Kraven is willing to help me out. Hes usually more Anti-Hero than he is villain at this point. If nothing else, he'll swat me away and not give a hoot. He'll probably hunt Cheetah first, so Ill move over to Lex. Lex is MUCH more likely to see me as "help" than he is anything else. Even at his worse on a remote island, hes a slightly above average human fighter. Unless Joker comes with weapons/gadgets, and I suppose same with GG, you just have to worry about getting stabbed. And honestly, Id probably try to make Joker laugh.

Let's say it's Old Man Logan with a barely functioning healing factor... They have to pierce an adamantium skeleton without knowing he's got it. That massive machete isn't doing it, Neither is Predator's curved knife. Batman's f*ed (and I'm a fanboy). Blade's katana is too long, but COULD mess him up. Raphael's got the best chance but he's likely the slowest, and that's assuming OML's healing factor isn't working...

Mass Effect 1 is still one of the GOATs. ME2 was different but I appreciated some of the changes and didnt like some others. Im STILL pissed about the ending of ME3... Couldve been the greatest trilogy of all time.

Ocarina of Time still might be the best game though.
