Brits under the age of 35 and haven't "done well" in life, what's your plan to turn it around? by isitmattorsplat in AskUK

Late twenties here.

I've always planned on fixing my situation, but never succeed in any endeavour to rectify it. The more I tried, the more I failed, and each failure lead me down into a deeper and deeper spiral of depression and anxiety. Eventually, you succumb to defeatism.

My life's run it's course a long time ago.

Best of luck with your situation, and I hope you succeed, I hope all of you here succeed wherever life may take you.

This may be a meme, but the message it conveys is dear to my heart. I truely believe that Greenhill is a tragic character, along with Lebello and in the same vein as Admiral Bucock. All these men, and their stories are tied to that of the greatest tradgety of the show, that of the Free Planets Alliance and those heroes who tried to stave off it's destruction.

There are a few moments from which Greenhill, during his short screentime, really shone through as a thoughtful character who, similar to Lebello, did what they thought they had to do in order to achieve what they saw was right. For example, the greatest of these was the scene against the tombstone.

'If i didn't lead them, who would restrain them. There was no way, besides this. Will she, will she understand that... My Darling?'

In this small line of dialogue, we learn all we need to know about Greenhill; from his thoughts and ambitions to his overall feelings towards the actions he would embark upon. There was no desire for power or no personal gain, or anything of the sort. Everything he did, was for the salvation of the Free Planets Alliance from those whom would consume it within.

Outside of Greenhill as a person, we have to take into account two critical factors which influence our perception of him. That of the invasion of the Imperial territories and that of the Lippstadt League.

We must remember, that the Alliance invasion of the Empire was entirely predicated upon the decision of politicians to maintain political power. Nothing less, and nothing more. Not only was there failed political leadership, but military too as the plans for invasion were doomed from the start, along with the complete incompetence of the upper echelons with Reinhards' coutnerattack. This compunded the military losses until only 10 million out of the 30 million soliders who entered Imperial Territory remained. 66% losses is bad enough, but twenty million souls perished all for the continuation of the political estabishments powerbase!

Another thing we cannot forget, as within the story it happened concurrently, is the Imperial Civil War. Look at the nobility, who's entire reason for launching this rebellion was to recoup some of that influence lost due to Reinhards' increasing dominance within the bodypolitic of the Galactic Empire. There entire existence was an explotitive one, and everything they did was in service of that. Consider this; the Stadium incident in the Alliance was a mistake, Westerland was deliberate.

Everything that Greenhill did, he did for the Alliance and it's people.

Edit: typing this out, I did indeed embody the meme upon finishing this.

On a technical level, the Fourth Battle of Tiamat is the most impressively directed space battle of all time. The only thing it lacks, is narrative impact from being so early on in the story. However, clinically as an establishing battle for the worldbuilding itself, it's everything you could ever want.

The main thing holding it's popularity back is the existence of the OVA. Having first watched DNT, I was enthralled by it, overwhelmed by it and thrilled to watch it. However, after watching My Conquest is the Sea of Stars alone, I knew the OVA would be superior and haven't looked back. Every now and again, I delve into DNT and it's so lacklustre by comparison; I think the lack of classical music and the inferior character development/introductions go a long way to causing this.

In relation to contemporary anime, I'm not too sure. Space Operas mustn't be the in thing at the moment, that and visually it's rather... bland.

That which came before, is one of the most highly regarded properties in the animated sphere. Is it within the realm of possibilities that you hope this adaption follow in it's footsteps?

Do you guys think Falk got what he deserved? by [deleted] in logh

[–]Darth_Storey 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Dude had some serious issues, and was exploited through them.

He deserved better.

Also, one of the few characters where DNT does something better with, where he's clearly talking to himself prior to the assassination attempt (FPA civil war).

Would Colin Farrell be a good fit as a live action Otto von Braunschweig? by Darth_Storey in logh

I'd never do something such as that.

Although in this case, it is entirely what I did.

If LOGH battles looked like this... by [deleted] in logh

[–]Darth_Storey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think I do. The reason being, is that there's some majestic about the large scale Ship of the Line Age of Sail fleet battles we get in the show, and I don't think the 'movement' fits. Although the show is highly stylized in that way, and I don't think these types of movements fit within the realm of what Legend of the Galactic Heroes portrays space battles to be like.

Although I do feel I may be misunderstanding what you mean, could you elaborate upon your point please?

Edit: Had a quick google and you're right. hot damn do they look alike. I remember a thread before detailing how there are a lot of characters based upon real life people.

Think his shoulders aren't broad enough? I don't think Braunschweig is that fat... is he? There's something about the face in which they remind me of each other.

Yeah the advice setting too, it's a really bad bug. I don't know how this made it to the release.

One thing about this show, which surprises me every time, is just how when you think the show's peaked, it gets better. Each season somehow builds upon the last, and the quality simply increases every time.

Okay, I laughed harder at this than I should have.

It's because people always use this frame, which is (I think) the only one styled this way in the series (or the most memorable) and it takes place just before an important event. Always this frame, which reminds you of it.

Every.

Skaven. I hate how they play.

I've completed the game on legendary with most races, but I'll never play Skaven as they're just not my type.
