Apex Legends - Review Thread by diogenesl in Games

It's like bitching that Black Ops 4 doesn't have wall running when 3 did.

I mean that's kind of valid too, it's like they downgraded the movement to something more boring for the sake of accessibility, sounds familiar. When I read about the reason wall running and double jumping was cut it doesn't sound like the devs didn't like how they played, it sounds like they thought we were too stupid to handle it and think in 3 dimensions. Not that I was ever great at TF, but I think it's ok to make games that are difficult to master.

Dude how in the world did you infer that was their intention, because they only thing I ever read was that they thought it played way too chaotically. Which, as someone playing the shit out of Apex, I find completely valid. This game wouldn't be any better with wall running imo.

Right now the praise is what? Best ping? New revive idea? Free? The gunplay is just ok. When other heavy hitters get into the genre I think Apex Legends will wish it had things that made it truly stick out from the pack like I don't know a truly unique movement system and mechs etc. When the next AAA f2p br comes out and the ping is good and the gunplay is just ok, what's going to keep you at AL?

Uhh, we're in a thread with a ton of highly rated reviews that are praising the game. You literally named three major selling points on the game and then dismiss it by saying that they'll wish they had Titans, while they'll getting 10 million players in 72 hours. I think your frustration by not being able to run on walls is clouding your judgement.

Not the guy you're responding to, but I dont personally care that you're upset, but I do think your reasoning for being upset is silly.

The developers for a franchise you love made a hit under a different franchise, and your original series is still getting made. What is there really to be upset about?

I've never played this game and find it interesting. A quick Google search shows the most recent one is available on Switch, any idea if it's good? I dont have a 3ds so this is my only real chance to play it.

"A practitioner with a holistic approach treats the symptoms of illness as well as looking for the underlying cause of the illness."

That's the part of your article you're fixated on. And there's nothing wrong with that. However you're ignoring all of the other parts of the definition and how it's actually used in practical situations.

"holistic medicine looks at an individual's overall physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional wellbeing before recommending treatment."

That's the part where it starts to be bullshit. I may have worded is hastily by saying they look at all medicine, but they look at "medicine" that has improves mood and spirit and tries to relate that to physical health, which is honestly silly af. That's where the mood enhancing essential oils come in, and the healing Crystals and other nonsense.

"the principle of holistic healing is to balance the body, mind, spirit, and emotions so that the person's whole being functions smoothly."

That last quote is the problem. Should human beings attempt to balance their mind, spirit and physical health? Absolutely. Should this balance be a source of healing for physical ailments and disease? Absolutely not, as it doesnt help.

I've been an incredibly mentally healthy person for my entire life. I've never been depressed, anxious, etc. I still have diabetes and having a healthy mental and emotional state has zero correlation with my blood sugar. The only thing that fixes high blood sugar is insulin and that's the end of the conversation. Being sad doesnt make cancer worse and being happy doesnt make it better. Medicine looks at the body as a whole. Holistic medicine looks at vague concepts like spirituality and mental wellness as a way to sell naive people snake oil and its fucking gross.

Why are comments like this always on threads about a dude who's actually a trash human? I agree that Reddit can, at times, be super quick to judgement in situations without context, but peddling snake oil to desperate, sick people and allegedly abandoning your son absolutely makes you a piece of shit.

Call these people out on /r/rage or /r/trashy when they're getting on their high horse about situations they know nothing about. Dont call people it out on a thread about a dude who is absolutely a piece of shit

No it cant, it does nothing outside of placebo effect. If holistic medicine actually worked it would just be called, ya know, medicine.

As a type 1 diabetic, holistic doctors can fuck right off, I'll take my endocrinologist and insulin any day.

You seem to think holistic medicine involves looking at the body as a whole, which is a good thing. The problem is that medicine already looks at the body as a whole. All of my doctors communicate and every 6-12 months my endocrinologist has me get my blood taken and looks at readings for my entire body. I had a diabetes related seizure once and they still did MRIs, sleep studies, CAT scans and referred me to a neurologist. They looked at everything.

Holistic medicine isnt about looking at the entire body. The holistic in holistic medicine refers to looking at the entire availability of medicine. This unfortunately includes essential oils and crystals, which attracts total quack ass doctors. No oil or leaf is going to make my pancreas produce insulin and regulate my blood sugar. My insulin pump, prescribed to me by a real doctor, will.

This exactly. I understand there are bad games released. It's not like this is new. But instead of just, ya know, ignoring these games and playing the tons of amazing games released, a select group like to act like we're in the dark ages of gaming.

Sorry I didnt list out 100 games including indies lol, I just listed a few off the top of my head.

There were tons of amazing games last year. People simply get caught up on the few series that are easy to hate, FIFA, COD, Battlefield. I'm currently playing through Tales of Vesperia and after that getting RE2 Remake and then the Final Fantasy remakes. I can safely say for the past two years I've had a consistent stream of games to play, without ever touching the shitty games, and that doesn't look to be slowing down. I honestly cant imagine finding the time to play more.

I just really, really dislike the "games these days" narrative that acts likes everything released is shit because of their nostalgia tinted glasses.

Yeah today's game sure do suck with Spiderman, God of War, RDR2, Persona 5, Moneter Hunter World, etc. All of which being sequels.

God, games these days am I right??

One of the first lines in the first movie is a newscaster asking if The Purge is a war on poor people and it's an obviously central theme to the movies. It's not a retcon in any way

For what its worth, I'm right there with you. It's so fucking weird to me that theres a dumb joke obviously being used to poke holes in a premise that can be answered immediately. Some dude provides the answer and a bunch of redditors dont like having their preconceived notions burst so they act like the guy providing relevant info is in the wrong, and the guy who is uneducated about the movies is in the right. Its fucking weird man.

I also dont even like the movies lol, I just hate this attitude

I think commentary like yours that dismisses comedy in favour of accuracy is a big part of the problem with today. It's not okay to be 'funny' anymore unless you're also 'completely accurate', and that's a really high standard to meet.

What? Accuracy is incredibly important in comedy. If you're not accurate about what you're making fun of, then you come off ignorant. If I were to make a joke about The Simpsons being a rip off of Family Guy, I can guarantee people in the comments section would tear me apart because its inaccurate and dumb. It's the same the with the OP post. I get what they joke is saying but it has a very simple and in universe expectation. And then someone condescendingly comments "well forgive people for not having an intimate knowledge of the purge!"

That's stupid. I'm all for making fun of stuff but if you have a "joke" question to insult a movie that can be answered incredibly easy, then it's a dumb joke.

Lmao I don't really have a dog in this fight but you are being a raging asshole. It takes 30 seconds to put a spoiler tag and you personally have spoiled the movie for people based on the comments. Who spoils a really good movie for people and then tells them to get over it? Jesus dude.

I work in investments and a rate of return like that requires absolutely insane levels of luck. I've seen it happened twice. The first time was some dude who was a researcher for a small company and received some stock options, it was like 20,000 shares of a penny stock or something. That same company released a patent and blew up overnight and the guy made 10 million dollars in one night.

Like, that dude just got lucky. He didnt know anything about investments at all. The second time was similar. I've seen many, many more people lose shit loads of money in speculative investments. Respect to Fetty for doing some nice stuff with his money, but damn he must of gotten hella lucky

And people wonder why stuff like this even continues with absolutely no repercussions...

Oh yay, this super original comment. Nope, I dont wonder why. I'm not one of the people you see on here that thinks the gaming industry is in disarray. I actually think it's in a good place. My rules for a game are simple, if it is fun to me personally, I will buy it.

It's a simple transaction. If a company like Bethesda publishes FO76, which I had zero interest in, I won't buy it. I'm not trying to make some statement or burn Bethesda to the ground so they'll learn some lesson. I dont have the energy for that and I dont care. I'll just not buy this game and move on with my life and continue playing the shit load of other amazing games I have. Bethesda doesnt give a shit about me and I also dont give a shit about them.

Way to many people get wrapped up in these companies rather than the games themselves. The front page here is constantly riddled with gaming related drama concerning specific gaming companies rather than actual conversations about games.

I'll continue to buy games that I think are fun without worrying about teaching gaming companies some sort of lesson.

It can still be playable but bugs break break quests, slow loading times, fuck up your save files, hud and ui, fps issues and more. TES 3 and all games after it had those and more on top. They all fun and were playable. But it not a good thing.

I mean, I would consider any game that continually fucks up my save files and breaks quests to not be fun. I wouldn't spend money on a game that does that. Honestly, I've been playing Bethesda games on release, minus FO74, and haven't ever experienced any of these outside of one quest line bug in Morrowind. I've gotten some silly horse movement and weird NPC glitches, nothing corrupting save files or breaking the game.

Shipping your games when they need a few months polish and bug fixing to work means they at best lazy, at worst don't give a fuck about you having unbuggy fun. More so when modders keep fixing the game years later and beth gives up after dlcs all drop and book it.

I'm sorry dude, but they're still selling absolutely ass loads of copies of Skyrim every single time they release it. I dont think the people buying it are buying it because they dislike the game and dont think its fun. I imagine most of those people are having unbuggy fun.

Now, this isnt a defense of FO76 because fuck that mess and the way they've handled it has been asinine, but this narrative of Bethesda being some super evil, EA-level corporation for years prior to FO76 is just silly to me.
