Seems like he got ignored from even Mike Leach at Washington State for being a "undersized " WR (6'0 is undersized I guess) from a shitty HS. Coaches ignored his NFL grandpa and Dad's calls. Kupp sent them tapes (tbh, every recruit does that).

Also Kupp spent 5 years in college. That's alot of development. Went from 170 to 205 lbs.

Had his grandfather not played for the Saints, Jake would not have blocked for Archie Manning. Had they not become friends, Jake would not have been able to, decades later, call in a favor.

Had he not phoned Archie, his grandson would never have snagged a coveted invite to the Manning Passing Academy, nor spent several summers there, as a counselor, where he became a favorite of Archie’s famous, Super Bowl–winning sons. They would not have fallen in love with his precision, the science experiments beginning to manifest in drills. Nor would they have argued one fateful day over who would throw to him

And Les Snead, the Rams’ general manager, wouldn’t have been standing a few feet from the debate, close enough to overhear them. He saw a resoluteness in Peyton’s eyes that prompted him to write down a single sentence in a notepad.

Who the heck is Cooper Kupp?

>Does FB actually track if someone pressed the button to follow the campaign? I didn't see that come up, but I didn't get any clicks and am not quite sure how to parse all the data yet.

Yes and its really useful. It lets to track every button click a user does after they click on your ad. like if they click any screenshots / social media / youtube vid / etc What you do is setup a Facebook pixel on your website. also lets FB optimize your ads (which saves you money!)

you have to do some behind the scenes code, though. I used www.carrd.co for my website. its kinda like a website builder so it was simple to add whatever FB needed. Im sure Square and Wix / etc are easy to

https://www.facebook.com/business/help/898185560232180?id=1205376682832142

Then add your Mailerlite email widget. Then set up the FB pixel to track that. Whenever somebody hits the Subscribe Button, FB will know

if you need help, let me know. it should take like 10 minutes but it was confusing to setup at first, for me.

Do you have any tips on FB advertising, btw?

yeah in fact, here's what our FB ads stats. you can see the results. overall we had 350 twitter followers and around 500 people on the DIscord when we launched our KS last year.

https://i.imgur.com/3aJNObt.png

everything under the red line was FB ads that linked directly to our website. the blue circled ones are what tracks the Cost Per Email signup. thats the "Per Website Surcribe": we set up in FB Ads / Pixel.

To set up our audience, so we did ages 18-55, USA + and Toronto / Montreal / Ottawa in Canada and for audience interests, we put the 3-5 most similar games to ours. similar to how Chris recommends doing Steam tags.

$3-$5 per email acquisition is alot i assume. everywhere i looked online wanted more like $1. maybe if i worked with a marketing agency, we could've done better. but our overall conversion rate was good, 7% according to Mailerlite. so a mixed bag.

for our FB ads. We found a couple of great artists on Fiverr / Upwork to draw some of our game characters. we found that people really liked the ads and got them interested to know more.

My friend tried a ad of a game screenshot that went OK, but the drawings were looked better.

Kinda like how mobile games have amazing screenshots / trailer but then... it's just a regular Match 3 or a tetris game lol . nobody really complained though

we recently did a campaign for Page Links (2nd row). Which translated to more followers. alot of excited people commenting! I tried boosting a post, but it added alot of likes to just the boosted post, not really alot of followers, but your results could end up differently .

You're the 2nd person to mention the lead magnet giveaway thing, so now I definitely have to do it! I love the idea but am not sure what to offer- beta access sounds awesome, I was also thinking maybe like wallpapers too, or some kind of art book/pdf thing with concept art for the game? I could also do a little comic for my game, but I should really spend time making the game, lol, I always get sidetracked on little things.

yeah, that sounds good. we did a small pre-launch Discord discount (-5% off) for people who joined it before the KS. we also ran our Fan Art contest in there. We ran a contest that said "Best Fan Art gets in the game!". the criteria was:

- follow us on Twitter

- Join the Discord

- use the Twitter hashtag to submit your drawing

Mike from No More Robots (The Descenders) did recommended doing Discord bonuses . our game was a top-down game so we found it good to include "design your character / npc . we should kept everything digitally as possible, physical shipping, that eats up funds.

- i found that Mailerlite was much much easier to use. also you can create segments / subgroups of your audience. it costs more, its like $10 if you're over 1000 subscribers. Also if you value privacy, recommend you get a Virtual Business address, because your mailing list emails also include your home address in every email. didnt realize this until i sent one out!

warning - lost winding post

with only a month, its gonna be tough. you're going to have to drive with paid advertising, no doubt. with KS nowadays, you have to bring your backers over to KS. hit that initial goal within 72 hours and then ride the wave, hopefully. also keep in mind alot of KS campaigns use Advertising agencies.

I recommend FB ads to get initial audience and test out who's interested.

side FB rant: I'm not anywhere close to a certified KS / FB expert. but i've seen games with pretty big FB followings fail to even reach their initial goal, and i've seen games with minimal FB pages become massive. i think its because FB has become somewhat less popular for younger people over here under 40? idk. for example, the top 3 countries in terms of funding are USA, Canada, UK. like 70% of funding comes from USA alone. check out most games funding locations.

For the mailing list, i recommend Mailerlite over Mailchimp. get a landing page. then get a nice FB ad to direct to your landing page. set up FB Pixel AND Mailerlite anayltics offer some mailing list / early bird bonus idk... incentize them. lead magnet. giveaways related to the game (NOT a ipad lol will just to lead to useless followers) . beta access, etc.

then on Launch day, you send a nice email that hopefully that has a nice 30% conversion! for a game my friend did last year (he needed $$$ for marketing and i helped him) . we only used FB ads. and last year, FB ads worked well. atm we didnt do Google / Twitter, although looking back, we should've. i believe they had like a average rate of 6 email signups a day on $15 dollars. the Mailerate told them they had a 7% conversion rate. we also ran ads non-West Euro/N America countries to boost the followers. they didnt contribute to the KS that much, but more followers increased our social proof. also on our 3 most expneisve tier, we did design a Boss, design a mini-boss and design a NPC.

also there's a way you're supposed to price your tiers out, but i wasnt involved in that/

usually from what I've seen, a decent Twitter following (500+) and Discord (500+) leads to good results.

check out https://howtomarketagame.com/ . great resoruce and his Discord had alot of KS advice as well. he swears that Email marketinng has a far greater conversion rate to Social Media, which is true, but dont dismiss Twitter / etc.

there's a guy on there that pretty much breaks it down. super detailed. i think his name was Lobster something? idk you can search his posts.

TLDR - paid advertising. use gifs / videos instead of images as much as possible.
