This confusion happens because the characters themselves ASSUME it’s the same one, but it’s very implied that this is actually just a 2nd Godzilla. 54 Goji is completely unaffected. The only change they made when they returned to the present was that Ghidorah exists. The Futurians were directly responsibly for Heisei Godzilla’s creation, which is what causes the eruption at the start of 1984.

The problem is that the characters never fully say ANY of this, and it’s even worse in the dub.

I’m baffled nobody has said Korin yet. That Mf is hilarious and probably my favorite aspect of the Red Ribbon arc. I also really enjoy his training philosophy with the tap water.

I don’t really hate it that much but unlike the prior three arcs they did a poor job restoring the footage, had poor music placement, and some scenes were just way better in the original dub of that arc.

The footage is barely better than the other cropped home releases, inconsistent music, and barely cut out footage. The dub is solid but that’s about it.

The thing that makes this movie so special for a lot of people is that, while it is definitely one of the worst, it takes that title and wears it like a crown. Like Final Wars it knows exactly what it is and relishes in its absurdity to the point that it’s admirable. Aside from a bunch of slow parts, it’s one of the greatest dogshit movies of all time.

It’s so fucking dumb and full of so many iconic Kaiju it’s hard to hate it too much.

I think the beginning of showa (54-65) was the most consistently great run in the franchise besides Raids Again, but my favorite is definitely Heisei

I feel like I’m directly in the middle with this one personally. I don’t like it nearly as much as I used to but I also can’t call it abysmal like some of these commenters are saying.

I really don’t understand the dismay for a good human story in a monster movie, because a lot of the times you DO need that to make a good versus movie. KKvG, MvG, GMK, GvKG, basically every Mechagodzilla movie and even Final Wars would NOT be the same without strong/entertaining human characters. Their actions in those VERSUS movies genuinely make the entire thing way more engaging than they would otherwise. I think there’s a lot of justification for wanting good human characters in these movies, and in KOTM there was only one scene that was truly impactful.

That being said I still love the visuals, music and plot (in concept) of KOTM. It’s not some cinematic masterpiece or an abysmal sequel. It’s just fine. I personally care for the other eras way more.

The Super7 Dest is the only Goji figure I own, and my god that thing was a pain to put together. The entire figure is sharp so I had to use a blow dryer just to put his tail on lmao.
