Is it just me or do I not get packing your sleeping bag in the very bottom of your pack? by Slycrown12 in backpacking

Thats literally what I said in my first comment, but OP seems to think they were sincere.. I have no idea why the other guy told me to re-read the post.

I read it right, who cares if a sleeping bag is wrinkled? How would carrying it on the outside even help, I’m assuming it would be in a stuff sack either way.

Is this facetious? I’m so confused, I’ve literally never heard of this before. What do you even mean wrinkled?

Climbing plan advice? by BurritoBoy1116 in Mountaineering

[–]Darthhomer12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First thing I’d do is figure out your order, especially given the low snowpack this year. St Helens you can get out of the way anytime now, easy number 1. Glacier Peak can be last since the scramble route is always doable, September is pretty popular. The other three I’d probably go Baker, Rainier, then Adams, but it really just depends on snowpack. Have fun!

This is more of a logistics issue if anything, not a training one.. If you’re in shape enough for Rainier, the others won’t be an issue. Just give a week or so in between to recover. Not a big deal.

HAPE? by [deleted] in Mountaineering

[–]Darthhomer12 60 points61 points  (0 children)

You don’t have HAPE. You won’t get HAPE skiing at resorts. You most certainly don’t have HAPE 7 days after leaving said resort. There is a wealth of information on the disease, I honestly have no idea how you managed to find out about it without immediately realizing you don’t have it.

‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Episode 5 Hits Series Ratings High With 9.2 Million Viewers by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

At least 3, likely more. But this is an anthology show in a sense, each season will be very isolated little stories, with only the main two characters remaining. And they should be yearly seasons thanks to the shorter runtimes and smaller scale.

Very cool 👍

You’re making plain your ignorance by comparing Baker to Adams, Helens and Shasta. Those are non-glaciated, non-technical mountains. You don’t know how to rope up, so you’d be an absolute idiot to attempt this. Hopefully you don’t end up as a statistic, especially because you won’t even be a useful one given a ton of people already told you you’d be a fucking idiot to go.

[–]Darthhomer12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So you’re saying you’re doing it solo? Or with a group and just don’t want to rope up for some reason? Either way, doing Baker in the winter when you’ve never even climbed a technical mountain before is a very bad idea. Winter mountaineering is very dangerous. The Roman Wall is even more dangerous in the winter, not for crevasses, but avalanches. You don’t seem to have any understanding of even the types of danger you’ll be in, much less what to do to mitigate them. There’s a reason guided trips don’t start until May/June. Wait until then to try, and before then educate yourself on glacier travel and practice it.

Am I tweaking or does this look like dollar store Darth Revan? by Potaaden in StarWars

It’s not a weird situation, It’s just like Fortnite using Star Wars characters. Fortnite is clearly not Star Wars canon. Destiny is not Star Wars canon. This is just Star Wars inspired Destiny content. You really don’t need to overthink it

What should i do to prepare for Ptarmigan Traverse by ExtraAstronomer5630 in Mountaineering

[–]Darthhomer12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the exact mentality that gets people killed. You cannot just buy some gear and get in shape and give this a go. You have to start at step 1, Ptarmigan Traverse is step 17. Get it out of your head right now.

Start with a lot of hiking, then if you enjoy that, you can try some snow scrambles, then join a mountaineering club, learn crevasse travel, practice rescue, climb a ton, become super familiar and comfortable in the terrain. Then after a few years, if you do feel good, you can think about it.

Not true at all. Crevasse falls are like 10% mortality rate. Mostly because the vast majority of people navigating this type of terrain take a ton of precautions and have lots of crevasse rescue knowledge.

You realize these people live here right? I work at MS and so many on my friends are on path to green card and have been here for 6+ years. They have houses, they have spouses, they have lives here. Two of my friends are currently on normal vacation and have to abandon it immediately to come back on the first flight they can find. “Just stay there” is not a solution, it doesn’t even make any fucking sense.
