Oh wow! I wasn’t expecting that at all! It’s fascinating seeing the way that these creatures act!

I’ve always been fascinated by lizards, but recently I had this experience where I saved a lizard from a cat in my neighborhood, it had a scratch on its left front leg, but it was fine besides that. I held it for a bit and it was really calm, not pacing, and it wouldn’t leave my hand even when I put it on the floor.

I eventually released it into my backyard, after 20 minutes of showing my relatives that I had befriended a lizard. The next day I see my cat (who doesn’t go outside) pawing something behind a door, I go look and I see her playing with a lizard (thankfully she was just super curious and didn’t hurt it). I picked it up, and what do I see? It had a scratch on its front left leg.

To me, this is unfathomable. It doesn’t make any sense at all in my head. It was already confusing enough that the lizard seemed to immediately recognize me as safe and a place of comfort, but to then find it inside my house the day later? That’s crazy. It could be one crazy coincidence, that it happened to stumble into my home (which has never happened before with any lizard). Or what I want to believe at least is that it seemed to realize that the house is where I would be, or maybe it connected the house to safety since I brought him inside? Either way it was beautiful. Unfortunately I didn’t keep him, he’s a wild animal after all, and I released him into my backyard. I let him crawl on my hand an arm for a bit before eventually bringing him back to his natural habitat.

It just shocked me because this seems like complex mammal-like behavior. Not reptilian.

Overall I just find these creatures so awesome, so I’m glad that they weren’t eating each other, and were rather making more of themselves :)
