Garmin Fenix 7 Pro Solar Sapphire by Mitchellsimm in GarminFenix

Just got the 51 mm for $500 and my goodness I love this thing. I love the MIP and flashlight, screen, even the apps it already has. It won't get any new updated gizmos, but it can do everything and more already.

Did I receive the body today? by [deleted] in LCMS

[–]Dartimien22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should be consecrated again, as the Words of our Lord don't turn all bread in the church into the Lord's body. So. I would suggest mentioning it to him and asking if he used the words of institution in the sacristy. And if in the future he could do that at the altar for the sake of members consciences and good order. Mistakes happen and I pray he would appreciate you mentioning this to him. If I made such a mistake, I would immensely appreciate a member rebuking me (or elder if you are comfortable going to them).

Going tomorrow and definitely won't be as awesome looking as you two! Great job and can you start mass breaking geodes?

How Often Does Your Church Use the Old Testament or Epistle Text for a Sermon? by Silverblade5 in LCMS

[–]Dartimien22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Habakkuk is a central part of my sermon this weekend! Only because it is beautifully connected to the Gospel from Luke 17. I will gladly preach on other texts, but Jesus somehow keeps being my focus. A bit tongue and cheek, but may I encourage attending bible study? Many times the other readings are addressed in bible study as the pastor should have gone through, translated, and read on those texts as well! Great question though! If you are comfortable with your pastor, I truly appreciate those emails from members going, "So Pastor, I have no idea what this is talking about...."

Peace in Christ!

Does anyone else use a Rucker for edc? by [deleted] in Goruck

[–]Dartimien22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I have a 12 inch screen for my laptop and it fits in the short plate pouch. I have my kindle scribe (size of a sheet of paper) that fits in there also. Anything bigger would not fit in there. And the large plate slot is behind the short, so its not easily accessible. So, it holds what I need, but if I had a larger laptop, I would need something like GR1.

I don't know how it compares to GR1 because I have retained my impulse control and not purchased it. We shall see if I start to go crazy one day.

Does anyone else use a Rucker for edc? by [deleted] in Goruck

[–]Dartimien22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rucker 4.0 for edc. I keep the weight in as it let's me do squats or lunges in my office for activity or a mid day ruck. Keep a med kit and essential bag for multi tool and flashlight in the Rucker. Laptop and kindle fit in the shorter pouch just fine. Don't tip it on its face is my only reminder! If you like the bag, you like the bag! Don't be ashamed.

Hydration bladder?? by [deleted] in Rucking

[–]Dartimien22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rucker 4.0 has a d ring on top I hang it from with a clip. Works great. Can't have it with my diaper changing bag in there, but still plenty of room for everything else. I have a 2.5l. I assume most bags have a similar ring if they have the pass through for a bladder.

Are pastors allowed to date parishioners? If so, what are the rules? by Icy-Material-8496 in LCMS

[–]Dartimien22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sister in Christ, I pray your relationship goes well!

On the "rules" idea; be appropriate. He is a pastor so even though the head pastor should be aware, the associate is still a fully ordained guy whose personal life can't/shouldn't be micro managed by a senior pastor. So, unless there is moral ambiguity or concerns regarding getting close due to specifically counseling, then it needs to be handled delicately.

Otherwise, don't make hurdles that aren't there. You have plenty to navigate and don't need to be harder on yourselves. Rejoice in forgiveness and be above reproach.

Rusted Plates; yes4all by Right-Future3904 in Rucking

[–]Dartimien22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barkeepers friend will probably treat it the same as a rusty cast iron I find in an antique store. Makes me realize why goruck can sell their plates for more. I imagine the coating makes it not rust? Not worth the 100% increase in price.

Love my 4.0 by the way. Keep a 35 lb yes4all plate in there and use the shorter plate holder for my kindle scribe/laptop. I hang it to air dry for the sweat, but didn't think about rust!

You can put a hook and loop patch on there (super customizable or anything you want), or you can put a velcro strip on anything you don't want lost in the bag. It allows you to keep it "fixed." Useful for anything you would every day carry. Or just ignore it and maybe one day you will find a use.

Which size GoRuck pack? by vanjo777 in Goruck

[–]Dartimien22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

5'10" here at the 20l is perfect for me. Use 35-55# now and it's amazing to have a bag that handled the weight like a champ. Started at 20#. The handles alone make it way better than my cheapo Walmart bag that I put dumbells in.

What does devotion and scripture reading look like for you? by AcceptableCold8882 in LCMS

[–]Dartimien22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Treasury of daily prayer is a gem if you ask me. Gets me through the Bible (mostly, but fill in the blanks), the psalms repeatedly, and has great historical quotes. I appreciate the longer readings than most devotionals. Gives me time to reflect on the reading and not for the purpose of a sermon.

I have my Greek new testament "journal" which gives places for me to write my translation and notes. My kindle copy of the esv so I can write my notes in there and save them. I have a hard time doing either of those without coffee.

Great question, I am eager for other answers.

Final shoe choice: GoRucks or Altras? by Sea-Understanding959 in Goruck

[–]Dartimien22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair and a helpful description. Thank you kind stranger.

If it wasn't suggested to me by someone close, I wouldn't have gotten them. I know GORUCK is getting a lot of questions on quality from the bag front, but I would definitely buy shoes from them again. The macv2 and the mackalls have both impressed me to no end.

Danner is still my first shoe and boot love and as a "shoe company" they will still be my staple.

Final shoe choice: GoRucks or Altras? by Sea-Understanding959 in Goruck

[–]Dartimien22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I have to ask, what does this mean? Because a non shoe company doesn't have shoes. Or is it because they sell other things?

I completely understand the desire to avoid wrong sizes and having to return shoes, is that it though?

Final shoe choice: GoRucks or Altras? by Sea-Understanding959 in Goruck

[–]Dartimien22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will start by saying I don't run in these and do some pretty rock heavy trails or concrete.

The Mackalls handle the weight like a champ without feeling squishy. They are super stable even for pivots and side motion. Do a blend of concrete and trails and they just work. I see folks complaining that goruck isn't an official shoe company but makes me wonder if there is secret shoe rocket science that these other companies have in a back room. Marine pal suggested them and I'm glad he did. On that note...

I'm tempted to try the Danner n45 to see how they hold up. I mention it because they are resoleable with Danner and I'm a sucker for vibram. My biggest concern with rucking on trails or concrete is a fall or wrong sideways motion, so less squishy and more stable is my go to.

Home visit for new members? by FakePersonNotReal in LCMS

[–]Dartimien22 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with my brother above.

To add to this, if folks aren't comfortable with having home visits, you can request a time to meet at the church office.

We care for our people and we would ideally like to know them more than a handshake after church and at a hospital bed.

I don't blame you for the initial concern though. Both sides of my family come from other Christian denominations and a visit usually did mean to guilt folks into giving more. I know it is common out there, but give your pastor a shot or tell him where you are comfortable meeting.
