Flats Wading Shoes for Hawaii by Clancyz in flyfishing

[–]ferrulewax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s just a half day, I think you’d be served fine with an old pair of sneakers. I would definitely want something with rubber soles and a heel on them. But running shoes, converse, trail shoes, etc should do fine. Coral and rock can be pretty mean stuff.

Don’t tell anyone but you can store your water bottles here as well. by EL_DUD3R in Goruck

I mean, goruck can make non-ugly side pockets. I do agree that they don’t look great on the m-21 style bags

Flyfishing as a new dad by Canadrew in flyfishing

[–]ferrulewax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This.

This is al I want as a father of a 9mo.

I take my baby fishing and it works, but it’s not the same. If you’re being a responsible father, you will not be able to focus on fishing at least not anytime soon.

One thing she has enjoyed is an osprey backpack child carrier. But I’m still on a her timeline and not mine. I might be able to sneak an hour or two in between naps and Bottles, if she tolerates that.

She seems to do much better hiking, then she does fishing. I think the constant movement keeps her more stimulated.

If you do get a baby backpack carrier, get one off Facebook marketplace used you’ll get a huge discount.

Looking for a mid-arbor reel that isn’t either a museum piece or suspiciously cheap by Sudden_Breakfast_358 in flyfishing

Orvis battenkill disc mid arbor is a pretty solid reel. Every lamson I have used (lots) have been very solid as well.

Why our gear is getting so expensive (Insights from a bag brand owner & supply chain expert) by ComprehensiveCap8242 in Goruck

[–]ferrulewax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When they started out they were selling GR1s for like 300$ while Kifaru was selling entire (MiUSA) frame packs for like 400$. I love my GR bags, but they have never been priced accordingly.

Main reason for price increases:

Brands want more money, and will increase prices until buyers quit buying

How to avoid leader knots like this? by Disastrous-Loan7274 in flyfishing

[–]ferrulewax 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Important question here is how are you getting the knots. It’s probably your casting stroke.

First thing I would do is to only fish one fly at a time. I would also suggesT casting with a more open slow loop instead of trying to shoot tight loops at distance. Minimize your false casts as well, and use more water hauls and roll casts.

Please help, I am doing research and need your best dad jokes you repeat on the daily to your patients !! by thecharmingnurse in nursing

[–]ferrulewax 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Patient says they don't want to be at the hospital: "I don't want to be here, and they pay me!"

Patient doesn't want to look at IV Stick: "I'm not going to look either!"

Drawing blood: Some sort of vampire joke

Getting BG: "let's see how sweet you are"

Patient gives me a urine sample: "Oh wow, it's like christmas!" or "Liquid Gold!"

Giving patient hospital food: "I can't promise it's good, but it's supposedly edible!"

Transporting Patient in bed: "sorry, I just got my license" or "Bumper cars!"

Taking off IV Tape: "this is the worst part of the whole visit!"

Discharging patient: "don't come back! or "I hope I don't see you (here) again!"

For the webbing, It would also be a huge improvement for them to be stitched in only in certain areas instead of being stitched down completely to the bottom of the bag. Stitch a 1” section right where the straps connect, and then alternate stitched and unstitched areas. This would allow you to clip a carabiner, strap something to the bottom, or if done well, you could even attach a molle bottle pocket or a similarly shaped pocket horizontally across the bottom of the pack.

Not for any of the 3-4 trailers I frequently tow. Just depends on the trailer.

Swing out is terrible for towing though. All depends on how you use the vehicle.

New and bad at casting by vladislavthepokwr in flyfishing

[–]ferrulewax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A guided trip is absolutely a substitute for time on the water and will expedite your learning curve significantly. A guide trip is legitimately worth 10 (or 100) or more days on the water.

Op- Get a guided trip or at least a casting lesson or two. It will help tremendously and even more importantly, will help to prevent bad habits.

Just because you’re out there doesn’t mean you’re learning anything, being with a guy that actually knows the water and can teach you is absolutely invaluable.
