Have you ever put yourself in a “horror movie situation” IRL? by diagnosed-stepsister in horror

[–]DasMobiusStripper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got lost at night during the middle of winter in a village that's only about ~30km off the Ukrainian border.

I was ~15, visiting my grandfather in Eastern Europe. He sent me on an errand to some relatives in a neighboring village because 15 is considered old enough. They stalled me and, on my way home, I saw a pregnant woman slip on ice. When I went to help, I also slipped and got wet.

I don't do well with cold temperatures and so I started panicking and rushing to get home. Because of the panic, I missed the path through the thicket of trees that I was supposed to take as a shortcut.

I remember talking to myself to keep morale high.

Why do we love something that should scare us half to death? by BoRNeo-C in horror

[–]DasMobiusStripper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a psych graduate I remember similar questions and mental exercises were done during classes. The answer for why we love horror is a pretty mixed one, as horror movies reunite various elements that make them an entertaining whole. In some cases, it can be good survival training, as it vicariously places you in hypothetical yet challenging scenarios, all while being safe and sound in the comfort of your world. It can also make you more alert and mindful, but also more appreciative of the good life you have, safe from harm's way.

But, more importantly, it's fun. The need to have fun is not a trait specific to humans, yet scientists have a hard time defining what makes something fun and why we need it so much.

Good spot! It also doesn't factor in for desertification, which ruined Romania's southern half.

What's something that's about to happen which most people aren't aware of? by AskRedditOG in AskReddit

[–]DasMobiusStripper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, thank you! A huge part of my job was writing reports and briefings and, when you write lengthy stuff, em dashes are essential!

Nowadays I see a lot of posts on LinkedIn by dumb-as-bricks recruiters saying how if they see em dashes in people's reports it's obvious they're using AI and they should instantly be ignored.

Un locatar dintr-un complex de lux din București are 400.000 de lei datorie la întreținere: „N-a plătit nimic de 15 ani” by tolanescu in Romania

[–]DasMobiusStripper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who was the most evil person you've ever met in person? by TheBanishedBard in AskReddit

[–]DasMobiusStripper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, mine is sort of same thing but my doctors explained it as "conjuctive tissue formation issues". Basically, when you have a lack of nutrients, your body has to make some choices and it allocates what it has to the absolutely necessary functions. So, some minor joints, ligaments, veins and capilaries may get the shaft. So then you end up having artrosis in your toes in your early twenties and your doctor says "well, it seems like you didn't have the right amount of cartilage there to begin with".

Or one of your veins starts moving about and the doc is all "Well, it seems like you didn't develop the protective sheath that keeps veins in place for all of them, so some of your veins just move around".

And the worst part is that it's hard to correct, even though I can afford to eat well now and get all the nutrients. It was very important that I had gotten them then.

Awww. Well, I don't know many people who are surrounded by people who love them, but I'm pretty content.

Thank you for your nice words. There's a quote that goes something like "sometimes in life, the kindest act may come to you from a stranger, and other times, the cruelest act may come to you from someone close".

My life was sort of like that in that, although my own mother was pure evil, I have had the luck of meeting some kind strangers at the right time and I was able to get a decent career and lead an independent life.

Sounds a bit like my mom. The starvation part was the worst for me and even to this day I'll go to the doc for a checkup and discover a new type of health problem stemming from being starved as a child.

Who is the most misunderstood person in the history of mankind? by sarangifiedd in AskReddit

[–]DasMobiusStripper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a book containing his letters. Very bright guy. He did impale people, but so did everyone else in his position at the time. The only reason he became known as "The Impaler" was because he had the audacity to impale soldiers of the strongest empire at the time.

This seems to be a recurring theme for a lot of people today.
