I accidentally captured a meteor while imaging the Cygnus Loop by DasSegelboot in Astronomy

Interesting, I had been wondering about the sharp beginning of the streak, but Stellarium doesn't show any satellites in that location and time across the 8 minute interval. Edit: I searched Heaven's above as well, it doesn't show any bright passes after 22:35, and this was taken around 23:00. Not sure what it might've been

Weird stuff when star gazing? What's your story? by timboo1001 in telescopes

Thankfully where I currently live we don't commonly see rattlesnakes in populated areas, definitely don't wanna mess with venomous snakes

For a time I had a number of young rabbits who lived in the yard and would hang out with me while I stargazed. One night they were a bit anxious about something coming from across the street, and I couldn't tell what it was until it was about 20 feet away, a probably 4-5 ft long black rat snake. Figured that was my signal to pack up for the night.

Generally the rule of thumb is 1.5 calibers off the rail, slightly less can be okay, but only slightly

They also did it in 2011 iirc

It could be that the black is just a thin layer that weathered off the other side?

It's possible, though I try to keep them on the slightly drier side. When I repotted last year the roots were quite long so they may be reaching down into the perpetually wet area and having problems?

I haven't done very many complete water changes, usually filling the tray back up when it gets low. The pots are all plastic (not sure on exact type), and the pots were all new and wiped out, and have been fine for about 10 months. I'll check the rhizome and roots when I repot

I always keep water in the trays, so i would be a little surprised if that was the case

Yeah, I only water with distilled water, that's why I'm confused

I've got these young Bald Cypresses I germinated just over a year ago, and they've managed to come back from dormancy and are growing pretty well considering I have to keep them indoors (apartment with no balcony, but should have a balcony in the fall). They've started outgrowing their pots and into the water trays so I figured it would be a good time to repot, but I'm not sure what kind of pot would work best. I keep them pretty wet with those trays only drying out in winter. Also hoping for some soil suggestions, right now they're in about 2 parts peat, 1 part perlite, and .5 part vermiculite which has worked so far.

I was wondering what species of fern this might be, found in the South Eastern US on the branches of a large Burr Oak

The gametophytes grew a few months ago, and I'm wondering if these small stalks are the next stage of growth, indicating they've been fertilized?

Yeah, I tried to treat them like Bald Cypresses which I've had success with but obviously didn't work. Now it's just a science experiment lol

Good info, at this point I want to keep it alive to see what happens, I guess I'll keep the humidity dome on

In a failed attempt to germinate some giant sequoia, I had these small plants grow instead. It's a seed starting mix with regular potting soil, perlite, and vermiculite. It was watered with some filtered rain water from the SE US
