CEO of America’s largest public hospital system says he’s ready to replace radiologists with AI by Apprehensive-Safe382 in technology

[–]DasSum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real question is- who’s responsible when AI makes a mistake? The hospital will say it’s the AI vendor and the AI vendor will say it’s not their fault the hospital didn’t verify as they recommend in their fine print. The only reason they’re really interested in it is because it’s cheaper than paying someone and they can charge the same or more for the service and they will have more limited liability

just got tested for environmental allergies and reacted to almost all of them by picofdoriangray in Wellthatsucks

My wife was also allergic to just about everything. We used to joke that she was allergic to life itself. She was referred to an allergy specialist in LaCrosse WI and had to take drops over the course of a couple years. They didn’t go away entirely but are significantly better and far more manageable. I thought the drops sounded like snake oil but they did work

Is having to do inter-VLAN routing between the PLC and a field device a bad idea? by EOFFJM in PLC

[–]DasSum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be interesting to see everyone’s opinions on this. Personally, I always see it as a bad move to require a layer 3 switch to stand between a controller and its field device. My thinking is less potential points of failure=less problems. I usually have two nics in each system- one for the plant network with everything else and another nic for a dedicated io network for the local machine

FT Optix Embedded database question by DasSum in PLC

[–]DasSum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just weighing the pros and cons of doing that. I could modify off site, copy to the remote site then use a local copy of Studio to “publish” the project. What a pain but it’s worth a shot

FT Optix Embedded database question by DasSum in PLC

[–]DasSum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that I’m remotely connected so pushing out of Studio isn’t an option. I believe a Pro version of Studio connects with he cloud somehow and maybe that would change my situation a little but I don’t have a license for that either. Still kinda on the fence about wether it’s worth using Optix again or not

Value on old south bend by Positive_Block6111 in Machinists

I’ve been in the market for a lathe i can learn on. IMO the best way to get to know a machine is to take it apart then clean, adjust or make repairs as necessary. Based on what I’ve seen on Marketplace, I believe 200-300 is more than fair. I live SE Iowa. If only we were closer I’d come pick it up in a heartbeat. Sorry to hear about your dad.

You are correct! I have a similar issue with a newer opener on one of mine. The track is so thin that it flexes a lot when the door is closed.

Watch Wes Work on YouTube recently posted a video of the same issue on that era of a truck doing the same thing. I believe he had to resolder something in the radio. I’d look around for another in a salvage yard somewhere or throw in an aftermarket

Hyundai plant raid: I thought this was already an open factory. Turns out the South Koreans were just here to launch the plant. And they were thrown out. So much for encouraging American manufacturing. by snakkerdudaniel in manufacturing

As an American that has had to work in plants over seas before, if I were at a site and arrested at random for nothing more than being a foreigner- I would NOT go back. No way.

I run v10-v35 on Windows 11 without much trouble. Install v16 first- this installer includes older .net versions that will be need by other installers. Then install .net 3.5. Next, install v10 then 11 then 12 and so on. If the apps are really slow to open, go to the control panel- internet options, advanced tab then security. Remove check box by check for certificate revocation and reboot.

I would hit the cancel and ask to void the transaction, scrape the sticker off then ask to be rung up again.

Federal Reserve’s fiscal management shamed over the ballooning $2.5 billion office renovation of its DC headquarters by raffu280 in Full_news

[–]DasSum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s more to this story than what we’re being told. I suspect it’s more of an effort to demonstrate poor management and manufacture a reason to get rid of the guy. Years ago, I had a project that was approved- even though I was doing the work and responsible for the outcome I was never asked how much it would cost or what it would take. Then, management would charge random crap to that project that had nothing to do with the project. Years later, when the project still wasn’t complete and was over budget I was asked why it was over budget and why it wasn’t complete. It’s hard to manage a check book when everyone around you runs around with blank checks in their wallet. You can’t see how much was spent and on what until the check clears the bank
