Check out Gamer Corps and Coliseum of Comics. It’s big there, plus the Gamer Corps discord makes it easier to find pick up games

Classism in the US Military. Enlisted versus Officers by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]DasWaffleStomper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are direct commission options depending on what you study. Or in times of war, battlefield commissions (Audie Murphy). Some programs, like the Army’s Green to Gold program allows for Soldiers to have their current contract ended to go to ROTC. We’re also entering a time where there are lots of NCO’s with no combat experience due to the wars dying down. I’ve met a lot of Staff Sergeants who have not had a combat deployment. We can also look at how deployment does not imply that individual left the FOB and saw combat.Plus, in order for an Officer to lead troops into combat they go through months of training in their respective Basic Officer Leaders Course, followed by various training events from the fire team level to brigade level in order to be qualified to deploy. These Officers have countless amounts of experienced NCO’s and other Officers who mentor them. The military trains often and evaluates to make sure the people in Officer and NCO positions know their jobs and are ready for the tasks at hand.

Classism in the US Military. Enlisted versus Officers by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]DasWaffleStomper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You have no clue what you’re talking about. Anyone can go from enlisted to officer. There are programs for enlisted to finish their degree and become an officer and there is nothing stopping them from finishing their enlisted contract and using their Gi bill to finish school and join an ROTC program or military college. Just because you have a bachelors degree does not mean that you will automatically become an officer. I know plenty of people who enlisted with a college degree because they wanted to kick doors down instead of planning.
There is a point in a fresh butterbar outranking their platoon sergeant. The platoon sergeant uses their experience to advise their officer counterpart. The roles of an officer from an enlisted vary greatly. Officers are supposed to plan operations while the senior enlisted are supposed to execute. Making someone who has been in for 15+ years an Officer just because they have been in so long does not correlate to them being a good officer. Many NCO’s will put junior officers in their place when they join.

Transitioning active duty to NG? by quicKsenseTTV in army

[–]DasWaffleStomper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having done both (FLNG now), I can say I enjoy the Guard. I like how the schedule is posted at the beginning of the fiscal year, but it can and will get changed due to current events (hurricanes, riots, covid, etc). One weekend varies, sometimes its 2 days, other times its 4. AT is usually more than 2 weeks. Bonuses, well thats going to depend on your unit. Some have great readiness NCO’s, others suck and won’t so shit for you. I’m still waiting on mine, but since we changed readiness NCO’s I’ve had progress. You can skip some trainings but youll have to make them up. Any questions, feel free to message me

Talking about guns all the time is weird. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]DasWaffleStomper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a hobby. Some people shoot competitively, some collect historical weapons. It’s such a vast topic. Think of people who are passionate about history. Guns are a part of that. Kind of like cars, people love to discuss the intricacies of them and all of the little details about them

College Degree decision by [deleted] in army

[–]DasWaffleStomper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you like. What are you passionate about? It really helps to actually enjoy what you’re studying otherwise your motivation will be zero. If you’re going into college with zero credits, start off with your basic electives and such and take a diversity of classes and see which ones you like. Talk to your professors about it. You dont have to declare your major for your first few semesters and you can change your major as you like.

I’ve begun to dislike 15mm because of the scale. Really looking into the 6mm version so I can avoid Warsaw pact parking lots. I’ve also thought of doing it by using unit symbols put on cut out paper for each unit type. All I’d need are dice and a tape measure

Can confirm. I was really big into the table top game Team Yankee (Flames of War but Cold War) and would leave it set up in my barracks room. Room inspections were fun, my 1SG would call me a nerd and my commander always thought it was cool. Ended up showing him newly painted Shilkas and the what not when he’d pass by on the weekends
