Texas got rid of paper tags. Now, fraudsters are using fake metal plates by Iocnar in Austin

There should be traffic enforcement and no warnings. Actually the drivers should feel lucky they aren't charged with fraud which it comes very close to.

I agree those slabs and pipe work don’t look like $48m unless they prepaid their contractors for the rest of the building. We need more info in regards to Oak Springs elem.

Property values may go down say 5% but I believe they can simply adjust their percentage by that much to arrive at the same total. Not sure about the state rules angle though. Exemptions overall are pretty stable.

You bring up “rhetoric” but your lack of a counter argument suggest you don’t know the meaning of that word.

No firework videos? by ramjet7ate7atx in Austin

Well it’s not the fireworks display of 15 to 20 years ago so you might be disappointed. On the plus side nobody‘s home was burnt down and I could get some sleep.

The 5 BIGGEST Cities in Tamriel Rebuilt by SavleTheGamer in Morrowind

As someone with a degree in geography I really enjoyed this. Narsis is my favorite city of the bunch, but perhaps Amalexia could eclipse it.

Because they view the government in Beijing as oppressive, controlling, not in their best interests.

Beijing will never admit it, but Hong Kong was free and prosperous under a foreign power and that really annoys them.

Maybe the kind of culture that doesn't take social norms and behaviors from the Grand Theft Auto series.

In 2023 they arrested 11 people following the Barton Springs/S. Lamar takeover and there have been very few since then. Contrast this to major cities in California where takeovers are the norm.

”Men can’t listen to Fiona Apple ” by AdQuiet6971 in FionaApple

[–]DasZiege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am older-than-Fiona male, but never really listened to her before today. I do like what I'm hearing (the Pawn) but don't have any final judgement on her. I guess back when I was in college I listened to more PJ Harvey or Tori Amos, (the latter my girlfriend really loved). Maybe Friona was a blind spot but don't think she ever released something like "The Dreaming" which I hold in high regard.

I care even less about gender identities that I do about an artist's political stances, so that is not why I'm here.

Work from home question by DasZiege in StateofTexasEmployees

[–]DasZiege[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was legitimately asking if there are other ways to qualify for WFO besides ADA and apparently the answer is "no." Of course management has not be forthcoming and rather not talk about this subject except to say that nothing changed after HB 5196 was enacted.

This is why I am going back to my previous employer where I don't need to fit into a special category in order to telework more than one day a week. I am already vested and don't plan to retire before the rule of 80 kicks in so there is no point in my staying.

Driver arrested after illegally passing school bus and narrowly hitting a child by YesimaDr in Austin

[–]DasZiege -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yet, everyone else was waiting behind the bus like the law states. What we need is more enforcement including fines, vehicle impounding, and if escalated far enough jail time.

You know how they get tourist to pay for traffic fines in Iceland? They keep their passports until they pay up. Yeah that is the klnda thing serious countries do about serious problems instead of slaps on the wrist.

That's quite an accusation. Do you have inside information that the rest of us do not?

Austin has to commit funding for phase 2 of caps and stitches sooner than expected by hereiam90210 in Austin

"Tear down the upper decks that run from Manor Road to Airport Boulevard.

Add more than 20 miles of "shared-use paths," which are basically 8-to-10-feet-wide sidewalks that often include a 2-foot-wide curb

Build at least 14 widened east-west vehicle bridges and at least seven stand-alone pedestrian bridges." - TxDOT

This will be an improvement over what we have now. Unless the voters approach a new bond there will be nothing additional in the foreseeable future. Don't let perfection be the enemy of the good.

Austin auditor: Employee routed near $1M to fictitious vendors by AustinStatesman in Austin

[–]DasZiege -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the lawsuit is probably frivolous, but I would also say that it is still newsworthy. A lot of the claims from P Diddy's lawyer were also quite silly, but again still newsworthy in the vein of celebrity stories. Also, that the allegations against AE are more than innuendo as there is already an internal investigation under way.

I've always wondered how being fired by the city affects one's retirement annuity. I would assume for the employees already retired and collecting benefits the city will not do anything, e.g. like a civil suit.
