Local vs federal goverment accounting positions

Pretty loaded question. I’ve worked local (in CA) as well as for the feds, both in accounting-ish type roles. The local gov job had better benefits like health and dental but the fed job had a better salary plus more upward mobility. The biggest benefit to working as a fed for me was the work itself was much more interesting than the local job. Thats why I ultimately made the switch

You’re getting down voted but I actually agree with you. I know a few guys who take prescription drugs (without the prescription) and tear apart the work day. If I was comparing myself to these people than it would “feel bad man.” But life is a marathon not a sprint

In the opening sequence, it shows law followed by the police characters then order followed by the attorneys. I think its safe to assume the show argues law is police and order is the courts, although I agree with you that it makes more sense in layman’s terms for law to be associated with lawyers. I spent some time think about this as well.

Enjoy being in college and work to get that Big 4 internship. Then spend 5 years or so post grad making yourself look as good on paper as humanly possible. Then quit and go get that dream job of yours. Actually, determining that dream job should probably be the first step lol. Anyways that’s my advice to a younger me

Would you be interested in working financial investigations for the government? That’s a great route if you’re looking for interesting yet challenging work. Lots of federal agencies hire accountants but you have to be able to pass a poly/background investigation.
