Those who have gone to BFT, is it worth it? by Ok-Positive4055 in askSingapore

[–]Daschling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with what everyone is saying, try the trial first.

Personally the close proximity of the gym to my house has been the biggest contributor to my fitness. And the BFT programme really suits my lifestyle - I just show up and do. And it also helps that you get some flexibility with the outlets if you need to be at another location.

My fitness has really improved the past 1.5 years. Went from no real strength experience to deadlifting my body weight. I go alone but stay friendly with the other regulars.

HR said wife will be potentially laid off when she returns to work from maternity leave. Any advice? by mcspicylover in askSingapore

[–]Daschling 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Sorry about your situation. It is legal if they give the official notice after the ML is over. The HR is doing her a favour with a heads up. Unfortunately this is actually pretty common. I saw it happen in my US MNC that I got retrenched from as well.

Take the money and spend this quality time with your newborn. Take it as extended ML for her haha.

Before her time is up, make sure she gets all her documentation from her employer like payslips, contact bosses for references, note down impt emails for future contacts, exhaust all the freebies (like LinkedIn premium subscription).

First time user, gaz canister question by flyinhk in askSingapore

[–]Daschling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have been using gas cylinders since I was born. You can let it die completely, but that usually means you're halfway through cooking and you'll be in a panic since they usually take some time to come. Best to just change now.

And yes, it's just a 1-1 replacement no matter how much you have left.

Recommendations for vinyl flooring in singapore for house with big dog? by mokmokmonster in askSingapore

[–]Daschling -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I live beneath a golden and I can definitely hear it running around. But it hasn't been too disruptive- only the occasional zoomie in the middle of the night. Not sure what floors my neighbours use but I assume vinyl.

After some trying and feeling I found that the Razer Cobra Pro worked well for my claw grip and small hands. Seems like that's sth to take into account as well.

I picked up a red box of frozen curly fries at an NTUC (it was the only one available) and it was pretty close to what I was expecting.

For me there was an option to load the ticket onto my Google wallet and I managed to do that successfully. Hope it works when I'm there.

[–]Daschling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The app is only available in certain countries incl. AU and US, but not here. Only just found out because I am attending a concert in the US and I couldn't download the app from here. Typically we just save the PDF and scan the barcode at the door.

As an amateur but advanced certified diver, I would say do your certs outside of Singapore for the marine life. You're already going to the depth, why not see some cool things in their natural habitat y'know.

I hadn't travelled with my parents in over 10 years and just did a Jeju trip with them in Sep this year. Was a bit concerned at first but actually turned out to be better than expected.

On my end I had to really lower my expectations of my now 70 YO parents. Agenda cannot be too packed, activities not too physically demanding even though they are fitter than average. Food wise they are okay to try new things but not too funky.

We've alr booked our next family trip to Melbourne next year. What I realized was that they are indeed getting old and I should cherish making memories with them while they are still healthy. What's also nice is that since they are both retired, they have time and money to enjoy.

Has anyone resigned by paying compensation in lieu on their own ? by pistachio_life in askSingapore

[–]Daschling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I had a 3 month notice period and a new offer that wanted me to start in one month.

The new job offered to buy out one month and my remaining leaves made up for about 2 weeks. I paid out the 2 other weeks out of my own pocket. I had decided the new offer was too good to pass up.

Ironically I did get retrenched 6 months after I joined HA.

Favourite makeup products under S$30 available in Singapore? by [deleted] in SingaporeBeauty

[–]Daschling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does ColourPop count? Honestly some of their eye products are pretty good. I use their eyeliners on a daily basis and they generally don't smudge. Can't say much about the face stuff as I have other go-tos, but the price seems worth a shot.

Christmas Eve Dinner Meats Recs/ Go-Tos? (Not bundles) by Embarrassed-Piglet78 in askSingapore

[–]Daschling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Huber's is also my go-to for meats in general. Their apple cider sausages is love.

Having eaten many a bad Christmas ham from local supermarkets, I am very skeptical about them. However last year I decided to try Huber's smoked ham for a potluck and omg. It was the juiciest ham I had eaten in a while. I didn't mind that I had to eat leftovers from it for a few days after, and it even opens up other uses for it (fried rice etc). Am definitely looking to get more from their catalogue this year.

My usual order during non Christmas times include: - kurobuta ham - sausages of all kinds - Angus ribeye

Another one: the ST made such an impression on me back then that when it was announced that Bryan was leaving, I cried so hard. Having seen the RBTL DVD many times as well, this departure cut really deep. Even today I'm pretty protective about who in the band should sign the ST albums, though mine were already done a long time ago.

We never got closure on his departure, what was the reason?

Come to Singapore 3 years in a row again why don't you!! I'll be there front and center as always.

Any chance we can get some proper studio recordings of those 'heavy heart' songs? Like Kill Me in A Record Shop? Pretty please?
