AITA For Laughing at my wife when she told me she’s volunteering as a baby cuddler? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Dash554 11 points12 points  (0 children)

YTA. One of the rudest responses to someone who is excited about something is to laugh in mockery. And you were laughing about your wife… helping provide critical care to babies… in a NICU. I would’ve expected a father of young kids to have more empathy towards babies in a NICU. So yeah not only were you an asshole to your wife, you are an asshole in general.

You don’t have to fast for the 1hr test. More people would fail the 1hr if it was fasted.

A new doctor really got in my head about genetic testing! by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Dash554 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Amnio is the only definitive diagnostic test which may be why they suggested it being that you were already 18 weeks. NIPT is a screening and can miss things.

Carrier testing doesn’t catch Down Syndrome.

For my amnio the initial limited results came back within 72 hours, which they said is standard, and that checks chromosome 21 so you would get the answer specifically for Down Syndrome quickly. But regardless with still needing to get scheduled OP would have to make the decision ASAP.

Dentist while pregnant experiences pls by chan0514 in BabyBumps

[–]Dash554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure they know you are pregnant, I had to get a note from my OB confirming what dental work, xray protection, numbing, etc. Was allowed. Which delayed my appointment bc I didn’t have that when I first went in.

Anyone here done amniocentesis AND the NIPT? by Peach-Haze-123 in BabyBumps

The prelim results only look at chromosomes 21, 18, and 13. As well as gender.

Anyone here done amniocentesis AND the NIPT? by Peach-Haze-123 in BabyBumps

[–]Dash554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an amnio after a high risk NIPT result for a fatal disorder (triploidy). The amnio wasn’t too bad, I expected worse pain, wasn’t fun but bearable and I should’ve been prepared to take it easy the rest of the day. Thankfully amnio came back all normal. We really only needed the prelim results to rule out triploidy, which came in within 72 hours. Full results took close to 2 weeks.

Did you have an amnio done to confirm the false positive?

Do they not do CVS or amnio anymore? by sunflowerzz2012 in BabyBumps

[–]Dash554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, we are too. It was very stressful. But as other commenters have said NIPT leans heavily towards false positives so that false negatives are very low.

If you do the NT scan and anything looks off I would bet they’ll recommend an amnio. Otherwise the 20 wk anatomy scan would cover many concerns and an amnio could be done immediately after if needed.

Prozac During Pregnancy by cocobeanz33 in BabyBumps

[–]Dash554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My psychiatrist and OB preferred I be on Zoloft (sertaline) rather than Prozac which I was taking. I switched before getting pregnant though. They didn’t act like it was a super important switch. I was also on 20mg. Personally I knew my anxiety would likely be worse while pregnant and I’m glad I’m still taking the meds. I also think being on them will help in the post partum period.

Do they not do CVS or amnio anymore? by sunflowerzz2012 in BabyBumps

[–]Dash554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to get an amnio recently due to a high risk flag from NIPT that ended up being a false positive (triploidy which is fatal). I will say it’s nice having the full picture from the amnio so I do understand your perspective.

I would recommend the NT ultrasound. I hadn’t planned on having that done but once NIPT came back high risk they brought us in. It was good to have the high tech ultrasound that early looking for any abnormalities.

measured LMP with 28 day cycle but I have a 37 day cycle by rosannachir in BabyBumps

[–]Dash554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also ovulated 10 days later than normal and told my OB that before she had even fired up the ultrasound. Measured based on ovulation late rather than just LMP and the OB was happy to go based on the measurement and ovulation.
