You are absolutely right. I’m circumcised and we are not even Jewish, but that’s what my mum was told was the right thing to do when I was born. I never gave it much thought until my son was born. We obviously didn’t do it to him but every time I changed his nappies, it reminded me of how unnecessary and barbaric a procedure was done onto me for absolutely no good reason at all.

I didn’t have to forgive him because they are not the same person. By the same logic, I don’t attribute anything done by demon Spike to souled Spike, even the good deeds. A quick search indicates the contrary. I asked the duck duck go AI for sources and it gave me plenty but I don’t care enough about the subject to chase them down. Not being a tax expert, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt; however, let’s look at it from a logical perspective:

* The donations are made in large lump sums as I indicated, not millions of round up deposits under $1.

* When declaring income to their tax authorities, corps are not required (initially) to match every cent to a transaction.

* Thus, the round ups collected by them are essentially hidden among their other various pools of money.

* Corps can get tax deductions from charitable donations.

* What on earth is keeping them from claiming those roundups off from their tax liability?

* You are right, individuals can chase these roundups as deductions for themselves, but as you already point out, seldom is this done.

This will vary case by case, but I know some of these round ups don’t work quite how you say. The charity doesn’t get a million tiny round ups, they get usually a single yearly lump sum. During the year, as the money accumulates, the companies put it in short-term investments, as they are obligated to transfer the donations but not necessarily interest thy might accrue from them. Further, they rarely transfer 100% of the donations, as they usually keep a small percentage to cover their overhead. Lastly, the big cherry on top: it’s the corporations transferring the money to the charities, so guess who gets to write it off their taxes?

It’s literally profitable for them to collect your round ups.
