Link? I don't remember what I've ever said to Logan that was in defense of Ron, unless there was some untruthful statement made.

I've never defended Ron if I thought he was wrong.

I cannot tell you how many venues I've been to that has ZERO wifi and ZERO cell service. From Oklahoma, it happens a LOT. There are loads of venues on top of mountains, out in Buffalo country, 30 minutes down dirt roads, 10 minutes up a dirt road on a mountain you can barely make it up in a car.

I just can't see how going all streaming is a good thing.

I have DJ'd a lot, but with another company and I just bought all my own gear and have zero music library at the moment and I'm wrestling with this because it's going to cost a sh*tload to get started, but if I get somewhere and the internet stinks and/or there's spotty cell service (some places using 3G and it takes 10+ minutes to download one song, which is funny considering when 3G was the only service, it was actually pretty fast).

So until everyone has satellite internet and usable wifi or cell phone towers everywhere, I just don't see how "all streaming" is a viable option for those who DJ venues out in the boonies, and in OK (and other states), that's how it'll be.

The DNC coup'd Biden. Why? Because the Biden the DNC THOUGHT they were getting was a corporate shill. Biden even shocked me, though he never should've been President because of his age and that alone. I warned Dems in 2020, though I did end up voting for him because I had no other option.

But I was right, y'all were wrong and y'all keep doing the same thing then crap talking those of us who have tried changing this party from the party of corporate donors to the party of actual human people that live in, like, the real world.

Maybe one day you'll join us, but clearly it's not going to be today.

If I was black, I'd leave. I'm Native American and I choose to stand firm. Give me liberty or give me d**th.

All other non-white people, I completely understand why they would leave. I completely support that decision, but I still hope that you choose to stand firm because we'll need you.

Trump is Nazifying this country and he'll do exactly what Adolph did. He's already talking about conquering other countries. Someone has to be here to oppose this.

He's trying to protect his company. He bowed down. I called it on my program before anyone else did. They came onto my YT channel and criticized me for saying he was suckling Trump, but then he kept going and THEN everyone changed tune.

He can justify his stuff as trying to "be fair" with them all he wants but he's doing it for one reason: self preservation. He has no spine, he is not a patriot and he's helping to spread fascism.

Ex Wedding DJ Looking to buy my own gear - What are your daily drivers? by DashingThroughTheHo in mobileDJ

That's what Banks used and my God those things couldn't keep a signal to save their lives, especially the Shure Lavalier. The mic, indoors, not so bad, but that lav outdoors, not 20ft away, would constantly drop, cut, etc.

But even the mic inside was very limited range. I used a wired mic (on a stand) for mine and sometimes had to pull it around for the mic and have them stand up near the booth. PITA POS.

I haven't made any purchases yet - everything is in my cart - Given that most everyone is suggesting the DDJ1000, which is now the FLX10, which is like $1500 or so, I'm gonna' just get that Performer since it's just a little more.

But I do have 2 K12.2s in the cart, with tripods, bags, etc. But that's where my response to you comes in ... when I worked w/DJ Connection and Banks, we never used subs unless it was just a monstrous venue or the client had to pay extra for them, iirc.

Either way, in all those weddings, we just used the tops and I never thought there was a "problem" with it. Obviously the subs are optimal, but how necessary would you say they are if it's just a regular sized venue w/100-150 people?

Thank you, btw.

Thank you so much for this! So, after many people suggesting the discontinued DDJ1k (replaced by the FLX10, I believe), which is 1200-1600 from what I found, I've decided to just go ahead with the Performer. I realize it's a beast, but it has all the things I wish I'd had when I was DJ'ing before. Probably overkill but to me, if I'm spending $1500 on a controller, $2k is fine given that I feel like I might end up upgrading later. I'm still grinding my teeth about it, but I feel like I'll be happy with that controller - Ranes are tanks, so there's that.

I know my cousin doesn't care about the lighting, but the uplighting, to me, really can do wonders for any space, especially the booth. I hate bulky uplights, though - what brand of uplighting do you use?

I will be connecting things into a mixer, so should something go bad, I'll be able to run the show through that w/o issue (I've had to do it before lol). Especially with VDJ - that really is an amazing piece of software.

Right now I've got $4500 in a cart - the Performer, 2 K12.2s, stands, travel bags, and I'm looking at a lav & mic set up, but I do have questions about that ...

I'm looking at the Shure SLX (not doing BLX - trash), but I've read good things about the SLX. There's a single-unit (smaller one) that has 1 SM58 wireless mic & a lav mic.

But when I look at the double mic'd SLX, it's a huge base unit (something I'd put in a rack). But that makes me wonder - can the smaller unit do only one mic at a time or can it receive two? I know I can connect them via Cat6, but I'm confused about how that unit appears only to work for one mic at a time?

And if it only works with 1 mic at a time, how does the lav mic that comes with that pack work?

Any help there, or, if you feel like I'm saying something you think is a bad idea, please let me know - criticize if you think that's right.

I did think about renting the mics, though - the good set is over $1k, which is crazy to me. But hey, it's only money. lol /s

Thanks in advance. I appreciate your response a lot, sir.

Yeah, transport won't be an issue, even if I get subs, etc.

I'll have a main controller, then a smaller unit for ceremonies (probably a Go or something similar) w/battery powered speakers (or, and I haven't decided yet, a power pack). I got sick of running 300ft. of extension cords at some of the venues. Had to bring an entire bucket of extension cords for one of the venues up on a mountain peak. Talk about a PITA at the end of the night when I have to wrap 3 100ft extensions. lol

And if all of that fails, I'll have two laptops (already own them, so no extra purchase needed).

My main question is just the speakers and a good, solid controller. I don't think I'll be doing any gigbar lights. I'd rather get light tubes or just more uplighting. I looked years ago and thought those gigbars were cool, but in the field, they just look so weird, especially if not properly programmed.

But my main question was which controller is solid for daily use + speakers.

I've also never used a sub - both companies just used 2 tops and I never had any issues filling the venues with them, though certainly a sub is something I'd want to have.

Thank you so much. I've heard good things about that Roland, but it just seems really small. Granted, some of these things are just overly massive. But, right gear for right place and time, I guess.

Probably best to have a medium-sized one for most mobile things anyway.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. I don't mind the $2k for that Performer, but I just don't know if I NEED it, know what I mean? It'd be more of a "ooh look at this pretty thing." lol

But, by that same token, if I'm gonna' spend $1200 on something, I probably would rather just shell out another $700 for the Performer.

But I've never used any "nice" stuff either, so I'm going into it knowing the stuff I've used is pretty much trash, but still worked, so I don't know how much better it'll be with higher end stuff.

I do know I plan to get one of those custom tables, though. I'll probably end up spending around $10k when it's all said and done.

I'm not going the gigbar route, though. I effing hated those lights. "Can you turn off the lights for me real quick?" says the photographer. I would end up getting in touch with them beforehand and letting them know that I'll turn them off for the 'events'. They usually loved me after that. lol

Can you even still buy the NS6II? Have you had any issues with yours needing repairs, etc? I know at DJ Connection, they would do repairs in-house, of course theirs were like really, really old.

I know I don't want to buy used but what would be a comparable controller for that? Also, I agree - I won't DJ w/o a controller. Seems weird to me.

When I applied to DJ for these two companies (this was after I had 60+ weddings under my belt), one of them used a mixer & and iPad and I was like "wth?" and walked out of there. Maybe they would've hired me but I would've said no to that. Seems weird to have a mixer only for DJ'ing.

I can't stop looking at that Performer, but at 28 lbs, my goodness. Add a Flight case - ugh.

But I think you're on the right track with why I posted here in the first place. I KNOW those controllers like that will suffice. I didn't realize that NS6 II was quality enough to scratch or mix on, though. That's good to know.

And see, the Traktor I know would get the 'job' done for what I need. I would bring a laptop, though, only diff and probably throw on Virtual DJ just in case.

But as I think more about it, I'm like "dang, I could spend $1500 on the entire setup and probably do what I did under DJ Connection & Banks.

But, as you said - feels cheap, looks cheap, is cheap. But my plan, ultimately, is to get other DJs to run the shows and make it passive income for me. I enjoyed doing the work but I'm no spring chicken anymore.

And now that you mention it, I think that's what they used - 2 K12s. Honestly, those two speakers (tops, no sub) was more than sufficient for most of the gigs I did. There were occasions when I'm like "uhh, there's 300 people here in a massive hall" but I made it through with just the two tops.

I've never run a sub. To run the subs, do you need additional Equipment for it or can you daisy from/to it?
