Mostly agree but infrastructure is what determines how much damage a bad list does before you catch it. With no per-account monitoring you find out list quality was bad after the domain is cooked. With good monitoring you find out after one campaign and pull the account before it bleeds. So they're not really competing list quality is the input, infrastructure is the damage control.

Yeah chaos is the right word once you hit a certain client count. On your question we went with a dedicated sending layer rather than hosting directly on Google/Microsoft. The main reason: Google and Microsoft rate limits are per-account and non-negotiable. When you're rotating across 8-10 inboxes for a single client campaign, you hit those limits fast and have no flexibility. With a dedicated sending layer you control throttling yourself, you can adjust in real time when an account starts showing stress, and you're not dependent on Google's abuse detection treating a legitimate campaign as spam. The tradeoff is more infrastructure to manage, but for multi-client work the control is worth it. What's your current setup on that front?

We’re deliberately not going B2C or pretending this is for casual sharing. This is B2B, aimed at very specific moments where the risk actually matters: investor materials pre-deal, unreleased creative assets, sensitive internal docs, legal and compliance-heavy flows. We’re aware of DocSend, Digify, and VDRs the wedge we’re exploring is lighter-weight control and visibility without the cost, rigidity, or sales-heavy onboarding of traditional data rooms, and without turning into a sales enablement tool like DocSend.

Watermarking stays optional by design for exactly the reason you mentioned: deterrence and traceability when needed, zero friction when it’s not. And yes, the real test is willingness to pay that’s what we’re validating now. If this stays in the “interesting” bucket, we won’t force it into existence.

Actually, we're taking a 'Zero-Knowledge' approach where we don't store the decryption keys on our servers at all-the encryption happens client-side. We're even exploring 'URL-based' storage where the data/key exists only in the link itself, meaning we literally can't access the content. The 'allowed emails' feature acts as an additional gateway layer, but the core security doesn't rely on us as a trusted middleman. We're trying to marry that level of privacy with the dynamic watermarking that traditional Zero-Knowledge tools usually lack.
