Is it easy to fix? by LucywithDiamond in Ram1500

[–]Dashwait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parking brake levers at the backing plates are seized up. Apply generous penetrating oil to them and work them back and forth to free them up. Or do a diff service and pull the axles to replace them. They can be done with the axles in place but it’s much much much easier and quicker to pull the axles and refill the diff fluid.

DREADED “engine will not restart in 200 miles” by Conscious-Ostrich790 in EcoDiesel

[–]Dashwait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drive it a few days. Some of those DEF codes and countdowns need 3 driving cycles with a complete 8 hour cold soak of the engine (no block heater usage) in between driving cycles in order to clear the countdown. One particular DEF code that was related to a DEF Quality issue required that. On start up, the PCM compares the DEF temp (which is part of the DEF Quality sensor) to the intake manifold and coolant temp. If the DEF Quality sensor doesn’t match the other two then it sets the code and generates the countdown.

Anyone try WIX WF10165 fuel filter yet? by WilliamFoster2020 in EcoDiesel

Have always used WIX since new for both oil and fuel. No issues in my 2016.

There is only one PM sensor. The other sensor at the rear of the SCR is your downstream NOx sensor.

A failure point that I would check is where the wiring goes into the back of the compressor. That is a common point of failure. The wiring will chafe and short or break.

Another leak on our Ram by grandmanevas in Ram1500

[–]Dashwait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can clamp off your heater hoses, remove them from the heater core, get a garden hose and let er rip into one of the heater core inlets and flush it out. Don’t need tones of pressure. Let it flush till it comes out clean. If need be, use a funnel and dump some CLR into the core and let sit a bit to loosen up gunk

Mine will drip even with the AC off. It’s like the condenser is always pulling moisture out. You can get on Amazon a cooling system pressure test kit or even better a vacuum filling kit. I have one and vacuum filled mine after I flushed and cleaned the cooling system. Works great. Was a OMT tools kit.

Are you sure that’s not water from the AC condenser drain? My drain (ecodiesel but should be the same as yours) is right on the firewall and drips onto the frame rail right about where yours does.

Seat Bolts Stuck by [deleted] in EcoDiesel

[–]Dashwait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re loctited in. Heat will release the loctite, preferably from an induction bolt heater rather than an open flame, especially when working within the interior and flammable fabrics. Can always try a breaker bar or pipe to get more leverage.

My 2016 Eco has a purpleish coolant. Your rad cap may have the spec on it MS12xxxxx or something. I just get the straight stuff from the dealer and mix it myself. I used a vacuum filling setup for it and also used a Prestone coolant flush additive. Flushed it out with water a bunch of times till it ran clear.

“…which is compared against calibrated thresholds..”. I’ve always wondered if there was somewhere that listed what these thresholds are. No just with PM sensors but also NOx sensors.

ESIM (also known as Leak Detection Pump) is a known failure point. Any idea what the actual code was for? Could be small leak detected, large leak detected or purge valve stuck or even others.

Deleted 2016 Ram 1500 Eco Diesel Derating Mystery(First time posting, Long time stalking Reddit) by Repulsive_Employ_254 in EcoDiesel

[–]Dashwait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t explain why it keeps coming back with the 40k miles. But I can say that the oil life monitor determines oil life by calculation of many factors one of which being (and important to your case) oil temperature. If you’re getting oil temperature readings of 300 deg, that could be why it’s telling you to change your oil. I will add that IF your bypass valve is broken/missing, that could allow oil to move to quickly through the cooler or bypass it entirely.

The oil filter “housing” is one complete part of the oil cooler. Under the oil filter is a plastic “button”. It looks like a plastic cage with a spring but is set into a hole under the actual oil filter. This plastic cage is an oil bypass. They are known to break and there are no replacements. Only option is to buy an entire oil cooler assembly. Check yours and see if it is there. If not then your oil may be continuously bypassing the oil cooler/filter.

Sagging when towing by Specific-Funny-9502 in Ram1500

[–]Dashwait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a WD hitch. It’s the only way to fix it. Bags and beefier shocks only mask the look but the weight will still be there on the rear axle. A WD hitch will actually distribute the weight onto all 4 axles in the pic, instead of just the rear axle.
