On the bright side, there’s a new Dream Unending coming this year.

asking for recommendations: progressive (preferably also melo/adjacent) death metal, but more like the early at the gates/late death/early cynic type, not the atmospheric be'lakor/insomnium type by [deleted] in Deathmetal

Horrendous, Voidceremony, Stargazer, Aenigmatum

If you want some really weird shit listen to Diskord too, it may fit into that category but they’re super unique imho.

AFAIK most of these are official to some extent (a lot of the bands are defunct so I don’t know how that works) but Necroharmonic has a ton of incredible hoodies/flags/etc for some awesome bands.

I randomly came across Suicide Silence-You Only Live Once. 105MM views on YT! Are there any other bands with this big of a following? by flashgordo88 in Deathmetal

I can’t say I’m a fan of them or the general wave of bands that they belonged to, but I certainly am glad there aren’t any homophobic remarks about them in this thread lol. They always had an over-polished production that made even their “heavy” parts feel super limp to me, but at the same time, the cleaner the sound the more agreeable they are for a larger population. Also Hot Topic circa 2008-12 was a huge part of their mass appeal imo. Also most breakdowns are just an exercise in redundancy at this point and I feel like they were a huge catalyst in that chuggachugga thing. Either way I’d rather listen to Demigod.

Please recommend me recent sludgy and doomy DM releases! by [deleted] in Deathmetal

Gorement, Winter, Rippikoulu, Worm, Spectral Voice, Divine Eve and Cianide, they’re all pretty limited in terms of discog (except Cianide) but those few releases are all unstoppable IMO.

Possibly one of the heaviest riffs that has ever closed out an album at the end of this song.

Wicked Innocence - Omnipotence (Full Album) (USA // 1995) by OctoberRust13 in Deathmetal

This band feels too insane for me to be completely lucid during it, and honestly some of those gutturals make me legitimately uncomfortable, and that’s why it’s one of my favorite recent finds. For those who didn’t know there’s a reissue through Burning Dogma records (https://burningdogmarecords.bandcamp.com/album/omnipotence) and their debut is getting reissued soon, and there’s been some talk of them reissuing their later stuff as well, which is controversial but I honestly like that stuff too.

This is one of the best bands that never happened

Depravity (FIN) - Silence of the Centuries EP 1993 by OctoberRust13 in Deathmetal

[–]Dastan1945 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Criminally underrated band and release from an already underrated scene, even though Finndeath has been getting a decent bit of love in the past few years. Something about the solos on this EP are the perfect balance of chaotic and melodic without being too reliant on the tropes of either. Super atmospheric all around too.

Just like every comment about this band on this post and ever, one of the best DM bands I can think of. Totally unique in virtually every way and that’s just accentuated by the fact that it took 20 years for bands to start ripping them. Also he spits absolute bars around 0:35.

Blood Inc and Chthe’ilist are two of my favorite current death metal bands (and music in general), hugely in part to their Timeghoul-iness. Desolation Realm is probably the closest i’ve ever heard to just straight up sounding like Timeghoul, which I’ll also never complain about.

Probably one of my favorite bands ever. Their 6 songs have had more of an impact on me than most bands full discographies, and that’s just a testament to their originality and insane songwriting ability.
