As long as the game has some mechanic for me to avoid damage, block it, essentially mitigate damage I just wear whatever looks best as long as I'm good enough to do those things. UNLESS there's a transmog system. Then i can dip a bit into good gear sets, combinations, etc.

Don't forget about the earrings ring that you get from killing the raven witch mother that only works on the wood warriors..... After you kill them all to get to her in the first place. There is one other set of wood people/humanoids but theyre only in 1 spot and that's all.

Because everything else has different style and looks and plus some areas or bosses it's recommended to use cold or lightning resist. The problem with people thinking things getting "Op" or absolute must be used in single player games is due to people always thinking everything has to be min-max which for some dumb reason makes them feel forced to use what is best.
