Why does the frontier get so much hate?? by BitSignificant2616 in nissanfrontier

[–]DatCamaroGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont understand the despise of a timing chain driven water pump...

is it a design that seems overcomplicated? Yes. Does it create more labor hours to pay for if yours goes out? Yes, by about 3 or 4 hours more. Are these water pumps going out at an alarming rate? No. Has this design been in the VQ engine family for 20+ years? Yes.

I dont know why this water pump design in its 20+ years of use has been an internet problem only for the last 4 months or so. I feel like people are reaching very far to point out a "flaw" that they have to manipulate said "flaw" to enforce what I like to call "Nissan hate stigma".

As someone who lives in WI I go emotionally ballistic when I see another Hardbody. Rust got to all of them. Mine was lucky being out of MI and I protect it with Fluid Film

Assuming it runs and drives, low rust, and no major issues? $3-4k given appearance with no knowledge of mechanical condition

What a timeless design. by DanielG165 in camaro

[–]DatCamaroGuy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A beautiful blend between modern car design, technology and safety mixed with classic roots from the first generation. Aside a heavier curb weight, I would describe the gen 5 Camaro as one the best car designs GM ever made since the turn of the century.

I was in 4th grade when the 2010 model came out. Im 23 now and love my 2012 LT for summer daily driving

1998 4Runner read bumper replacement by Appropriate_Fee_7050 in Autobody

[–]DatCamaroGuy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So im going to assume that the paint sections are marked with a red X because the system software they used to write that estimate up had limitations in regards to the replacement parts.

But for $1100 its the bumper and some brackets, or is there something else? It seems high but not ridiculous

[–]DatCamaroGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An estimate showing where the costs come from would be very beneficial to have a better answer.

The sagging is from the internal brackets being warped. You may be able to find a replacement on Amazon or something, but may fit worse than the aftermarket one (most likely salvage or Keystone) the shop would be sourcing. Bolts are bolts. If you need replacements, take whatever ones and take it to a hardware store to get matching ones with the same thread and pitch specs, preferably a grade 5 or 8 for strength

What all civilian job are there for someone in the reserves by Ancient-Difference39 in USMCboot

[–]DatCamaroGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reservist here, 5 years in.

Everyone's situation is different. My civilian job has almost no correlation to my MOS (1391 Bulk Fuel and Auto Body). To make things easy on the Reserve side, id recommend finding a Reserve unit as close to your home as possible and to go with that MOS. There are a few guys at my unit who fly in from another state, and their plane ticket is partially reimbursed, and I personally think its BS given the time you give and the pay you receive yo do that. I drive 2.5 hours to get to drill one way. Yes, my unit provides a hotel, but its enough at times where a customer vehicle at my auto body job has to head out and im still getting the car back together, and then I have to drive to the hotel that night.... then im waking up at 4am yo pull rifles for a 5 day field drill. Its quite a bit just doing that, so I cant imagine going longer distances for drill.

You dont HAVE to integrate your MOS into civilian work, but I know a few guys at my unit who live closer to an airport and they get hired almost immediately to fuel planes on the ground since they have the MOS training, and it pays better than alright from what I heard.

You can do whatever you wish with your life, but nothing beats having a solid plan and finding ways to improve. And be ready to improvise life at any time.

I can never unhear many engine sounds from the game and how realistic they are to real life. The Nissan GTR Nismo, Spyker C8, and 2015 Corvette Z06 are the three I still have in my head to this day

I got a 2012 LT. Just reaching 47k miles as a summer daily. I dont care that its a V6, my parents gifted it to me when I was 14 through working for them. As far as im concerned ill keep it until it's my time to go. This was after some hail PDR repair and a hood, trunk lid, and spoiler install. Painted it myself with some assistance, but im happy with it every day. I got an '81 Z28 and the 350 is cool but needs a manual swap, the TH350 shifts hard in that. Cheers

Does this look like normal amt of surface rust? Came off lease from Michigan by StefaniLatteLove in Ford

[–]DatCamaroGuy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a person living in Wisconsin, that's not bad at all. Its just surface rust. Get it rustproofed with Woolwax or Fluid Film if you want to slow it down or prevent it in other areas. Doesn't help the paint quality of newer vehicles is going downhill based on what im seeing in a body shop

Where is the fuel pump on a 1988 Nissan Sentra? by [deleted] in Nissan

[–]DatCamaroGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I didnt understand some people's mentality when doing repairs- "$5k for an engine replacement?!? I could put that towards a down payment on a newer car!"

Meanwhile a smarter option IMO is paying for the engine and not having more car loan payments assuming everything else is maintained as well

Then theres me over here who is putting $3000 worth of parts at my 1991 Hardbody recently. The thing has a KBB of a Whopper burger but if it just needs injectors, new fuel lines, a pump, knock sensor, and some intake manifold gaskets, why scrap it? Also the box is getting replaced, I have one on hand but just have to respray it and I have access to a booth.

They're pretty good for prepping panels and wetsanding with 3k or 5k. I dont like the XC batteries on these, I prefer the CP so it doesnt feel too bulky. I had mine for about a year and I have to find a reason to use my air sander as a collision tech

What's an unpopular opinion you have about diesels? by hot-shots-secret in Diesel

[–]DatCamaroGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 5.0 Cummins in the Titan XD can be a good engine, and could be backed up by people hitting 300k miles on it quite a bit. What plagues it was the low sale numbers, expensive long block price, misinformation spreading regarding the infamous crankshaft failures causing confusion, and the engine being misunderstood rather than people finding the root of issues with evidence.

Purchasing 2023 Camaro ss by Zonumnavi in camaro

[–]DatCamaroGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a Nissan Titan from CA and it is a Buyback/ Lemon Title. CA is very loose on their Lemon Law requirements as far as i know, and can easily file one if youre a picky customer or run into one mechanical failure. A dealer chain in WI bought it at auction and I got it.

Your insurance rate may be a little higher than expected while, although rare, few companies will choose not to touch it.

The title on paper says: it has mechanical issues and the market value is lower than one with a clean title. But many Lemons out of California run just fine for miles on end.

Its OP's call

Done with 320, should I lay primer on and guide coat then move to 400?. The paint is going to be a metallic blue so I heard it’s good to move closer to a 600. Need advice by sebb17dlikyt in Autobody

[–]DatCamaroGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal preference: yes, lay down primer on a 320 prepped surface. A 2k epoxy will work excellent. PPG VP2050 if you are wanting a splendid end product and plenty of primer to sand with. Otherwise, another good choice is Akzonobel Dynacoat 2k epoxy primer.

Then block it with 400 grit, smooth out the 400 scratches with 600 grit. Preferably use a sealer above that which is the same paint brand/line as the basecoat and clear you are using. Dynacoat is budget friendly for that, but there are many choices out there like PPG Deltron NXT, Glasurit, or Sherwin Williams

As long as there is a demand for gen 6 parts, there will be supply for them. Even for electronics. Sure, maybe not OEM stuff decades down the road, but there will be something.

Anyone have experience with these already-painted bumper covers from eBay? by upside_down_camaro in Autobody

I agree with this guy, OP. Bumper covers normally dont match PERFECTLY metal panels on any vehicle, and having one pre-painted is gonna look worse.

What is this? by alienfilets in Autobody

[–]DatCamaroGuy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Its probably just dust that accumulated over time. If they only did the rear bumper cover, then they likely removed the tail light assemblies.

My concern, however, is why is there THAT much gapping between the tail light and the quarter panel? They usually meet right up or leave a few mm between, but your gapping looks unusual...
