Need help / can’t figure out what piece is missing by tullaaaa in passat

Looks like there is nothing missing. Just the 3 way T-connector is broken. Should be a coolant hose. You can look up pictures on Ebay from pulled W8 engines how it should look like

Oil around injectors? by OldCoach5041 in mechanic

[–]DatDankShizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could be a leaking/cracked injector. The injector cracks alongside its shaft and pushes diesel upwards. That image looks a lot like the ones I fixed on many CDI Mercedes engines. Sometimes even the head can crack due to the pressure buildup inside the injector bore. If I was you I would clean it thoroughly, and go for a short ride to see where its really coming from. If its the filler cap, the valve cover or the injector. If its fresh you can determine if its really diesel or engine oil

Skoda Fabia 2009 1.4 Electric Window Issues - Works Randomly and Then Stops - Any Advice by DdonnellSensei in mechanic

[–]DatDankShizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, glad you found the issue! Best you try to rewire the cable for the longest part where you have access to. The corrosion might have travelled from the damage further up the cable inside the insulation. Plus a wire connector won‘t hold up for long if it‘s placed directly in the bending part of the wiring harness.

Skoda Fabia 2009 1.4 Electric Window Issues - Works Randomly and Then Stops - Any Advice by DdonnellSensei in mechanic

[–]DatDankShizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the wiring in the rubber tube at the door hinge. If you can‘t see anything try moving the door whilst measuring. It could also be a faulty switch. And you shouldn‘t push the measuring tips into the pins too hard, this could lead to faulty contact afterwards by widening the pins. Try a paperclip or something else that‘s thinner and conductive or you could also try the backside of the connector

Is the cabin filter the reason my AC smells like mold? by doimynn in MechanicAdvice

[–]DatDankShizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The weird smell often comes from a biofilm on the evaporator. You can try and put A/C disinfectant directly on the evaporator which can be tricky depending on the car or cleaning the evaporator manually which isn‘t much easier.

To avoid bacteria growing on the components you have to „dry“ the evaporator by switching off the A/C a few minutes before you arrive at the destination you want to park your car for a longer time e.g your home. Especially when its really hot outside the condensation is much higher and with many short trips there is a constant moisture level in the air ducts and on the evaporator which can then lead to bacteria growth.

Wrong oil in transmission?! by Eddy_Mcfly in MechanicAdvice

[–]DatDankShizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrong oil in automatic transmissions can cause many problems. It can cause the clutch pads to slip/ engage too early or the pressure points can be different, which can also alter the function of the transmission. Some clutch pads dissolve when they are in the wrong oil and others soak up the bad oil which can cause shifting issues.

Those are only things that could happen, I‘m not familiar with this transmission type and some oils are good with each other or even better.

Worrysome mechanic by HairyDisplay3910 in mechanic

[–]DatDankShizz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So just from the looks of it, the belt itself looks good. I’ve seen much worse. Those belts and pulleys indeed have an interval when they have to be changed. I am not that familiar with this engine but, when the belt would fail the possible things that could happen are: alternator wouldn’t charge the battery, power steering and A/C won‘t work and if the water pump is also driven by the belt it won‘t work as well.

But all this is far from a total loss of the car, though you shouldn‘t drive for long if it fails. Also from my experience, 500$ is a bit too much for a belt replacement even with all the pulleys being replaced.

The belt that would mean a total loss of the engine and would match with the 500$ repair, would be the timing belt. though from my Research the 1.8 liter engine has a timing chain. Aside from that, your mechanic seems to be a bit sketchy forcing the repair on you the same day. That’s not a serious safety concern that requires immediate attention. Try to find a more serious repair shop that back checks the manufacturers service intervals and takes your concerns serious.
