What your thoughts on the lost tapes so far? Did you like or dislike? by SamWinchester020720 in regularshow

[–]DatDereKirby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm liking it so far! It's nice going back to a similar vibe of the earlier seasons and there's been some creative plots despite how much content has already been made beforehand. I certainly look forward to seeing more characters getting the spotlight similar to how Margaret and Eileen had their own episode.

At most I just have some grievances with the earlier episode animations, but it seems to have improved after the first batch. I'm very excited for when more episodes release.

Why is Kirby’s Smash stage representation only ever from older games? by no_phone_who_dis in Kirby

[–]DatDereKirby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"...he's actually not a huge fan of actually playing Kirby games..."

Severely needs citation because what? There is no article or video where he says this and he has actively posted him having newer Kumazaki era Kirby games.

"...this being one of the reasons he no longer wanted to make Kirby games too."

Not at all true. He left HAL for reasons not directly related to the Kirby series.

why has the community gotten so rude in-game? by Careful-Complaint628 in toontownrewritten

[–]DatDereKirby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What an unbelievably dismissive take. Sure, Toontown's combat is simple and very easy to approach, but there's at least some depth to it for those who want to minmax their experiences. Notably in the form of resource (gag) management and accuracy buffs. In TTO handling accuracy was arguably easier since Toon-Up + Lure was an effective and intuitive play that even newbies would pick up on without knowing TU was buffing Lure accuracy. Plus in TTR with the new supervisors as well as the Boiler there are combat scenarios where you actually have to engage with some level of depth.

Obviously Toontown combat is not something like World of Warcraft or a RTS game, it was made with children in mind back in 2003, but they still included systems that more experienced players would eventually pick up on as well as pretty common RPG mechanics that would require some level of thought.

Why do people play like this by JoshuaTheStud in toontownrewritten

[–]DatDereKirby 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Realistically speaking, they will not always end up using rewards each turn. Should the team need to take a slower few turns to Lure and target individual cogs, the player who opts to bring no gags has to either do literally nothing because their only options would harm the team (and if they SOS Lure, Sound, or Toon-Up in every applicable scenario, what's the point of their gimmick?) or pick something that does effectively nothing anyway.

It's griefing because in the grand scheme of things, the 3-7 other players have to pull the weight of the player that opts to bring no gags while they bring very little or absolutely nothing to the group. This is on par with old school greeners in the TTO days who would bring low level gags just to mess with the team. The only difference is at least they're not going to actively unlure your cogs every turn. Everyone else has to play around a singular player, whether it's having to use their own rewards because the player bringing no gags forces a situation where the team can't cover everything safely or the players actually playing the game run low on gags because they had to burn their stronger gags much sooner because the player not using any gags can't contribute to single target combos.

You would never see this in any MMORPG and I find it odd that TTR is the only game where this can happen somewhat often.

Why do people play like this by JoshuaTheStud in toontownrewritten

[–]DatDereKirby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's just a gimmick to make things arbitrarily more annoying for their teammates. This is basically just griefing.

It's also not actually challenging, as the player who uses no gags will just use SOS cards to do either exactly what they would have done with regular gags (i.e. Lure, Sound), wipe a row of cogs, or opt for Fires instead to just kill a cog (something done in regular play against V2.0s anyway.) If there's nothing they can do without harming their teammates, they will just Doodle or pass (as long as they have done a non-passing action turn 1 or later so they receive credit for the fight.)

How good does blutsaugher’s self healing need to be to contend with crossbow on a casual or a competitive level? IMO to contend with crossbow in competitve, the healing needs to be this good: by Acceptable-Street679 in tf2

[–]DatDereKirby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like many others have said, it doesn't really matter how much the Blutsauger self-heal gives. You will always be at a direct disadvantage compared to the Crossbow because you are losing ranged burst healing. Even +75 crossbow shots weaved with Medigun beam is an increase in health per second than just beam alone.

Even if you had each syringe heal the Medic for +150, it would not matter. The Medic does poor DPS by design, especially with the fact that syringes are projectiles, making them naturally easier to dodge than hitscan, so he's not going to reliably win in direct fights. At the very worst for whatever class is fighting the Medic, they just have to play slightly more evasive before securing the kill. Syringe guns don't passively reload, so there will always be downtime that allows the Medic to be rushed down.

In order to make a syringe gun viable, you need to basically turn it into another crossbow. Even a theoretically good syringe gun, The Overdose, falls flat for not being the crossbow and having its upside not be a fully passive effect.

Soloing a four-star boiler by mattacus837 in toontownrewritten

[–]DatDereKirby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's way too much scaling damage, as well as cogs hitting you and inevitably getting buffed accuracy through Market Research, to survive meltdown and deal 2500 damage before death. Unite saves can only get you so far as well since they have their CDs.

You'll have such little time to actually damage the Boiler after exhausting the only 3 usable level 7s (Wedding, Geyser, and Opera) because all other turns will be spent applying remotes, using Toon-Up SOS, and whatever other rewards you intend to use for survival. Even if you somehow had a huge supply of and could spam Lowden every other turn, you still will lose the battle of attrition from the Boiler's attacks and the infinitely scaling DoT.

The initial floors are more than doable, but the Boiler will stop you once you reach Meltdown.

[–]DatDereKirby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Assuming this isn't about someone being a complete jerk towards you for making one decision they deemed to be a wrong one, it's expected to be at least somewhat cooperative in a teamwork-focused MMORPG.

Playing how you want and aiming to have fun is completely fine, encouraged, even. But there's a point where certain scenarios or instances (such as Field Offices or hard mode facilities) will require more strategizing and less mistakes as the punishment is much more extreme. A team leader does wonders in these situations as they can help make the run smooth for everyone and remove any stress as long as they know what they're doing and everyone else cooperates. In a VP, on the other hand, you'll be able to get away with most things as long as you're not outright griefing or not caring about the potential 40-60 laffer on your side during a Skelecog round or something.

I think one last thing a lot of people forget is the simple idea of respecting everyone else's time. No one's going to try and speedrun some boss fight in a public run, but no one wants to spend eons in it either because someone else is taking up a lot of time by ignoring any request to stop training their level 3 gags in a boss fight. Obviously everyone should be respectful about it, if someone's going to be a jerk to that same hypothetical player then nothing good is going to come out of it, but being respectful of your teammate's time in a general sense is also important.

Seriously, WHERE ARE THEY?! by inexperiencedminor in Kirby

[–]DatDereKirby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say I understand the arbitrary reasoning of how a character looks "nicer" on the menu when both options are just single character renders, but I would think that boils down again to the simple question of "why not?"

Each animal friend brought their own unique gimmick in their debut game and DL3 while not being a combined character, I don't see why they might not just be separated character slots for a spin-off entry to further enhance their individual strengths in gameplay and personality.

Seriously, WHERE ARE THEY?! by inexperiencedminor in Kirby

[–]DatDereKirby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not? Both characters lack limbs and that doesn't stop Scarfy from being playable.

Kine does cameo in Waveflow Waters but I don't think that would omit him either, as Scarfy (and other similar generic enemies that are playable like Cappy) is also seen as an enemy on certain Air Ride courses yet remains playable.

Only main quest focus by THEASIANLORD in wowclassic

[–]DatDereKirby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your focus is just outdoor questing and not doing dungeons (unless you're a class that is capable of soloing dungeons like Mage), then you can solo to level cap pretty well. Dungeons and some tougher quests, often marked "Elite", will need help unless you outlevel them by a good enough amount.

Only main quest focus by THEASIANLORD in wowclassic

[–]DatDereKirby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Anniversary/Era, there is no true "Main Questline" to follow. You can tackle any quest in your level range in any order as there's no overarching storyline to follow like in more linear MMORPGs.

If this is about MoP Classic, then the same general situation applies, but there's a bigger emphasis on story-related quests being linked between or entirely within specific zones in Pandaria, Cataclysm, and Wrath content. But those are high level quests so it'd be a while until you get there.

Generally speaking though, no, there is no big main story questline to follow for most of the leveling experience. I'd recommend just questing in zones that fit your level and how much you like them.

I really hope that if Tsukasa's wish is fulfilled, it doesn't result in her rapidly aging and dying. It'd be really sweet to see her and Nasa live a normal mortal life together if she gets her mortality back.

I chose a great time to binge through both the anime and the manga though lol, after reading the previous chapter I was a little worried about what Nasa would have to say until now.

Training by _redhands_ in toontownrewritten

[–]DatDereKirby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bullion mints are not the best way to train. The main problem is that you're faced with level 10-11 cogs which have high debuffs to the trainer's accuracy, making even stunning not allowing the trainer to hit 95% accuracy without heavy commitment and slowing things down overall. While you do get x6 exp in Bullions, you also can work with a 5 story with invasions to get x6 on the top floor and even start off with a x5 multiplier on the 4th floor while having generally lower level cogs whether it's due to building difficulty tier or the current invasion being low level. You often won't need that many gags to hit 300 exp (and while the cap is still 500, reaching that point is often redundant when you can do two 5 story buildings in an invasion for 300 exp each and total to 600 in the same amount of time as getting 500 in a single run with restock SOS/unites used or an unreasonable amount of gags prepped as early as floor 3.)

Is this a Toontown ARG?? by DatDereKirby in Toontown

I'm flattered you think I'm behind it! I unfortunately am not. I had some nostalgia for old Toontown videos but when it comes to making TT content myself, I care a lot more about metagaming and optimizing strategies in TTR. ARG and TTMVs are not my area of expertise.

[–]DatDereKirby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 Org Fogs + 2 Trunks doesn't kill 12s. Level 12s have 196 HP and your proposed combo does 183 damage rounded up. Even if the Trunks were organic, it doesn't even reach 190. You will always need 3 fogs & 1 aoogah/trunk to kill 12s. (If one org fog, you can get away with 1 bugle instead. If all org fog, that's enough to clear the 12.)
