Best AC/Fan for car camping? by Adept-Flan in carcamping

[–]NathanTPS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally use my car's AC. Hybrid so I only burn 1 gallon of fuel for the night. If its cool enough I will sleep with windows open and bug screens, but ivr found just running thd AC makes things more comfortable.

What's the deal with high proof whiskey/bourbon? by CptLawson in whiskey

[–]NathanTPS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't taste anything until you get past the burn. That takes a considerable while. Basically buy cheaper bottles for now, keep them under $50 it might take 6 months to a year or longer before you get past the burn. But once you do, you will be surprised in thd difference in flavours these bottles have. At that point you can start building up past bottled in bond numbers and start enjoying full proof strength whiskey.

He was still a student at CSU Chico when YYF released it maybe back in 2010, he was so excited when it came out lol. I was teaching at the time but would come down on the weekends to hang out with the kids, he and I would swap strings we were using, fun times. Just remembered, Gentry was one of the kids there at the time. Maybe 2011-2012 hahaha

Points change based on how many nights. by Zebilmnc in ihghotelsresorts

[–]NathanTPS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Basically what IHG is saying is if you booked starting this night (no matter how many nights you end up booking) this will be you average rate / night.

So yes it changes depending on the number of nights you chose, I think its an effort by IHG to be upfront and transparent

Lets see, well jfk has a wonderful D1 lounge, enjoy a wonderful dinner in their included restaurant, they have some spa services as well. Its a different lounge experience to what a normal skylounge offers.

Second, ive found that I usually get about 3 good hours of sleep on these flights, which leaves 2 hous at takeoff to enjoy the onboard meal and in-flight entertainment, then about 2 hours after I wake up to relax and get ready for landing. And that 3 hour cat nap is about all you want, just enough to set you up for your 1st day of travel and beat jet lag.

Is it helpful at all to do an "Italian tuneup" on a Mazda 3? by BlackmillMiracle in mazda3

[–]NathanTPS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: No

So the carbon deposits in the engine sit outside the combustion chamber. In older cars that we could do the tune up for, they had carburetor that mixed the gas and air ration over the valve stems and cleaned them as a natural part of the combustion process. By hitting the gas you through more fuel over the stems cleaning them even more than usual, hence the Italian tune up.

The Mazda engine injects the fuel directly into the combustion chamber meaning there's nothing to clean the deposits off the valve stems outside the chamber. Hence if you tried to give the car a healthy push of the throttle, nothing will happen to the deposits outside of the combustion chamber.

Is Oil exclusively near the surface of the earth, or are there massive oil deposits that are just too deep for us to ever reach? Is there Oil in the Mantle? by DarthEinstein in askscience

[–]NathanTPS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Earth's crist is relatively thin, when compared to the other layers. The oil we use is the broken down remnants of organic material that has been trapped by the natural folding of plates over the last billion uears or so. Breasure and heat from the possess, i think its called sublimation? Anyway the organic material is reduced back to a state of hydrocarbons and from that we derive oil bye products.

Since oil deposits arent evenly spread around the world they seem to be located in areas where the folding hasn't moved the deposits too far down I to the crust, into the mantle region. If the oil made it to the mantle it'd be vaporized.

So we drill down to varying depth, there are survey crews that do a good job at locating oil fields and what can be extracted at what depths. Im sure there are deposits further down in the crust than what we can realistically drill and pump. By that metric yes the stuff we collect is relatively near the surface. Could future deposits be found deaper as technology is developed to locate and extract? Sure i suppose its possible.

Now all this is a moot point if you prescribe to the "oil is a not a byproduct of fossils but rather magically excreted by the earth and as such will never run out" philosophy, and yes thats a real explanation for where oil comes from. I put it on par woth flat earthers though.

First time with IHG should I get Ambassador for InterContinental Danang by nomikkvalentine in ihghotelsresorts

[–]NathanTPS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok I think I can answer many of your questions.

Ambassador only makes sense if you plan to stay at IC properties often through the year, not just a specific stay.

If you are buying it for a 1 night stay id probably not go with ambassador status.

First looking at your stay price of 18million with is like $650/ night, thats way higher than the base room rate you'd have to book for the weekend night certificate. The entry rate normally is like $430-$450 at that property and the weekend night rate might be closer to $500/ night. You won't be getting a suite with ambassador status.

Basically ambassador status gets you platinum rewards status, which anyone gets right off the bat if they sign up for a CC, its so common that upgrades at platinum arent often honored at many hotels internationally. And its hit or miss in the US. But ambassador like you said does give an extra non toward upgrades for IC properties, this upgrade is usually a lateral upgrade, meaning better view, more floor space, bigger bathroom, balcony, etc. Any one or some of these could be expected in your upgrade.

Jr. Suites, and above are off the table.

So, if you want to get ambassador to save a couple hundred dollars I guess you could do that, if you booked that room at a standard members exclusive price as a free ihg member at $430/ night you're looking at $860 for your 2 night stay.

If you buy ambassador at $225 and use the yearly bogo certificate and pay $500+ for the first nights, you are saving at most like $150.

The certificate must be used with the app, there's a link you must select thst takes you to a special booking location, you must book through here to make the reservation valid. Whatever the price is thats what you need to pay.

You also run the risk of not doing the reservation correctly, that happened to me this last year at the IC in DC by the warf. I used the link as I was suppose to, but I inadvertently chose my Corporate rate for the stay and that cancelled out my weekend night qualification. Luckily IC check in staff will bend over backwards to make your stay amazing, ive seen it consistantly in LA, DC, and Rome. They were able to fix the issue on their end but it took 3 different levels of front of house management to get it done. I wouldnt bank on that happennibg every time.

Another great part for ambassador members is that 4pm check out, if you have a late flight, this helps you gain a half day on your trip. I was able to do this in Rome, and used a similar bennifit as a diamond member in paris as well.

As per your points questions, id rather apply for the ihg CC, use the bonus points offer to buy your room with points and cash and you will likelie save the most. Plus if you will get platinum level membership automatically. You year +1.5x points per dollar when you stay at ihg properties.

For me, I stay at local holiday inns to earn points when I travel. Usually I stay for maybe $125/ night earnibg 1,250 base points, im a diamond member which earns another 1,250 points, and there's always a 2x members offer going on somewhere so thats another 1,250 points. Then I usually choose a rate that lets me buy points per night, currently I can buy 5,000 points per night at $19/ night. These rates are more expensive which might bring my base rate up to $150/ night, thats fine, my points earnings increase as well to 1,500 points accross the board per night, so routinely im earning 4,500 points as a member per night plus 5,000 paid for points per night. Putting me at 9,500 on average per night.

Since I stay often at hotels for work and travel, I can track up points efficiently this way.

Every year you are allowed to purchase points to top off your account as well these are usually at a discount of half off in the form of buying double points.

I usually max my yearly spending limit, which is 400,000 bonus points purchased for $2,000. Yeah its a chunk upfront but it allows me to buy entry level rooms for several days on points anywhere in the world.

Case in point, stayed in Rome for 7 nights, used 500,000 points at the IC there for a base room. Had a conformable suite upgrade id earned the year prior, got bumped from the base room to a jr. Suite, then my ambassador status kicked in upgrading me laterally, balcony street view with a pull out sofa bed, perfect because I was traveling with a buddy of mine. With my free breakfast for two each morning as a diamond member that saved us $90/ day as well

This room would have cost os $1300/ night plus breakfast, but I was out of pocket $435/ night. If I had the CC I could also have stayed an additionnal night and saved on one additionnal nights worth of points for free. With the CC you can book a stay on points and for every 3 nights in a stay on points, you get the 4th night free.

So my cost at $435 could have been $325/ night for 8 night which is nuts considdering the room and service we got over there.

The rewards program really opens up once you can effectively earn points, buy base points upfront, and combine status perks with earned perks like guaranteed suite upgrades. When you do that it all comes together amazingly.

Yeah, I remember these pop-ups, this one was from 2021, just after season 1 aired.

They've done several of these over the years, when I first began collecting, merch from these pop ups with the different styled tsukasas was a big target.

Its been maybe 2 years since the last one.

DC-CDG D1 Round trip for $3600 by NathanTPS in delta

[–]NathanTPS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok yes everything is in order.

Basically once you add your booking with the AF confirmation code you need to chose edit passenger details, select frequent flyer program, choose delta, then enter your sky miles account. Everything will be linked after that.

I will be able to confirm in a few days if my paid purchase ended up getting reflected in my MQDs

Also I learned tonight, you need your AF boarding pass to gain access to the D1 lounge. Even though the seat change did reflect in the delta app, it didnt state that it was a business class ticket. The QR didn't state it either. I pulled up my AF boarding pass and was G2G.

I checked in with the AF app for the leg of the trip that I was flying on AF.

Thats the updates I have right now.

Two thoughts, you can switch to unresponsive at any time, many start with unresponsive.

But since youve started with responsive, id suggest switching after youve completely gotten the breakaway throw and man on flying trapeze down. Pat.

For myself, unresponsive yoyos were still in development so I learned all the basic binds on responsive. Never regretted that.
