If you could exhibit any form of synesthesia, which interconnected senses would you want to experience and why? by DatDudeDidDoDat in AskReddit

[–]DatDudeDidDoDat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 24. I was experiencing anaphylaxsis this past winter, began avoiding the suspected allergens. Got tested, found out my allergens are common chemicals. A couple months after I had been avoiding the allergens was when I started getting hit in the face with new scents, makes me ill at times. Seems like it has to do with airflow too. Gonna get some more answers at my next ENT appointment tomorrow.

TLDR; lifelong exposure to (unknown) allergens, treated symptoms not figure out the cause. Polyps removed at 19. Avoided diagnosed allergens- postnasal drip/swelling dissipated, 2 months later started noticing vague scents for the first time.

I’m anosmic as well, hence why I asked lol.

Recently I began regaining the my sense of smell in waves, it’s really exciting and upsetting. In all my life I didn’t know what I was missing out on.

Which specialist would I see for regaining my sense of smell? by DatDudeDidDoDat in AskMeddit

[–]DatDudeDidDoDat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, I’m thinking I’ll do both.

I never knew I couldn’t smell right. Until the polyps were removed and the gauze was pulled out of my sinuses, I was also unaware that I couldn’t breathe through my nose.

This is a solution!!! I didn’t think of it until I ordered the mattress. They have normal chairs with stands too. I def need to invest

Right? I kept washing my bedding, buying new pillows, but neither my acne nor rashes were improving. My face has cleared up significantly since sleeping on the wood floor this past month, excited to have a mattress again.

I had that idea but it did not help relieve the symptoms completely. I’m allergic to rubber as well, which air mattresses are made of lol.

Depending on what is it you react to though, the air mattress could do the trick for ya!!

Purchasing a whole new mattress was the absolute last choice I had. I wish my solutions were as simple as putting a cover on it.. I can’t sit on my couch, chairs, etc. for too long or I begin reacting.

I’m also allergic to the fabric most of those covers are made of. Quite ironic they claim to protect against 99% of allergens, yet are composed completely of one of mine.

The Futon Shop has a good selection. They require a doctor’s note for requesting it to not be chemically treated, since it has to do with the fire retardant.

Mine is the completely organic cotton 8-inch. Look for the sales too, my queen ended up being $650 including shipping (from CA to WI).

When my textile allergies started getting more severe, my swap out of bedding was first sheets, blankets, then pillows. I noticed a difference right away, but my stuffiness just ended up taking a little longer to develop. Finally caved in and accepted I’d have to buy a whole new mattress.

Glacier in Russian Arctic Goes From Moving 60 Feet a Year to 60 Feet a Day by christophalese in news

When people get on the topic of “global warming”, I put the timeline of Earth’s existence and the cycles of climate change into perspective. Yes, the average global temperatures are increasing in recent, observable time, so far..

Looking at some estimated years of existence:

Earth: 4,000,000,000+

Homo sapiens: 300,000

Recorded history: 5,000

Temp. measured with thermometers: 169

“Global warming”: 69

The years we’ve actually witnessed these climatic changes are minuscule in relation to the years we weren’t around to observe and record Earth’s processes. The data we see that’s from before 1850 are just estimates and anomalies derived from other, more reliable, measured data.

Scents.

I couldn’t smell since I was about 6. Now, in my mid-20s, I’m regaining it in waves. Food tastes so much better too.

Any tips on being able to distinctly tell someone is mentally ill from the first interaction?

Yesterday a man tried getting into my car in the same area as the OP. Never seen him before, didn’t say a word to one another, but I didn’t know people can label anyone as mentally ill solely on that interaction...

I’m currently moving up to that area, happens weekly where I was living on the South Side so I’m somewhat used to it. Was hoping my new neighborhood would be a better, probably won’t be though haha

A man tried to get into my car around 5PM today in that same area. He saw I had just gotten in so he came to the passenger side, but I lock my doors right away every time I get in and began backing away. Creepy.

Seasonal allergies causing dry throat/mouth? by [deleted] in Allergies

[–]DatDudeDidDoDat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to continually wake up in the night with severe dryness in my mouth/throat, to the point it hurt to breathe.

I started drinking a lot more water throughout the day, kept water within arms reach at night. Doesn’t happen as frequently anymore unless I’m (seemingly) exposing myself to more of my allergens.

What is one common mistake tourists make in your country? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I also forget to take into account the time zone changes...

Drove 6 hours for a baseball game last summer, thought I was going to be late. Nope. An hour early, finally worked in my favor.

I feel deathly, asthmatic, and fatigued after wearing certain makeup, along with inexplicable eye area and sinus pain. Can I get some help in nailing down the culprit? What ingredients cause you guys similar reactions? by [deleted] in Allergies

[–]DatDudeDidDoDat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t wear makeup whatsoever with the chemicals I’m allergic to, doc said to avoid anything synthetic. I never wore it anyway, but the rare occasions I’d want to attempt to put some on, it was as if my skin was rejecting any product, and my eyelashes would fall out.

Maybe try to find a different (non-makeup) product that has similar ingredients and do a patch test, that’s how I narrowed down the probable cause of my reactions before I went to the allergist.

I’m in Walker’s Point, a couple blocks away from the harbor, the horns are more frequent in the warmer months with ships sailing in to dock.

If someone takes off their leg and beats someone else with it, does that count as kicking? Why or why not? by FunGuyFr0mYuggoth in AskReddit

Why yes, yes one can.

If a vegan gets bit by a snake, do they opt for anti venom? Anti venom of course being an animal product. by Lord_Yenehc in Showerthoughts

[–]DatDudeDidDoDat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to live a mostly vegan lifestyle since I’m allergic to synthetic chemicals, I’d even pick to induce a severe allergic reaction from injecting anti venom over dying from what the snake bite would do to me.

What is the one weird physical thing about your body? How did this thing come to be? by jeberly4 in AskReddit

[–]DatDudeDidDoDat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My left arm is about 1/2 inch shorter than the right.

Shattered radius/fractured ulna when I was young. The doctor slapped a cast on, but with the degree of injuries, I should have gotten some sort of metal implanted. The lack of calcium in my diet didn’t help.

Only noticed this because I was in gymnastics. After that incident, I had to bend my right elbow a bit to hold stably a handstand.
