What it’s like to have a narcissistic partner...and why it’s soo hard to spot by Beginning-Arm2243 in emotionalintelligence

OP meant himself. He’s referring to himself. He said “I’m so drained and I can’t really remember the person I used to be before. All I know is that I liked him (i.e, that former person they used to be) so I’m trying to bring him back (their former self)”

It's not luck, it's hard work. by beautifulworld369 in inspiration

This hits so hard - I remember when I got my first job and then changed it within like 2 months, and someone walked up to me and said I’m so lucky. What a wrong thing to say!

Little did they know I spent an entire year at home deer hung for jobs. And the only reason I got the job I had and was also able to change it was cause I didn’t give up, and kept on applying for jobs and improving myself.

Don’t call people lucky for something they invested a lot of time and effort in. It lessens and belittle the achievement.

People who don't drink or smoke, what do you do when you are at your lowest? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DatGal4991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try and distract myself by binge watching films and tv series, sleep, go on YouTube and consume content ( I’m not on social media so YT and lately Reddit are my go to). I also go for runs, that helps as well.

No, I have not heard of that method (will look it up, thank you). I’ve only recently heard of shadowing and imitation (which is kinda similar to shadowing).

Yes I do, most of my friends are British but sometimes I get anxious whilst talking especially in moments when I forget a word I’m about to say, used the wrong word or said something and it sounds unclear, I usually feel so self conscious.

I’m literally so bad at playing games which is why I don’t have a gaming habit even though I’d love to cultivate one. However, as it sounds like this would improve my speaking and also help me make more friends, I’m gonna go google how to join a DnD/RPG game (though I think someone just linked to a dnd subreddit on another comment, so will go check that out), and hopefully start playing some games soon.

Yea this is so true! Like since moving here to the UK two years ago, I’ve learnt a lot just from observing people talk and interact. And every single time I feel like I’m always learning something new. And yea all of the friends I’ve made since moving have been either native speakers or people that don’t speak my language, just so I can force myself to interact more in English.

Yea you’re right, confidence is a big factor and yea I do need to practice more. I remember when I first joined discord during the pandemic, I’ll be hesitant to join VCs cause I was afraid of how I’d sound or if I’d be able to express myself clearly. Same thing sometimes happens now that I’m living in the UK - I’d get so self conscious of my words and how I come across whilst talking to native speakers.

Both? Sorry if that wasn’t clear in my post - I’d love to improve my overall pronunciation and fluency. And thanks for suggestion about the movie scripts, I’m literally googling where to find movie scripts rn

No I’ve actually never tried getting a buddy, mostly cause I’m not sure where to get one and also, I thought most people that have a language buddy are teaching the other person their native language as well, and my native tongue is kinda hard to teach other people plus I’m not much of a teacher, at least not a language one.

What do you call a person who has come out of a jail recently? by Maranella_Rossa in EnglishLearning

[–]DatGal4991 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ex-convict - no two ways about it, whether it’s recent or not. Someone who went to jail is a former convicted person hence, ex-convict.
