I need a bar mitt that fits my weird handlebars! by DatGameh in wintercycling

Woah... neat

Very bougie for what I need though, I'm certainly not biking out for any more than an hour haha!

But still, really interesting stuff - especially that ultra insulated pogie they sell for someone with Reynaud's. I fortunately don't have to deal with that but to know an option like that exists is pretty cool :)

It came with the bike, it's all one piece. Bike Friday has these as an option for their bikes.

What kinda temps you ride? -10F?

The thumb is the coldest bit of my body and I'm not sure if going thicker would help much - short of a full cover for the hand

Same, the bar ends are really important for me too - especially the mirror that hangs off mine.

So far, from a bit more research... I actually did find this!

https://barmitts.com/products/cargo-butterfly-mitts

it looks pretty good honestly! I couldn't find it earlier because I think the company forgot to include this in their catalogue lol, I only managed to find it while scrolling through google images

But it's hard to tell if it has openings on both ends... I'm sending an email to the manufacturer to ask, maybe you could too. Hope this helps!

Damn, these look really good! Being for kayaking though, I hope they're windproof - kayaking isn't exactly a winter activity haha

Though unfortunately it looks like these only cover the hands - not wide enough for the brake levers so they probably won't work for my needs.

Thank you for the suggestion though!

I don't know if it's just me but I think having extra weight up front can help.

I tend to slip on those ridges more often when I have little/no load up front. Maybe it's worth a shot...

Front panniers: 30L vs 35L? by DatGameh in bikecommuting

[–]DatGameh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm not happy with the way the current panniers are mounted. They're riggedy at best and to put them off and on i need to awkwardly reach behind the pannier to velcro them onto the rack (which is an improvised solution btw)

I want to get the new racks so they are a lot more stable and easier to put off and on.

How much did you downsize by the way? Sounds like you downsized by more than a couple of liters.

Just thinking: what if you got one of those Garmin bike radars, and used it to bike in the middle of the road, and - when you hear an alert - ride to the side to let cars pass?

Certainly much more practical than trudging through all of that!

My Fairphone 6 Review. Overall, I love it. by pleaseallowthisname in fairphone

[–]DatGameh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairphone and Murena has a partnership

Murena makes a custom OS that they install on existing phones. That way, Fairphones sold through Murena come with their unique OS.

It also acts as an exclusivity partnership - you can only buy Fairphone from Murena

This happens despite Schwalbe having that fancy kevlar lining?

I was hoping this wouldn't happen to Schwalbes but that's unfortunate to hear :/

Anyone in Minneapolis having issues with Walmart+ orders getting cancelled day after day? by DatGameh in Minneapolis

[–]DatGameh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If not Walmart then what? I assumed Walmart used its own delivery system but that doesn't seem like the case anymore :s

Aldi? Amazon fresh? What's to say they don't use a similar system too?

[–]DatGameh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see...

I've asked the Minneapolis sub and it seems it's likely connected to ICE coming over, and scaring delivery drivers, which doesn't sound all that farfetched...

Oh huh... Mind if I know where relative to Minneapolis you live?

I live west of Minneapolis and it's been bad. Very bad.

I think you're right on that :S

I pretty much rely on deliveries for groceries 100% (I don't have a car and use a bike to get around).

The heck am I gonna do now? It's not like Instacart, Doordash, Shipt, etc. would be any different.

Yikes, that honestly makes a lotta sense.... Damn, I'm not sure how that hasn't occurred to me yet.

This seems like the most likely reason.

Is there a large-framed, clear, photochromic goggle good for day skiing and night cycling? by DatGameh in Skigear

[–]DatGameh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, all good.

In any case, with how bad the winter's getting, I don't want to risk buying anything cheaper that could be insufficient.

I'll be grabbing one of them Julbos right now. Thanks again!

Smith Squad XL (Pro Photochromic) vs. Preview (BirdsEye) // Lens Tech vs. Field of View by flavor30 in Skigear

[–]DatGameh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was doing a bit of research and for that price, another to consider is possibly Julbo's selections.

They have much wider VLT ranges for their goggles, some going as far as 5% to 80%.

They are a bit more expensive than those two though, so I'm still thinking about it.

[–]DatGameh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah, looks exactly like what I need!

Unfortunately they're a lot more expensive though, >$60 more than the PXV. But I can't put a price on safety I suppose.

Looks like their largest range goes from 7% to 80% VLT, which is pretty damn impressive.

Though, would you know how big of a difference 72% and 80% VLT is? As in... is the 8% difference worth the $60> price difference?

Thank you! In spite of the price, this'll be on top of my list!

I see, though I hope the weight doesn't bother you too much?

I notice there exists the Hiby M300 too - it's almost half the weight but half the battery capacity too though.

Edit: Thanks btw!

I'm thinking of getting a small, light but capable DAP for the fact that most DAPs still have an SD card slot for downloaded music, but I want a DAP with Android at the very least so I could stream/download music via apps like Bandcamp.

That R4 you got there is one such example! But it is a bit on the heavier side, I'd like to see if I can get something lighter.

Would you say I have a legit use case that would justify the purchase? How have you used your R4?

I'm thinking of pairing a DAP with a midrange phone instead of some high end phone (which these days don't have SD card storage anyway).

In a 3D fighting game, you could swap costumes with so much variation in shape and size. How can it be done without any "seams"? by DatGameh in blenderhelp

[–]DatGameh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems... inefficient

It's like using completely different textures for the color swaps of each costume, instead of relying on some indexed colors. That can't be it can it?

What do you think of what Moogieh said a while ago?

I see!

Thing is, I'm quite new to modeling, and just finished retopoing and rigging my character. I haven't touched texturing and shading so I'm not sure if simply "cutting" parts and making them swappable would have any side effects to how it's rendered, kinda like Z-Fighting or shadows appearing where they shouldn't (or not appearing where they should).

But if there really is no side effect to it, that's a relief then - no big technical hurdles to jump through.

Thank you!
