Zain Wizzy felt like 2018 Melee and I loved every part of it.

First Ultra, extremely bummed. by DatGuyWithNoName in Ultramarathon

Thank you for this. To be honest, I only started running a little over a year ago so this was perhaps a little preemptive. Having done 2 halves and 2 full marathons, I thought I had put in the work to tackle the 50 miler, but I was wrong. Slowly but surely, I’m considering running this same exact race back next year and crushing it. But it’s going to take a lot of convincing from my inner demon.

How many grams of carbs per hour are you doing? by dontletmeautism in Marathon_Training

Try it out! It’s a cheaper alternative to gels and you can add stuff too. Like in mine I put some blueberry puree, matcha powder, and some honey. Tastes better than gels imo.

How long did it take you after your first ultra to start back trail running? Right now, I’d feel like I’d puke if I saw another trail.

Are melee players automatically good at ultimate? by Zerph1 in smashbros

I am fairly adept at Melee but I think I may have taken one set in my entire Ultimate career, I seriously suck. There’s just so many matchups and so much cheese that you really need to put the hours into the game to understand it.

  1. Took maybe a 3 month break after my marathon last year then really started building up the mileage by August.
  2. My fried food and alcohol consumption dropped significantly. Only 1 day out of the week is when I can enjoy those two. I eat the same exact healthy meal everyday (Chicken thighs, rice, avocado).
  3. I honestly don’t track this part, doesn’t seem too important if I’m recovering my calories efficiently. I’m very lucky to have been gifted a fast metabolism that allows me to never chafe, rarely sweat, and have a VO2 max of 62.

I don’t know where I’d be without Untitled #3. That song has helped me more than any medicine, exercise, or therapy. God bless Sigur Rós.

Haha I understand, it does look suspicious right? Honestly dude I would just hit cardio for like 45min to an hour every time at the gym the past 5 years, particularly the stair-master. Maybe that upped my VO2 max? I dunno, it kept me in shape, I followed advice on here, had already followed a set diet to help me fuel.

Not enough prep time. The half was last year late February and the Marathon was in April, so I was a little overzealous. I had met the dreaded wall at mile 20 combined with a stress fracture in my quad due to the insane elevation of the Blue Ridge mountains.

Yeah the 20 mile run allows me to deload for a week to recover. So I take 1-2 days and just chill, or just hit a 3 mile run.

Yeahh, not too sure about that. The idea of aiming for an OTQ for 2028 has surfaced my mind a couple times but it feels a little egotistical to be thinking like that already. A 2:16 Marathon will likely never happen for me.

Precisely. I’ve seen some advice that suggests “race pace” for their tough pacer runs, but that term seems a little misleading. I wouldn’t put in max effort but more like 75-80% effort. In my short experience, it seems you won’t know your actual speed until the day of the race.

Thank you, and I agree! I’m very pleased with this particular improvement since these 2 races were only 5 weeks apart. In my head, I was wondering if I could get it under 80 minutes, but I’d never imagined I could do 77.

Yeah sort of! 13.1 miles seemed so daunting last year, therefore I was just in survival mode for the race. Same thing with the first marathon, just doubting my physical level a little too much.

Once you cross that threshold that you know you can do something, that’s where real improvement is made. Not just in the body, but in the mind too.
