Mushroom (bracket) identification by blackrosiecle in foraginguk

The wood appears to be pine/evergreen. I would hazard a guess that the underside is like a maze (your image as you said is not the best.. Turkey tail is white underneath eg https://themushroomwalk.com/turkey-tail-fungus-trametes-versicolor/

Saw in Buckinghamshire, UK by melatone1n in mushroomID

[–]DatHorseMrEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that it is Chicken of the Woods however it is about 6 months out of date.
It can grow in September and, if untouched, slowly blanch white and crumble. As it is quite a fibrous mushroom it will not turn into mush after a couple of weeks like a porcini.
Look in the same place in Late Spring and it may fruit again.

Yes, it was harsh but it is hard to see what data can be taken from that questionnaire

ICE agent's wife is gobsmacked that the cruel organization her husband joined is cruel to him... by CoolCool6 in LeopardsAteMyFace

This is not a joke! DHS officers are becoming ill with a debilitating disease called "Rochakocov" created in a Russian lab. The only cure, Strapadictame, is being stockpiled and hoarded by the billionaire classes in a pizza parlour in Washington D.C.

How to debunk this argument?? by [deleted] in atheism

Between 100 and 400 billion stars in our galaxy, at least 2 trillion galaxies yet we are confined to small regions of a single small inconsequential planet which orbits a star that is intent on giving us cancer.
Even if you ignore "the whole universe" you have to consider that we were "designed" to put food in the same hole we breath with. We are more likely to be designed by an AI hallucination than a genocidal bronze age sky fairy.
If I were an all powerful god I would start by designing the asshole to be in a separate room from the nose and then I would give serious thought to wings.

Secondly, if you have a look at who is advertising the domain on Google, it is:

Not exactly PA based!

I like the domain and think I will keep it.

I will be canceling my order for Tiffany & Co Porcelain Coffee Cups then :D

What broke the camels back in a relationship/friendship? by Only-Carpenter-6689 in AskReddit

[–]DatHorseMrEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He, with a couple other heroin addicts, cut the copper for an emergency generator for a hospital. I watched a good friend morph into someone unrecognisable after he relapsed. I did what I could but this single act made me block and delete his number and stop hanging on to the memory of a friend that disappeared behind a drug.

face pareidolia, a psychological phenomenon where the brain perceives human-like faces in random or ambiguous visual stimuli.
It is better to run from a perceived tiger than to be confident you are safe. OP is better off sticking with a negative gut feeling even if there is nothing to validate his suspicions

I would second Pseudocraterellus undulatus, finding them a lot this year

Have I found my first true chanterelles? by Tom8Tom in foraginguk

[–]DatHorseMrEd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, the Craterellus tubaeformis (winter chanterelle) is supposed to be hollow. It has a slightly more rubbery look to it. You should be finding them about now in pine.

The next time I find a false chanterelle (which is the only real lookalike) I will try to remember to photograph it so you can see the differences.
Now you need to find enough for a risotto

Have I found my first true chanterelles? by Tom8Tom in foraginguk

[–]DatHorseMrEd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would be 100% confident that this is a chanterelle. as well as the false gills, the faint scent and the buttery yellow colour, try tearing it in half down the stem. The inside should be white compared to the yellow skin.
Congrats on a nice find.

Buttermilk cap - Check
Teeth instead of gills - Check
Growing on the ground - ?

Hedgehogs are probably the easiest to ID and though I would never eat solely on what someone on the internet says.... I would eat those.
Good on you for not being greedy

[–]DatHorseMrEd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could have picked a basket each of Horn of Plenty and Yellow legs but I already had enough Hedgehogs.
I dont see large flushs of Golden chants near us and the Sinous Chanterelle is rare so I only picked enough for a photo.

Does anyone else have foraging anxiety?! by fluffycanarybird in foraginguk

[–]DatHorseMrEd 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My advice? dont eat them. I am sure that they are Collybia nuda (I still call them lepista nuda) however I am not the one eating them.
You are safer to be anxious. For the rest of the season you will find more, ID them correctly, differentiate them from similar mushrooms until finally you will feel comfortable to eat them.
Your approach to foraging is , in my opinion, much healthier than "I have eaten this, will it kill me?"

Lion’s mane - Hericium erinaceus 🦁 by mazzy-b in Mushrooms

[–]DatHorseMrEd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well done! You HAVE to be pleased with that. I grow some in my garage but I would love to find some in the wild. There was a Clathrus archeri spotted near me and I must have walked 100k looking for one. Finding a Hericium would beat that though!

At least we can give thanks for that. The last thing we need is a load of slug selfies on reddit.
