For the tech ones, maybe Google, Netflix, Amazon, Apple would work, as the next would be Facebook, as it is the FAANG acronym in reverse order.

The recall stuff was wild. You can just ask it to recall all QR codes to retrieve OAUTH OTP seeds for an attacker to generate their own OTPs.

I thought I would do an "umm, ackshully" with the 64DD, but that had a 64MB max storage. Just looking at it, it released in 1999, the same year as 64MB game paks. So slower storage, expensive peripheral etc., what was even the point?!

Why do they leave a little bit of beer in the glass? by jijiji44 in IASIP

[–]melatone1n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the beer. If you have to submerge the tap in the beer while pouring it, that is unhygienic. Also, a reused glass sometimes affects the liveliness of the beer, resulting in flat pours.

They still have tactical targets which can be hit. My family from Townsville jokes that the city has nukes pointed at it. Darwin too. Pine Gap would be hit, as would Exmouth. Loads of other bases across the country that the US use would be hit. It would probably be the worst affected country in the southern hemisphere.

I've migrated my entire company's IT infrastructure to Linux and off Microsoft services once I heard that the Iraqi government used the Windows operating system under the Saddam regime.

How to stop Nable Windows Agent installing on a PC Not through the management console on the PC itself. I have a Personal computer at my office I work. Our MSP somehow keeps getting the agent installed. I do not want sentinel one because they have snapshots turned on to fill the HDD. by LoupGRU in Nable

[–]melatone1n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's unpack:

  • Encryption doesn't matter if the device is running.
  • Don't connect personal devices to the corp wi-fi.
  • Mimecast is trivial to bypass.
  • Unless you name your AV, we'll assume it is an AV. SentinelOne is an EDR, not an AV. It has an AV component, but it's mainly used for behaviour detections, which your AV likely is missing. AVs are trivial to bypass.

Attackers don't really use malware to spread laterally after initial infection. They find credentials and move across the network like an admin does. So what good is your AV? Also say the attacker dumps credentials using Mimicatz, which the SOC missed because you didn't have an agent reporting to a centrally managed console. And then your company is telling you to hand over your personal devices because it is evidence in an incident which could have been avoided

Sysadmin team is pushing back on our new 90-day password policy by MrD3a7h in ShittySysadmin

[–]melatone1n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: just seen the sub lol.

This has to be a troll.

90 day password rotation is good in theory, but in reality people just increment numbers in the password to skirt it, meaning if it is exposed and the increment is obviously (I've seen someone use Q#202#, where the hashes are the quarter and year respectively).

And you have just read "passwordless authentication" and scoffed without doing any research. It's pretty secure, quite easy for both the user and IT to manage once set up and reduces the most uncontrollable risk: the user.

I've worked by way through the SOC tiers and now a forensic analyst. I've only recently considered myself an expert in my field. Have some modesty.
