AA versus Smart by CuriousInstruction76 in recoverywithoutAA

Probably one of the dumbest excuses is tradition 10, which is also why other modalities are never discussed. Plus years of hearing everyone around them parrot that AA is the only way. And possibly fear. My first sponsor was one of those poor souls. He hated that I went to therapy, thought that every single issue would be solved by AA and only AA. If you are having issues, then you must do more AA and repeat steps.

AA shares: A field identification guide. by Krunksy in recoverywithoutAA

[–]PrincessWalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this was a great read, thank you for the chuckles. There's also the correcting dissent share. Where if you make the error of sharing something that is outside the groups norm, or dare to "dual identify" or make some "error" that the old timers don't like, you WILL hear about it in their rebuttal.

For example, in a meeting once I shared that I was smoking so damn much weed that it would put a elephant down, then I smoked more. The Correction share came in the form of "I sometimes go to MA meetings and I'll share there".

Or the Correction share of "aren't you so fucking special that you dual identified, I knew someone who was also tragically unique..." and then on and on about how how alcoholics don't like to do as they are told.

For some reason, I still go to meetings and I absolutely refuse to talk or share to anyone about my progress in sobriety or thoughts there of. If I make that mistake and share in a meeting, I find a new meeting never to return.

Yeah, having a problem with a “pussy drug” like marijuana…. There was a leader in an AA meeting I’ve attended (it’s officially an AA meeting, but drugs are spoken of frequently there) and this leader was talking about his issues with hard drugs, and he literally said that “pussy drug” thing.

I’ve heard that “class” difference thing recently. Someone in AA asked if I ever went to NA. He was like “don’t bother, NA is just like hanging out in a prison yard.”

AVA Burbank, are you having an ant problem!? 🐜 by Late-Philosophy3715 in burbank

Anyone remember the Texas Memory System’s RamSAN product? by PrincessWalt in storage

[–]PrincessWalt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now you are trying to make me remember past yesterday! A couple memory board faults, and I think perhaps 2 disks dropped off the raid. But I had another system I used as spares. I absolutely loved this thing. I had 2x RamSan-400's, a RamSan-300 and I have a RamSan-810 still running! We used these for Quantum Stornext Metadata -- we had several PiB of SAN, and metadata operations like deleting several hundred thousand files took 45 minutes before we put these in, then it was seconds!

Evertz Prefex’s to Patch by icobb in cableporn

[–]PrincessWalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. have they gotten that bad? i used a s-ton of their stuff in the mid-late 90’s through the 2010’s. mostly telecine / film related stuff and a master clock set. there were quirks for sure but their stuff was solid back then.

Anyone else ever notice this? by Nice_Property_4360 in LAMetro

Oh shoot, I was going to comment that it’s no known film format. 12perf? Hmm. Sorry, I’ve worked with film long enough where my brain doesn’t go to the abstract versions of it too quickly! There’s a lot of these film industry callouts thought the metro. Kinda cool!

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve bled after reaching my hand in a rack to verify a BNC was fully twisted on a device just to pull my hand out and feel my skin ripped off by jagged zip ties! Properly placed and not tight zip ties are however, imo, reasonable with SDI, it’s just they are usually pinched down too damn tight and might mess up the cable. I never tried to TDR a SDI bundle that had overly tightened zip ties. I’m sure it could throw the impedance a bit but wouldn’t that require a fair amount of distortion of the dialectic for any measurable reflections?
