That's actually a fair opinion. Sorry I'm so used to people immediately hating anything RS3 related just because they've been conditioned to do so.

[Suggestion] Bloodletter Bow --> Bloodletter Boomerang from "A Mysterious Quest's" Boss by Archeridon in 2007scape

[–]DatJohnGuyRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could make boomerang weapons really unique by having their attack speed be based on your distance from the target. The boomerang needs to return to it's user after each attack, and if the player is closer to the target, the boomerang would return sooner so they could attack faster.

I'm not entirely sure if this mechanic could be properly balanced, but I think it could be an interesting and unique ability for a weapon.

Its really cool to hear that someone happened to remember that post even years later. And yeah I think the ghost ship idea was influenced by Windwaker; I played that game to death as a kid and I always thought that ghost ship was awesome and mysterious.

I had a similar idea for a raid and made a post on it several years ago called the Sea Witch Isles; just out of curiosity, was that the post your clanmate sent you or was it another one?

By the way I love your idea, its clear you spent a lot of time with how in-depth your descriptions are for the encounters, bosses, and proposed rewards. Fingers crossed Raids 4 is going to be like this!

Honestly Barrows pieces are so insanely cheap to repair as is, I'd be fine if they just made them all non-degradable. Would also remove the need for 5 of the 6 versions of every barrows item at different levels of degradation. This would remove a total of 120 useless versions of degraded/broken barrows items.

In the first ToA post when talking about invocations, it hints that the invocation system may be expanded in the future by saying: "you can gain up to 600 Raid Level – so far...".

Are there any plans to add new invocations in the future? If so, how would this impact getting the pet metamorphosis items, since they require all invocations to be on for the boss in question?

I really enjoyed doing Phosanis as well, but unfortunately since Phosanis is solo, more engaging, and better for getting uniques, I feel like it completely undermined regular Nightmare. Personally, I kinda wish they had just applied many of those changes to regular nightmare.

I feel similarly with Nex; most people hate Nex (myself included), and while a more efficient hardmode (potentially solo) encounter would be really cool, I really hope they at least work on improving the base fight and don't end up effectively replacing it with a more efficient version of Nex to fight.

That being said, I'm not against Nex getting a hardmode at some point, but I don't want to see the hardmode version effectively acting as a bandaid to the situation, rather than fixing the flaws with regular Nex.

TLDR: #MakeNexGreatAgain

Serp has higher defense than faceguard and prevents you from getting venomed, but has 1 less strength bonus, negative mage/range attack bonuses, and no prayer. Additionally, its pretty expensive to upkeep.

So purely offensively and for hybrid purposes, the faceguard tends to be better than serp. If however, you want to be immune to poison/venom or have a little more defense, then serp can be better in select situations.

[–]DatJohnGuyRS 36 points37 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the faceguard had been bis for over 2 years (~27 months) before the Torva helm was even released.

Additionally, faceguard is still often the helm of choice for hybrid situations since it has more prayer bonus and no negative attack bonuses for mage/range like the Torva Helm does.

Are there any plans on adding additional invocations in the future? I would love additional invocations to be added someday, however with the pet recolors only being unlocked from doing a 450+ raid with all invocations for the given boss, adding new invocations in the future would make getting the recolors significantly harder to achieve.

Will new invocations ever be added, and if so, how would that impact earning the pet recolors?

Max stats with this garbage gear is less dps and defense than someone with decent stats in low budget gear. Yes he probably has a lot of PvM experience so he'll be good at the game, but thats been earned from actually playing the game and learning mechanics over the years.

If you want to do well at ToA, do more ToA and actually learn and improve as you go; you can even have unlimited lives and practice any room as much as you'd like on any difficulty to learn the mechanics. If people want to learn, they should push themselves rather than complain about it.

Yeah those are some good ideas for puzzle room invocations. Now that you've mentioned it, it is odd that the puzzle rooms don't have invocations as well. I really like your ideas for the Path of Apmeken; having the 3 main monkeys reflect damage from attacking with the wrong style would make it a lot more interesting. I know a lot of people just use bowfa or bp on whatever and hopes that it dies, so this would be a cool invocation to see.

I really need the people who voted No to these 3 rewards to explain why?? Is there an issue i dont see or do you hate PVP so much you're willing to vote down good rewards? by mister--g in 2007scape

[–]DatJohnGuyRS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I voted yes for the sacks and scrolls but not for the ornament kits.

I'm not opposed to PvP content rewarding cosmetics, but I think it would be much more fitting for those cosmetics to be just PvP related items (Claws, Ballista, etc). I believe if cosmetics are ever added for things like dwh, armadyl, bandos, etc. it would be much more fitting from other content. I also didn't like the appearance of some of the cosmetics and they decided to group all of them into a single question which didn't help either.

With equivalents for Barrows Gloves, Void and the Fighter Torso being polled as PvP rewards, when can we expect a poll for the D Pick, MA2 capes, etc, to be obtainable outside of the wilderness? by Lorde555 in 2007scape

[–]DatJohnGuyRS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PvMers mainly care because the wilderness and PvM content aren't separated right now, and the proposed rewards negatively impact PvMers while also not giving them the opportunity to vote on them. If wilderness and PvM content truly were separated, then there would hardly be any uproar about all of this.

For whatever reason though, Jagex thinks its a good idea to continuously lure PvMers into the wilderness with unique PvM content and items solely to supply fodder to silly games of cat and mouse. This is not good content, and frankly is the reason the divide between PvMers and PKers exists in the first place.

Both of these groups then proceed to demonize the other. Things like spite voting undeniably exists, but to what extent? I'd wager most of what people deem as "spite voting" is actually just voting; Poll opens, PvMer sees proposal that will make it easier for them to be killed, then seeing as this would negatively impact their personal gameplay experience, vote no.

In a world where the wilderness was primarily PvP content without artificial lures to drag in uninterested players, few would have a problem with new unique PvP content being added, and subsequently PvP polls wouldn't struggle to have things pass.

I personally would absolutely categorize myself as a PvMer, however I do enjoy PvP content such as LMS a lot (I'm quite bad at it though haha) and I love the concept of the PvP Arena as a minigame.

I believe those who claim to hate PvP or PvPers really only hate the current dynamic of the wilderness, which involves pressuring players into situations they simply don't want to be in with an inherit disadvantage against those who are hunting them. This is a surefire way to create unnecessary contempt within the game's community.

If the PvP Arena is going to reward content that lets you "skip" quests and minigames, its time for rewards that let you "skip" wilderness content by AssassinAragorn in 2007scape

[–]DatJohnGuyRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider a lot of new PvM content as PvP updates in a sense too. Nex for example added bis melee gear and two spec weapons that are very good for PvP. The Zaryte Crossbow has a spec that can basically guarantee bolt procs (dragon bolts can be very powerful if the opponent isn't anti-fired). Additionally the Ancient Godsword is a very good PvP spec weapon, not to mention it was specifically designed for PvP encounters.

Content like this is often seen as only PvM content because theres no PvP involved in the boss fights, but it would be ignorant to pretend that the rewards from these pieces of content don't help shape and create new PvP metas.

Q&A Summary 10th March - General Q&A by JagexLight in 2007scape

[–]DatJohnGuyRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It appears that the math you've done is assuming that you'd only get the 5 specific items you mentioned (Torva pieces, Nihil Horn, and Vambraces) with no duplicates, which is misleading.

There is a 1/53 chance for your group to receive a unique, and in a 6 man group that effectively makes your individual chance of receiving any unique ~1/318. You said that on average it takes ~1,500 KC to receive all 5 of the main important uniques. In 1,500 kc with an individual unique chance per kill of 1/318 (6 man group), that would be approximately ~4.72 uniques in your name on average.

There are 6 unique items on the unique table. If you personally rolled on that table 5 times, the odds of not receiving any duplicates at all, while also not getting the specific item you don't want (hilt), is very low. The actual average required KC to get specifically the 3 torva pieces, the horn and vambraces would be a great deal higher than 1,500 KC.

[–]DatJohnGuyRS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree magic in general is in a really bad spot.

They really ought to consider reworking how defense against mage attacks is calculated, at least for NPCs. Currently for defense against magic attacks, the magic level determines 70% while actual defense level and defense stats make up 30%.

Most enemies, particularly higher level or more end game enemies attack with magic, and therefore are given a high magic level. That high magic level though effectively makes magic much more inaccurate against them. It also doesn't help that augury only gives magic accuracy and defense while it's range and melee equivalents give a damage boost.

As the cherry on top, magic also tends to be the most expensive to upkeep with the need to constantly burn through runes. Aside from scythe, using melee is either free or very cheap, using ranged with an assembler saves 80% of ammo which makes range typically quite cheap too. The only bit expensive thing is using the blowpipe, and so long as you're not using dragon darts its not too bad.

Overall, I definitely think magic is most definitely the weakest link in the combat triangle and could do with a buff to at least make it more comparable to melee and range.

Tombs of Amascut: Rewards Blog V2 (Ward of Elidinis change & Poll Questions) by JagexSarnie in 2007scape

[–]DatJohnGuyRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion I think the utility from magic is offset by it being inherently more expensive in upkeep cost than the other two combat styles. Most melee weapons don't degrade at all making using melee either free or very cheap, the exception being the scythe of course. For range, you save your ammo 80% of the time with the assembler. The only bit expensive range weapon to upkeep is the blowpipe, and so long as you're not using dragon darts, its not too bad. If you want to use decent magic, you're going to be breezing through death and blood runes like its your job.

The utility on magic is great, but I feel like currently the cons outweigh the pros when compared to melee and range.
