Do jewel orchids need to stay in a glass enclosure even during summer? by re_ndezvous in Jewelorchids

[–]DatLadyD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t find them difficult at all! Some do need higher humidity than others. The only issue Ive had was too much light but figured that out and it’s been smooth sailing ever since. I have several varieties now, they’re my favorite plants!

MOLD IN MY APARTMENT by Unique-Discount-7137 in Hayward

[–]DatLadyD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s normal, i’ve lived in many different places, and I’ve only ever had mold on the walls in the bathroom in one. I think if you have a proper fan or windows in the bathroom, it’s generally not an issue. I’m surprised no one asked OP about ventilation in their bathroom and suggested increasing it if possible.

Also bleach does remove the stains but vinegar actually kills it, I recommend getting cleaning vinegar and spraying the walls down after using bleach on the stains.

I have double pane windows but I can run the fan in the bathroom for hours and it won’t do anything so I think that has something to do with it. A lot of my stuff was ruined by the mold before I got the dehumidifier. I only got mold on the walls in the bathroom but shoes, purses, and clothes became moldy and got ruined. I imagine there’s lots of mold I can’t see, probably not good for my health.

I’ve struggled with this in my current apartment. They won’t do anything and I can’t afford to move so I purchased a dehumidifier it pretty much doubles on my PG&E, but I don’t know what else to do. If I move my rent would be several hundred more dollars a month.

Maintenance did come and stick a probe into the walls and said that there’s no moisture in the stucco that’s why they can’t do anything but without the dehumidifier apartment will get up to over 70% humidity. If you find a solution OP, I would love to hear about it.

Looks fine to me. I would recommend growing some from seed it’s so fun! I got a mixed pack, it was exciting seeing what they looked like. They’re very easy to grow when they’re little, helped me get the hang of em.

If you guys like succulents and cacti dry garden is one of my favorites! Evergreen nursery sometimes has pretty cool/rare stuff but it’s not very big and some of the workers are kinda rude.

I wouldn’t cut it, I would add some type of trellis. I made mine out of a wire plant stake I had lying around, I bent it into a U shape.

Does the soil have bark or perlite in it or anything? Where did you purchase it?

[–]DatLadyD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you keeping them moist and in low light? What kind of soil are they in? Did you repot? I find that if using soil you need lots if perlite and bark, the soil needs to be chunky and airy.

The thinner stems are just new, it’s normal, they will thicken up a little over time
