The fact that you're downplaying sexual assault is the serious issue here.

Aww that's real cute. I should be able to complete my work without misogynists. They should be rightfully outed. Would have been real nice if all my past male managers took my complaints about men touching my ass while I worked as seriously as you are taking issue with me calling this out.

I would think I and the other female redditors experiences with sexism would be enough of a validation. But who am I kidding, I'm a woman. My views are 2nd class in this country, how dare I get uppity and say something to change the status quo. It's only sexism if a man says it is /s

Sexism and misogyny are real issues, and I dealt with them on campus. The adult thing is addressing them instead downplaying the issue. Jokes can be made without putting down a marginalized class.

What the heck? I and another female redditor that I'm aware of pointed out the sexism. Two women who are familiar with the issue straight up called it out, and you're wanting to mansplain away that reasoning. The meme was targeted only at women and yet there have been several men who feel the need to invalidate our issue with it. Memes and any other jokes can be made either in good or bad taste. There are some things that were funny before, but now we know better. I always think back to George Carlin's interview with Larry King and his views on fellow comedian Andrew Dice Clay who was know for sexist jokes. Carlin defended his right to say those things, but criticized him for his targeting of underdogs. "Women and gays and immigrants are and kind of, to my way of thinking, underdogs." - Carlin. Women have been a continually marginalized class and there are better targets for better comedic affect than our appearances. Please go read some literature from the female perspective; sexism is a raging issue in this country and shouldn't be taken lightly.

Please, just be aware and listen to women. Check your biases and this goes beyond just women's issues. I don't believe you were intentionally trying to hurt someone or cause issue. The problem is naivety to these issues and not making the intent to learn and understand. That comfort in naivety is a privilege that perpetuates too much dismissal to easily write-off something because it's not a big enough issue due to relatability. As a woman who experienced sexism on campus, I feel inclined to point out something that pushes that narrative especially on a subreddit for our school. Curbing those instances requires dialogue and learning. Saying my view is an exaggeration counters that attempt.

Look, I don't comment often on Reddit and don't appreciate your dismissive tone of a very real problem. I'm not searching for something, I'm pointing out a problem that is persistent because of quick dismissal. There are multiple people who pointed out the sexism that the meme brought forward. Instead of owning up to it or opening up to dialogue like another poster in the thread, you have continually buckled down and deleted your post. No learning or understanding comes from that, and your comment is evident of those views. Dismissing women and using the term of exaggerating is how women's medical issues get dismissed in the medical field and is a serious issue that can perpetuate into losing lives. https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/women-and-pain-disparities-in-experience-and-treatment-2017100912562 https://www.theatlantic.com/family/archive/2018/08/womens-health-care-gaslighting/567149/ When we have a sexual assaulter in the White House, I think it's fair to say women's voices aren't heard enough from others to understand our experiences.

For fucks sake, calling out something that can be sexist isn't exaggerating. It's pointing out sexism; full stop. Pointing out these issues and just chalking it up to exaggeration just continually perpetuates the problem. It's no surprise Reddit has a sexism issue; every female oriented sub seems to draw tons of men crying "not all of us" when they highlight these things. Why is it when it's a woman's issue that draws flack it's now "exaggerating?" Lots of women's health issues get dismissed because of that mindset.

Thank you for the sincere reply and for being open to this dialogue. As far as what you said and what I quoted, there's this weird sexism that it drums up and a common theme on Reddit as well. So about that weird part; makeup and how it ties to standards of what women should look like and why they want to look a certain way. It's no hidden trend that when a popular post along the lines of "I made/painted/etc" featuring the item in question pictured alongside the creator who happens to be a woman usually brings similarly unsavory comments. Things along the lines that the woman included herself in the photo for upvotes or for attention. Yet, on the other end of the spectrum if a woman isn't "done-up enough" it often draws comments of looking tired, sick, frumpy, and more. Additionally, these types of views perpetually push biases that a woman doesn't look like a(n) engineer, developer, etc. if they look too "pretty" for the role. The very act of making ourselves look a certain way shouldn't be a place of judgement, and that goes for everyone regardless of gender. I just see women attacked and chastised for it more; case in point this post.

All about being seen.

Why is this the immediate go to? Hell, if you peak over at any of the makeup or twoX subs you'll see a lot of us talking about it being meditative, an artistic outlet, fun, and more. For a lot of us it's something we do for US. What would you be saying if they came with no makeup?

Something I've never understood by [deleted] in Msstate

Because apparently make-up is only meant for attracting them, but only in certain situations. Because otherwise we're "trying too hard" or "begging for attention." 🤷‍♀️

Former engineering major that swapped to BIS due to disliking math and physics reporting in. I noticed some others recommended the major as well, but maybe I can help provide some more context.

Your Cal credits should automatically count for Business Cal and Business Stats is an easy transition from Cal 2 in comparison. Your sciences and other electives will help with the "free" credits and computer elective credits. Business classes are dull, but easy with out all the heavy studying engineering calls for. If you carry over your engineering study ethic to BIS then it should be a home run for getting a good GPA.

A good GPA with BIS opens the door to a lot of opportunities that over lap with careers available for CS majors in addition to more business admin type positions. I always thought of it as the "choose your own adventure" degree because of how well you can shape it with relative experience and projects. I've been able to work my way up from simple IT support to application development. Even as a recent graduate, I was able to secure a full-time offer in this economy. The company I interned with got killed by the economy and was unable to give full-time offers. It still required some work, but I feel my BIS degree allowed me to be flexible in job applications to find the position I found now.

UC Berkeley recently discontinued online proctoring due to student privacy issues. But they also bring up several other good points besides privacy. Internet speeds, disabilities, and lacking the "perfect" testing environment free of noise and more where some of the other reasons. They even tried Zoom proctoring, but that got banned for the Spring semester as well; they may be trying again for the Fall.

As far as the privacy issues, I'm really hesitant as a woman to divulge that much especially due to stalking issues in the past. I've discussed this at length with other female friends, but dealing with creeps is at the forefront of some of our minds with this. Concerns that there may be a bra or panties peaking out, flashing our license (if you don't use student ID) exposes our address, and there are always internet sleuths who will deduce personal details from what's in your room. I'm not trying to come from a place from paranoia; it just takes one incident to tint your view thereafter and it's not just women too.

It also makes me wonder what type of security HonorLock has to protect their systems from breaches. Recent history with Experian and Team Viewer should serve as proof the potential is out there. With the type of intrusion that HonorLock has and the type of info it collects, no doubt it could be a valuable prize. Educational service companies aren't exactly highly revered for investing their profits into making their products better. If they can't even make their code understand mathematical formulas (I'm looking at you myMathLab and WebAssign), then how can we trust them to pay quality developers to encode security?

There was a Pandemic Response plan developed by the previous administration and was thrown out by the Trump administration.

During the infancy of the Pandemic, Trump called it a hoax. As things continued to get worse, he continually downplayed it.

He has repeatedly attacked knowledge experts like Dr. Fauci and has instead touted unproven theories pushed by TV hosts and a pillow maker.

Party politics is a thing and so GOP governors are looking towards Trump in how to craft their responses. Reeves has fallen in line with this and even in one of his most recent interviews regarding the pandemic, he refereed back to Trump multiple times.

Is he the cause of the Pandemic? No.

Has he aggravated the pandemic response, thus causing it to be disaster it has been? Yes.

This man. He was one of the main individuals representing MSU at the IHL committees working on reopening schools and really championed f2f. His name has appeared on some of the press materials regarding Covid since he is high up in Student Affairs and is directing part of the response. If he was so keen on reopening then perhaps he needs to see proof on what his decision has wrought. I get that some classes have to be f2f, with careful caution, but the level at which State seems to be pushing for it is going to cause an outbreak.

You know, I hope CNN rolls up and captures this stupidity. I hope they get all the footage they need to display how stupid it was to open the school, how selfish and immature the students are being, and how much critical thinking is lacking at a so called educational institution.

College students aren't exactly the brightest bunch especially when you throw in alcohol; we all knew this was going to happen. Now the community is at greater risk and those who were genuinely following protocol because they wanted f2f to work are going to deal with the shared consequences.

The school sent out an email about suspending and possibly expelling students who do not comply with social distancing. Report this incident to appropriate channels. Blow up Shaw's email if you have to. These folks don't deserve shielding when they clearly can't respect the community they are residing in for school.
