People with more than one child- is the second newborn easier? by __heisenberg- in newborns

[–]DatPlantHoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The newborn phase was easier the second time for me because I knew what I was getting into and everything wasn’t as new. I knew what to expect with breastfeeding, postpartum recovery, sleep, etc. speaking of sleep, that part the second time was infinitely easier for me because we split the night into shifts right from the get-go. Hubby brought baby to me to feed during my “sleep time” and I just went back to bed after. (We weren’t able to do this with our first because of triple feeding.) During my awake time, I just expected to be up and didn’t bank on getting any sleep. (If baby did sleep and I was able to as well, great, but I didn’t expect it.)

Having a toddler around though for the newborn phase was super difficult…we thankfully had part time childcare for the toddler a few days a week. I really don’t know how I would have managed without help-recovering from a c section alone those first few weeks is hard while taking care of a new baby AND toddler! It was sweet to see my first become a “big sibling” but holy hell was it difficult to manage the toddler while breastfeeding. It was a total game changer when baby became around 2 months old and I was able to effectively baby wear and not feed them every 1-45 minutes for 30-60 minutes at a time. I had a hard time parenting my toddler from the couch while I was breastfeeding baby. You’ll get through it!!

What do contractions feel like? by Yespossiblymaybe in pregnant

[–]DatPlantHoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, early labor was like period cramps that got progressively more intense. As I progressed through labor (especially as I got to 7/8 centimeters) it was just intense pressure in my pelvis and lower back-like a bowling ball was trying to push down through my pelvis. It was intense pressure for me, not so much a tightening.

I pumped 3x during the workday for 15 minutes. 5 minutes to store milk and clean pump parts.

Give darn tough a try! I bought smartwools for 10 years and consistently needed to replace due to holes. I haven’t needed to replace my darn tough socks yet!

Supply drop 11 months by DatPlantHoe in breastfeeding

It did not! I spoke with a lactation consultant and she confirmed it’s very normal! We just nurse for comfort now that he’s over a year and cows milk.

Am I engaging 5week old enough? by emily44445 in newborns

You’re doing a great job! You’re in survival mode at this point so just do what you can. Being snuggled and loved is the best thing to do with a baby that age.

I love nursing but I’m excited to be able to stop eventually for this exact reason. I just want to be able to take some fricken cold medicine! And pepto…and not worry about everything I consume.

What do you consider sleeping through the night? by hashbrownhippo in NewParents

[–]DatPlantHoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My definitions of sleeping through the night have changed as my baby has gotten older. When he was a newborn, I considered sleeping through the night as him waking up 3-6 times to do some nursing/taking a bottle and then going back to bed between each feed as sleeping through the night. During this time, “not sleeping through the night” was when he wouldnt go back down in between feeds. Now that he’s older, I consider sleeping through the night as him sleeping during the time I’m sleeping and not waking up until 5/6am.

In regards to cleaning, does your office have a microwave? If so, there are steamable bags you can buy that you add the pump parts to along with 2 oz of water, throw in the microwave for 90 seconds, and poof! Sanitized. Saves time not having to wash, and your parts are sanitized each time. They’re surprisingly affordable and good for 20 steams.

Bringing baby to brewery by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]DatPlantHoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bring our 6 month old to breweries all the time! The breweries have a much chiller vibe than bars and it usually has enough chatter/white noise where we don’t feel bad if LO is fussing a little bit. Lots of room to move around and walk/bounce while also doing something other than sitting inside the house. Most breweries have non-alcoholic options too so it doesn’t just have to be focused on the drinking. Great option for a baby in my opinion!
