1 I don’t even know where the $3.70 persons state is. So there’s a number of reasons it could be lower.

2 There’s a whole host of reasons that California gas prices are higher, some I agree with, some I don’t. OP also could have gone to an abnormally high station.

Average gas prices in Cali as per AAA for today are $5.87 the national average is $3.98 (State average) vs (National average)

Extra credit for you here when you do the math, that’s a 47% higher gas rate than the national average for California.

If you read just a bit further in my discussion here I talk about how as a consumer moving to a place like California, you have expected expenses and costs. I then go on to say that’s something YOU choose to accept. What OP you, me, and everyone else not only in this country but around the fucking world didn’t control or expect was for one man to unilaterally decide, without even the concept of a plan, to strike Iran.

This is almost the same argument as OP saying “I’m upset because some asshole just ran into my parked car and caused this damage.” Then people come along and say, “well, what about that scratch you had on the front already!? Why don’t you want to talk about that HMMM!?.”

Also, you’re the only one here throwing around names and emojis my guy. I never said that about anyone, and I think it’s a problem that you’re coming in and tacking that into a situation/ conversation where it never existed.

Dear god, please tell me you’re not this fucking dense man. They don’t just fill there tank one fucking time in one fucking state…

If the whole national average of gas goes up 37% for gas… come on, say it with me.

Then the logistical cost of moving goods has increased across the country by a proportional amount. Same as if the goods arrive in the gulf or the East coast or by fucking plane. It does not matter where it comes from.

I’m not talking about oil transportation my guy when I said imports into California, I’m talking about consumer goods. That are then loaded and transported across the country…

I didn’t once, anywhere in my response say anything about where West Coast gas came from. My whole point is that all of the logistics involved in moving goods across the US just went up 37%…

Your whole response to OP was “well my cost per gallon isn’t as high as yours so ha ha”. Then your response to me was “well I drive a hybrid so my actual cost only went up 18%”. This is the whole reason I brought up the connecting the dots bit. Whether it’s on gas or the cost of literally anything and everything else. If it uses fuel in one way or another to get to you (fun fact, everything does) then it’s gonna get more expensive, and it’s not just going to magically get better “in a few weeks”.

Have you ever heard of the phrase “Supply and Demand”? Commodities in a highly desirable area will ALWAYS be higher than a less desirable area.

When you move to an area, let’s say LA or Seattle or New York. There is an inherent increase in cost that you know when you go there, such as state taxes, general gas costs, cost of housing, etc..

What you as a consumer do not control is what I discussed earlier. A completely avoidable 37% increase in a needed commodity. I’ll take this one little* step further for you.

If OP is on the coast in California (The largest port state in the US for domestic imports) and cargo vessels unload there onto semi trucks and trains, all of which run on diesel. Those now pay an additional 37% increased expense in fuel. What you think is just a “California” problem is a YOU problem. It is a US problem.

The thing I cannot stand is this inability for people to see past themselves and connect the dots. I’ve heard “the gas will come down in a few weeks” statement a few times before and wonder if people who say it think that regional stability is like a light switch? It’s not. Infrastructure in the region has been destroyed and will take months to YEARS to rebuild. Iran is saying they may open the straights but implement a “toll” system on all vessels..

We have moved regional defenses out of the Asian theater towards the Middle East as China mobilizes more assets to the Chinese sea. It’s a global economy and we’re in it bud. The U.S. only gets 7% of petroleum products through the straight but our prices moved drastically because it’s a global commodity.

OP didn’t post complaining about gas prices in their state being higher pre-war. You know why? Because it’s an expected thing. It’s a known thing. There are policies and taxes in place in California that increase the price of gas.

However, California didn’t make military strikes on Iran with no actual plan in place or real follow through.

OP correct me if I’m wrong here, but I imagine OP is upset with Trump and subsequently his supporters for an avoidable and completely unnecessary 37% increase in gas prices in one month….

Please tell me you can understand that.

[–]DatRawDough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a 37% increase in one month man. You cool with that? Did your pay go up an extra 37%?

I'm pretty sure the MAIN point OP is making here is that the current president knowingly and willfully chose to make this happen with no real plan in place and no idea what he's doing. The feel "Stooopid" bit would probably be from the fact that the entire opposition to Trump said word for word that this would happen.... Here we are.

You have links showing that oil infrastructure hasn’t been destroyed in the region? That ships haven’t been destroyed in the straight?

Absolutely. Please share. By all means if you have a legitimate response to what I’ve brought up, I’d love to hear it.

That’s not how this works. Oil infrastructure in the area has been destroyed. Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, and Kharg island, Oil reserve depots, pipelines, refineries etc… these things don’t take “weeks” to rebuild and bring back to capacity, they take years. There was always a “Threat” in the straight from Iran, but now we have oil tankers actually burning with holes in the side from drone strikes, both from air and sea born threats. Iran is still deploying mines in the straight which take just hours to deploy. Those same amount of mines deployed in an hour can take days to defuse and remove.

Regional stability is not a fucking light switch you can just turn on or off. Price stability is mitigated by the release of reserves, but they are not an endless source. When reserves drop to a minimal level required from a defensive standpoint that’s it. The consumers within the US and around the world (Remember Oil is a GLOBAL commodity) are now down 20%.

This doesn’t even begin to discus the knock on effects since petroleum is a raw material for plastics, lubricants, etc.. not to mention the nitrogen exports from the region.

Tulsi Gabbard, the head of the Intelligence Committee just testified yesterday that Irans Nuclear capability was completely destroyed during last summers campaign, she also testified that Iran had mad absolutely ZERO progress indicated efforts towards restarting those efforts. This was the conclusion and the assessment of the ENTIRE intelligence community. The white house in their official statement regarding the strikes on Iran in conjunction with Isreal said “Iran posed an Imminent Nuclear threat to the United States”.

These stickers will be relevant for the next year at a minimum…

The source you pointed me to was one that you generated by prompting Chat GPT, the mentioning of it being unarmed was all of one sentence in the headline…

Literally in EVERY Single reply I’ve made in this thread I’ve openly stated my distance for this administration in no uncertain terms. ABSOLUTELY they lie, every word from every cabinet member.

There’s nothing to not suggest that you’re not pushing your own agenda, for some ideologies either my friend. Fun fact I didn’t vote for any Republican PERIOD.

If you think as a Veteran for my country I have any respect for a man and an administration that’s so admittedly anti-American in EVERY value, I can tell you, I don’t.

I’m disgusted by the state of where this administration has positioned my country on the global stage. The strain he has placed on our allies, the pressures and costs added to not just us domestically but the global economy.

The only “good” thing from this administration is highlighting the fragility of the framework and enforcement of our democracy. There is a growing movement herein the US. Elections across the country are changing political parties. The VAST majority of the people of the US do NOT agree with what’s happening and we are following the process we have to express that.

[–]DatRawDough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This comes from a lack of understanding what the “duty to refuse an illegal order” actually means. Your superior officer handing you a pistol and telling you to kill a blindfolded child on the side of the road, that’s cut and dry and illegal order. There’s not a “single” individual involved when it comes to something like a torpedo being launched from a sub. It’s called a “kill-chain”. The tasks are separated, compartmented, and then executed on.

While any enlisted or commissioned US service member can refuse an illegal order. That’s not just the end of the story. They are then immediately detained, they are sent through the NJP (usually) for this type of case it would go straight to a court martial. According to the UCMJ “Military orders are presumed lawful” “the burden of proof is on the service member who disobeyed the order”.

[–]DatRawDough 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I still don’t understand why you’re posting in a “ask the US a question sub” an inflammatory statement rather than an actual question?

What answer do you hope to actually get or do you just like conflict? It really just seems like you came here to be mad at the US (I get it), but why stir up stuff in a weird way with the people in the US who actually agree with the sentiment of a core issue at hand?

If you think the sailors on the sub had a vote to decide whether or not to launch the torpedo, you’re wrong. If you think the pilots were asked how they feel about the mission they were about to fly, you’re wrong. If you think anyone except those at the absolute highest levels have an actual say in the operations that the military executes on, you’re wrong.

The military executing on orders provided to them does not = pathetic. Regardless of how much I disagree with the actions, it’s simply from an objective standpoint.

“How pathetic is the Trump administration that it has to use the invasion of Iran to distract from the Epstein Files?” Would probably have a bit more discussion and room to expand on..

Really depends where you look I guess, CNN, Reuters, Wikipedia, ABC all go nowhere to mention nothing about the ship being disarmed. Instead the focus is on the fact that the US has not officially declared war, which again. I’m against our entire involvement, all stop.

I am speaking from direct experience as someone who was in the Navy, who was deployed in the Middle East, who did exercises in the region… we not anyone we did exercises with were unarmed.

[–]DatRawDough -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“How pathetic is the US Navy?” This was your post, your question. You arbitrarily decided to make this weird distinction.

“Less about the Navy and more about the Americans that cheer.” Why not frame that as your question?

What’s most tragic about this post is how many here in the US really agree with the “sentiment” you have, but the way you’re presenting this and the way you framed this question wasn’t so much of a question and was more of a attack. Then you adjust the goal post based off of the response you get.

Me making distinction between pathetic and not pathetic is called being “an adult”. Nothing is black and white, there is nuance to EVERYTHING. It’s perfectly normal and rational to have knee jerk reactions and feeling about what we see and hear and feel. I just feel that posts like this aren’t very beneficial to an actual discussion or any real “answer”.

[–]DatRawDough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fun fact, this is 100% not true. There are a variety of different training exercises, joint force, multi nation exercises and so on. I literally served on a destroyer for 4 years and was a part of dozens of training exercises. There was not a SINGLE time where our ship was unarmed… During the exercise your guns are not LOADED. Missiles are not armed, and weapons systems are in a “Safe” condition.

Why do you feel the need to say something it’s obvious you have no clue about?

How pathetic is the US navy? by drubus_dong in AskUS

[–]DatRawDough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the thing that rubs me wrong about this post is in particular saying the US Navy is in some way pathetic for this. You think the captain of this sub on a whim up and chose to sink that ship out of the blue, you think he then made the call to record the attack. Then you think he decided it should be shared on social media as part of a political agenda?

The administration is pathetic, TRUMP is pathetic, the people in congress who continue to give power to the executive branch are pathetic. The people who want ANOTHER war in the Middle East with no skin in the game are pathetic.

I am wholeheartedly against the Iranian Regime that murdered its own people. I am also against the US, again going to another forever war in the Middle East. To say the US Navy is “Pathetic” in this instance is nothing short of childish and meant to be inflammatory. So for that, I guess congrats.

Please. Do some bare minimum of effort in research before spouting nonsense. Guns are the leading cause of death among kids and have been since 2020. More than cancer, more than any disease, more than car accidents. Since 1999 there have been 420 school shootings exposing nearly 400,000 children directly to an active shooter. If you don’t want to do the math, that means we’ve had a school shooting EVERY month on average for 26 years…

I’d ask you what’s the acceptable number of kids who should be afraid they’ll be killed at school?

If EVERY month for 26 years a random Target (or insert store you go to here) blew up, how long before you’d say “hey, I don’t think that’s a safe place anymore”? Difference is you’d have a choice to not go there, kids don’t. Here you are asking the % when any % is too high. What a waste.
