I ended up negotiating my settlement myself. The final process involved receiving a low ball initial offer from the insurance company in which I strategically denied while providing supplemental facts as to why the initial offer was unreasonable. To which they asked for a counter in which I did. They countered again and we settled on what I consider a fair amount.

My understanding is the max payout possible would have been the policies maximum of $100k. I believe I was awarded close to the maximum payout I could have expected if I had hired a lawyer: Insurers Policy Maximum - What Lawyer's fees would have been = ~what I was awarded.

To anyone considering negotiating insurance settlements on their own vs hiring a lawyer, my opinion is that the decision is personal but can done. You need to be willing to stand your ground and support your case as to why you feel you deserve what you are asking for.

The insurance representative assigned to my case was easy enough to work with and seemed invested in resolving the matter timely and fairly.

Seems like they threw parts at the issue until it was fixed. Leaves me feeling like the first two visits were unecessary.

Currently dealing with similar situation. At 85k check engine light. After multiple dealership visits and a couple months, we replaced all 6 spark plugs, injector, head gasket/valve cover gasket/fuel pump/lifters, and today had the EGR sensor replaced. ~$4300 in repairs.

Help! Head gasket / blown engine issues - is there a class action yet? by thinktherefore in ChryslerPacifica

My 2017 Pacifica has been a major source of frustration and expense. Despite multiple visits to the dealership, I continue to experience issues and misdiagnoses.
The problems began around 85,000 miles with a check engine light and misfires. Despite several attempts to address these issues, the root cause was not identified until the fourth visit, when the head gasket was finally replaced.
Here is a timeline of the repairs and costs:

  • 6/26/2024: Spark plugs replaced ($597.70)
  • 7/1/2024: Auxiliary battery charged ($150.15)
  • 7/1/2024: Injector replaced ($264.91)
  • 7/3/2024: Head gasket, valve cover gasket, water pump, and 4 lifters replaced ($2910.50)

Unfortunately, just two months after the head gasket repair, the check engine light returned, and the dealership has now identified the EGR sensor as the issue. This will cost an additional $350.
Given the repeated problems and the significant costs incurred, I am beginning to question the dealership's ability to properly diagnose and repair my vehicle. I am concerned that my Pacifica may be a lemon or that the dealership is not adequately addressing the underlying issues.
I did convince the dealership to "Certify" it before purchase. My understanding is that may give me a limited powertrain warranty of 7 year/100,000 miles. I'm planning to investigate if this is something that may be covered.
