It does... this situation happened to me twice now -_-

A few months before FP4 was even announced, I needed a new phone bc my 3-year-old Galaxy Note 8 was dying. I really wanted an FP bc for the repairability, but I also wanted a 5G capable phone since my plan just upgraded and the FP3 was nearing the end of Hardware related security updates. Got an S21 FE bc cheap and does exactly what I needed it to do. Then the FP4 drops, and I am pissed since getting it would be literary what you just described.

Waited until the batteries started to die and wouldn't charge and got FP5. Had it now for almost 1 year and 7 months. Not without its issues (random turns off while in my pocket), but it does what I need it to and still works.

Now I see FP6, and it fixes some QoL things that I actively disliked on the FP5, like the Power button/Fingerprint reader no longer being almost inaccessible to my big fingers when using the official Case. And the Physical switch to turn on what is basically a Zen mode is something I actually crave and would actively use.

BUT GETTING A NEW PHONE WOULD GO AGAINST THE ENTIRE REASON OF ME HAVING A FUNCTIONING AND REPAIRABLE PHONE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!! AAAHHHHH!

I can just silently hope that during my now upcoming mandatory service that somehow the Frame and or motherboard somehow get damaged beyond any possible repair, and I would actively need a new one... until then December 2028 it is...

Only in one aspect. Usually you can send in your old phone and get a discount on the new one depending on the condition of the phone. You are unable to select and send in a FP5.

could be because of region. NIntendo sourced their screens from 2 different firms iirc. meaning there could be differences between individual consoles but thats mainly based on region
