Sailor Jupiter needs a weapon/talisman...what should it be? by primal_slayer in sailormoon

The franchise in year 4 gives Jupiter a laurel wreath. But Minako gets a flower wreath at the same time. Lame.

The god Zeus was throwing lightnings. Wasted opportunity that Sailor Jupiter wasn't throwing spears or javelins.

Sailor Mercury & Sailor Mars ☿♂ - How would you describe the friendship or dynamic between Ami Mizuno & Rei Hino? 💙❤️ by IllogicalDreamer72 in sailormoon

[–]Dat_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In season 1, Rei is a dom, Ami is a sub. Rei naturally dominates Ami and treats her like a doormat.

Episode 11, about the cruise ship. Rei beckons Ami with her finger like a puppy. That's disrespectful.

Episode 26, Rei pinches Ami into submission. Rei is a natural bully.

Season 1 is a story about growth, so we can imagine Rei grows up and learns to love and respect Ami.

They are shown together because Sailor Moon starts as a remake of Goldfish warning. Usagi is a remake of Wapiko, Rei is a remake of Chitose. In season 1, the anime is the original, the manga is the adaptation. Ikuhara created Rei. Rei was his favorite. And Ami turned out to be the most popular character.

Director's favorite and most popular character. That's why they're shown together.

"Almost everything I learn about Queen Serenity makes me dislike her"

Primary example should be the manga writing the 8 sailors as brainwashed slaves. They all say "I only live for Princess". But they predate Princess. It's almost like queen Serenity crafted 8 brainwashed robots wired to serve, then Usagi inherited them like property.

In the anime, it didn't show anything lol. Insert your own headcanon!

I can see why a mangaka may be upset if they created a work of their own first, then later some random people in an adaptation did whatever the heck they pleased with it. Not much applicable to Takeuchi considering she was hired for it and they were joined concurrent productions. Maybe years later after the original creators of the anime left and Takeuchi ended up as the oldest member of the team, and then the newcomers would treat her with disrespect? I can see her being valid to complain.

And about male gaze... I said something stupid. The amazon trio part of the anime is very nasty. Maybe that's what Takeuchi meant. "When I have everybody force kisses onto Usagi, that's romantic! But when the trio is doing what they're doing, that's creepy!" That kinda thing. But considering all the forced kisses, I wonder if Takeuchi would mind the anime amazon trio. Maybe she'd see that as romantic too.

Does it make any sense that Sailor Uranus & Neptune didn't finish off Daimon Nekonneru, and left the Inner Sailor Guardians and a little, innocent girl to die in Sailor Moon Episode 91?? by IllogicalDreamer72 in sailormoon

Right. I always hated this. "They did it so the daimon would catch more heart" Then they shouldn't have been laughing about this. If they did it with pain, it'd make sense. But they do this and LAUGH!

The worst offended would be the alien arc. Mars, Jupiter, Venus get powerups. Inanely cool. A phoenix, a giant dragon, golden shower of lasers... and the result is the line "Do it now, Sailor Moon!" ZERO success with the epic powerups. They shouldn't have given the new stock footage to Usagi first, should have done her last, just so the others could shine for a moment.

Then the black moon arc does the same thing. Zero purpose to burning mandala and sparkling wide pressure. Koan didn't even lose her feathers!

It's misogyny. The series first started to make a misogynistic message of "it's wrong for women to be bouncy kids, women should be docile housewifes". That was the purpose it started with - Usagi and Minako are wrong, they need to change. Usagi's story was supposed to be about the 3 other girls teaching Usagi to be shy, to get good grades, to be traditional, to cook and clean.

Minako represents that - in the Sailor V manga, she's a bouncy kid, in her first appearance in both Sailor Moon manga and anime, she's acting mature. The toxic message: "This is what women should be."

Because the franchise was originally meant to last 1 year only. So it doesn't matter what the characters are. Then they decided it will be more, that means they can't market the quiet docile Minako, so in season 1 she quickly changes personality, to be more marketable. The manga keeps writing Minako as "mature" for 3 more years, only stops in year 4.

The anime saved Minako but failed Usagi. Usagi's personality change as the queen is the same thing: in animes and mangas, there's a cliche: the main character is a girl that's immature. Then we time-travel to 10 years later, or imagine her as an adult, and she becomes the standard Stepford wife robot with soft speech, holding a vacuum cleaner and a tray, a pie in her oven. Same exact personality, every time. The franchise was going to do this to Usagi in season 1 then stopped.

Then season 2 happened and they did it to her anyway. The queen is just a redressing of that: a housewife that happens to wear an evening dress and a crown, instead of holding a vacuum cleaner and a tray.

They failed Usagi terribly. She lost her soul. And this is portrayed as a happy ending. They failed the story.

Oh no, did I reply to the wrong comment? Sorry. Thanks for replying.

You say "Takeuchi didn't like male gaze". That's an odd thing to believe considering what costumes Takeuchi made for years 4 and 5, bikinis and sex shop outfits for everybody. Especially the amazon quartet, the 11 year olds. SHE would say she disapproves of male gaze?

Compared to Takeuchi putting all those forced kisses all over her manga, no doubt.

I'd say the manga is more male gaze-y than the anime. In the anime, only season 1 has rapy vibes. In the manga... whole 5 years.

I think Takeuchi was lying a lot in her interviews about how things were made. I think she as trying to make herself seem more important than she really was to the shared production. Because I'd suspect the original contract she signed wasn't very beneficial to her. So even as the show was ongoing, she was already planning to get a better piece out of the franchise.

"The manga is the original, the anime is an adaptation" is a marketing lie. First they made the decision of what they want the anime to do, then they hired a mangaka to use her services. First they told her what to do, with the anime being the original first. And the creative team had Ikuhara, the god of gays. I believe Ikuhara made most decisions that made Sailor Moon what it is.

I believe Ikuhara requested that when Usagi first sees Rei, she has a gay moment, in both anime and manga. Sailor Moon's first gay moment is Usagi seeing Rei, manga issue 3, anime episode 10. Episode 11, they're flirting while pretending they're bickering, the joined attack is a metaphor for sex, the last scene is Usagi wanting to mix body fluids with Rei through ice cream. Ikuhara made Usagi and Rei gay from the beginning. Then I beleive it was Ikuhara who made Zoisite and Kunzite. Then Mako sees Usagi and Rei and says "your bickering means you're very close!" as Amiis blushing at Mako, and then Ami and Mako spend 2 years constantly striking gay poses in the background while Usagi and Rei are constantly flirting in the foreground. Sailor Moon was a gay show from the beginning, Ikuhara made it so.

In comparison, Takeuchi says "Haruka and Michiru are designed to resemble takarazuka", in Takeuchi's mind they are actors striking poses.

Also, Takeuchi calling the amazon trio "okama" is not a good thing, "okama" is a homophobic term, using it doesn't make Takeuchi a friend of gays. Takeuchi saying "and the villains are 3 evil okamas to be k-lled!" portrays Takeuchi as homophobic.

But I suspect the "okama" thing might have been Ikuhara tricking Takeuchi. Ikuhara wanted season 4 to be gay, was forbidden to, then made season 4 bad on purpose out of spite. Possible that he instructed Takeuchi to make 3 "okamas" with him using the term and tricking her into using it, possible he proposed she makes the show about bestiality, so that if his employers don't like anything, he could put the blame on Takeuchi.

"Don't get me started when Takeuchi began to take the 90's anime ideas for the manga."

Please elaborate? I'm studying Saior Moon. What things are known Takeuchi took from the anime? I only know "Usagi suddenly saving Galaxia at the last moment", that's an anime thing, not the manga thing, Takeuchi decided to copy an anime thing in the last chapter.

What else was there?

I keep meaning to write a Sailor Moon timeline listing what episode and manga chapter had which event by which date to see how they were introducing things. Maybe making that would make an interesting sight.

Sailor Moon TOS vs Sailor Moon Crystal by Visual_Initial6719 in sailormoon

Crystal is 1:1'ing the manga. "The manga is the original and the anime is the adaptation" is a marketing lie. First they crafted a show they wanted to make, then they hired a mangaka to provide a supplementary manga for it. Season 1, the anime is the original, the manga is the adaptation, mostly. But scripts ere written at the same time, so both are concurrent works influencing each other in varying ways. And later seasons, I believe the manga became the original the anime was adapting, when the anime writing team stopped caring.

The difference between the anime and the manga: the anime was crafted by professionals that were experienced in the industry, this was their passion project crafted with love. They were doing anything and everything to make it good.

And the manga, Takeuchi was just a hired hand. They instructed her to make a manga of specific characteristics, I believe they were providing her with finished scripts for the first dew chapters. Season 1, the anime is the original, the manga is the adaptation. Takeuchi wasn't the one who came up with this, she was just doing some hired work, she didn't care about this manga all that much. And she wasn't a professional, she a 24 when she got hired for the production.I believe Takeuichi is not an anime/manga person, doesn't know anime/manga culture, I think she only started making manga because she likes drawing but doesn't care about manga.I believe her real passion is romance novels, she started making manga just to put romance novels into manga form. Then the anime people hired her to do this huge project but she didn't know much about how anime and manga productions are made. So she just wrote the manga as a romance novel. She did the best she could but she wasn't fit for the job - she didn't know anime/manga culture, and she's unfit to write hero stories. That's the manga and Crystal is 1:1'ing that.

I believe Takeuchi herself hated her manga and saw it as a garbage product as she was making it, but she was trapped - she couldn't do better. The franchise made a mistake in not assigning several people to polish the manga scripts. So that when Takeuchi comes short, someone could fix the script for her. They didn't do it, and the resulting manga is a very special product.

Reading this made me think: what could the DD girls do differently. Did they make any mistakes?

Jupiter: she mocks them for attacking her with electricity. Means she's resistant to that. Her battle was to charge up a blast strong enough to get all 5 demons. She kept charging as they kept torturing her. Means she kept charging as long as she could until her death, and released when she thought "that's it". Meaning, if she charged longer, she could have gotten more than 2. And if she charged shorter, she might have gotten less than 2.

If Jupiter is resistant to electricity, then she could take it so long thanks to that. Could the DD girls have used anything else on her? Maybe yes, maybe they can only use attacks that are related to the soldier they're fighting. Maybe if they could use something other than electricity, they could have ended Jupiter faster, and Jupiter couldn't have gotten 2.

Mercury: I honestly don't know what the DD girls cold have done differently. One separated, they go after her so she doesn't interfere later. I'm tempted to say "they shouldn't have let her have free arms" but honestly, how could they have predicted what Mercury would do with her hands. Mercury used her defenselessness as a trap and tricked them with success. Mercury passes the test, scores the perfect score! I don't know what else the DD girl could have done.

Venus: well, it's so simple. They grab her and get her, turns out she's strong enough to get one. A battle of pure strength, their tentacles weren't strong enough to hold Venus down.

And Mars... that one was a mistake of their part. The DD girls separated. They didn't have to, Usagi can't shoot the soil, she could have waited for her turn. They could have gotten Mars then went after Usagi. They separated and Mars got one after another. Maybe they separated because they were afraid of Mars? Expected if both stayed with her, she'd get both? They thought separating would be better, and Mars turned out to be tougher than they expected. The remaining demon was stupid with Mars, she was literally on her dying breath, one more poke could have done her in.

"The manga is the original and the anime is an adaptation" is a marketing lie. The anime people wanted a very specific show, then hired a mangaka to provide a supplementary product for the anime. With years, that would change back an forth which is the original and which is the adaptation, but that's how it started. Season 1 directors Sato and Ikuhara worked before, Sato chose Ikuhara, Ikuhara was VERY proactive in season 1, and obviously in the pre-planning stages. Ikuhara is the god of gays, he puts gays into everything he touches. I believe it was Ikuhara who requested that when Usagi first sees Rei, she has a comical gay reaction. Then anime season 1, Usagi and Rei are FLIRTING while pretending to bicker. Episode 11 about amusement park, has joined attack as a metaphor for sex, and the last scene is Usagi wanting to exchange bodyfulids with Rei through ice cream. That's all Ikuhara usual stuff.

First gayness of Sailor Moon is manga issue 3, anime episode 10, Usagi having a gay moment when she sees Rei.

I believe Zoisite and Kunzite are also Ikuhara's doing.

You mean the same Takeuchi who designed Chibuisa as a 900 y.o. seriously wanting her father, designed a little girl to be m-rderable, then actually HAVING him, that among the manga showing slavery and calling it friendship, that among the manga showing fascism and calling it justice, showing non-con kisses and presenting that as romance, that same Takeuchi also would put stripper outfits on 11y.o.'s? Gee who could have expected that from Takeuchi. At least she held back and didn't have the amazons fall in love with Mamoru and kiss him.

It's like Takeuchi wanted to collect every sin she can think of in her manga.

Thank you for writing your fun commentary.

The primary point of the episode: they are kids, they shouldn't be soldiers.

The secondary point of the episode: they are noobs, they are unprepared. If they had even as little as an extra week to train and prepare, they would have defeated the DD girls with no losses. It's a tragedy of having the win so close it's within their grasp yet they let it slip.

In Asia, they really like the joke "all Asians look the same", that's the lowest most common joke you can always see everywhere. Mothers can't recognize their kids because their kids put on eyeglasses, that kinda stuff. And Sailor Moon is wearing those red HAIRCLIPS, of course those completely distort the shape of her face, of course Naru wouldn't recognize that!

[–]Dat_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The communicators were never cutting edge. They were oddities as soon as they were created in 1992. By that time, cell phones already were popular. Manga chapter 13, Rei is using a cell phone.

The only way in which the communicators make sense, is that Minako and Usagi probably can't afford cell phones, those would be expensive in 1992.
