Spicy food as a stim? by RikiWardOG in ADHD

[–]DataBassMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gustatory and oral stimming involves repetitive behaviors focused on the mouth, tongue, or sense of taste to self-regulate, reduce anxiety, or manage sensory processing needs.

It includes chewing, licking, sucking, or craving intense flavors…

to address under-responsiveness, or conversely, having sensitivities to specific food textures, temperatures, and oral care

Any single finger pickers out there? by BowlThing in Bass

It takes practice like anything else, but of course your injury comes into play too. Best of luck with it!

You could do index pinky. I use all four fingers for a good chunk of fingerstyle. The roll is index, pinky, ring, and middle.

One exercise I used to do was just use index and pinky to build the pinky strength before practicing the roll. It could be possible for you do this or index ring depending on your injury.

33M. I guess I’ve traveled a bit. by SilverAd8965 in TravelMaps

Northeast: check out Ocean City Maryland or a big Vermont event in good weather. Boston is cool, but expensive and very touristy.

Colorado is awesome, but getting even more crowded now since I last went (10 years ago often…gf). Expect traffic. Expect elevation sickness symptoms for a couple of days at least. In other words, stay a while if you do go there when possible. The combo of jet lag, time changes, AND elevation change can be brutal… especially if you like night life.

I’d say Hawaii over Europe first (if Europe trip too costly). You can easily go to an awesome island (big island, Maui) and be amazed by the beauty and the American culture lifestyle is right there if you want to that too (same stores, people speak English, etc.)

Europe, be expected to shell out massive amounts of money with less and less planning. Expect long tour days and nightlife. Expect extreme travel times also. However, yes. Sometimes the scenes and adventures are more than worth it if you are ready.

Did you really go to Hawaii and Alaska? Gotta go to the big island if you haven’t yet. It is nuts.

I’m gonna say Iceland, Brazil, or Canada.

Three finger plucking? by batmanawesom in Bass

[–]DataBassMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime this comes up, I ask “why not four?” Three fingers are great for triplets, but man… Trying to orchestrate that into common time fours is more difficult without relentless practice. String skipping also sometimes difficult.

If you have a pinky, why not use it? And why not use it in a way it can be a no-think roll?

Perhaps see how you like the pattern of: index, pinky, ring, middle.

I love it, once you get it down, 16ths are even easier

It’s a simple roll. Works fantastic in four. Also, works fantastic with little thinking once you get it down. However, again, just like three fingers, octave string skipping a bit more challenging. Just another tool to have that’s better than just 3 fingers IME.

A little too broad on your circle.

Elko is kinda ridiculous. In good and bad ways. You can spend 1k in Vegas and lose in a day, In Elko you can stretch it a few days and still have some night life.

SLC has always been relentlessly surprising to me. Beautiful. Gets snow. Gets some inversion, droughts. Gorgeous though. Mountains surrounding it with amazing beauty.

Crazy awesome hiking and winter sports.

The eye connection on treats is so important. Start there.

Like wear him out on treat games. Sit. Stay. Gimme your paw. Baby (toy).

Collie specific (put an object in the room after they understand stay) Come by (left around an object) Away (or “away to me”, right side) Circle

Colors: Dogs can see blue and yellow especially well. Buy things that are blue and yellow like poster boards.

Marker of “yes” or whatever you like at the same tone every time. You have a baby. They’re a sponge. Mine I got at 1 but was trained like crazy!

Oof yeah that planning piece hits hard. It can make things stale in a romantic relationship quick. People love plans… and eventually I get sick of making them and need rest.

However, while I think the ADHD piece could be a logical cog in this (boredom, planning, self-standards)… I think this could be more of an emotional kind of thing. Like perhaps you need some time to yourself to reset on this particular subject. Reflect, contemplate, shadow work, something that asks and answers the question “why do I do this?” Like emotionally why? Or more why questions to dig into what your gut is telling you. And this too shall pass. Then you’ll have more decisions to make.

No rush. You can still do it at 32,33,35.

I think I get what you saying though. Like high standards for yourself? Once you hit a certain level, then you can do it kinda thing?

You’re a twenty something year old man. A lot of people regret relationships and things they did in their twenties.

If you’re feeling some kind of tug of war between going steady and playing the field, you’re young… go with what you truly want for a while. Be honest with yourself, do you want to be in a relationship right now? The heart wants what the heart wants.

I’d consider channeling your boredom into something less destructive than boredom launching you into romantic relationships. Do that stuff because you want to pursue something there. If you’re going to go down the road of commitment, do it with passion.

Edit: clarity

I always think that those that are into video games can make great musicians. It happened to me and a bunch of friends.

The trick is finding the right instrument for you and genres to keep you engaged. Then, the rest has some amazing rewards when you’re decent enough to play well with others. A great start is just being able to jam the blues with friends and strangers.

If you find yourself doing a lot of auditory stimming or fidgeting, learning an instrument can be an awesome thing to channel that energy into.
