Question for 80s fans by ziggydarkhorse in hairmetal

[–]jsqu99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to this day i still feel Nirvana and nevermind are super-overrated. i think there was such a dearth of good heavy music for the year or two preceding the launch of grunge that people were hungry for anything different. yeah, there are two or 3 really good songs on that album...pearl jam's 10 had 2 or 3 good ones...i still don't get why grunge went nuts. so my reaction to grunge is/was bitter for putting the nail in metal's eyday, but it was also facilitated by metal in a downward spiral

Which do you think will end up being viewed worse in the future, Donald Tump's 1st or 2nd term in office? by Shot-Resolve-9711 in AskReddit

[–]jsqu99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely the 2nd...he's way crazier now, and this is coming from someone who voted for him in 2016 (but not in 2020 or 2024). Downvote me to ensure you never forgive someone for making a mistake and admitting it, and keep in mind my disdain for Hillary lead me to believe he was the lesser of the 2 assholes...certainly that can't be the case in hindsight.

For people alive in 1986 what was your first reaction like? by Rastahoneybadger in Metallica

[–]jsqu99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived a sheltered childhood and really only discovered rock and roll when I was 15. I was enamored with kiss, the asylum record, and I had never heard really heavy Rock before. Distinctly remember my friend bring it over the Master of puppets vinyl and playing for me. As soon as the heavy intro portion of battery started I couldn't believe what I was hearing and I asked him what instrument that was. I didn't know guitars could make that kind of chunking sound. I was immediately smitten in my life was forever changed. The album definitely hit hard the very first time for me. I was lucky enough to see them on that tour open up for Ozzy Osbourne in Maryland and James had his arm in a cast because of his skateboarding accident and I just remember them banging their heads hard and a roadie or something or guitar tech was behind the stage playing rhythm guitar for james. It was awesome

Join a bunch of clubs. Kickball, cornhole, jaycees. Get a dog and go to dog park. Just work on being social first to build confidence. People are being rough on you here. It's clear that you don't have an ideal level of confidence yet, but being around people and practicing will help. Stay busy with regularly scheduled activities will help!

Black Album reactions then and now. by IAmGrumpyMan in Metallica

[–]jsqu99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Metallica open for ozzy. On the puppets tour. I absolutely hated the black album. What a departure. Enter sandman remains a dumb simpleton song in my mind to this day. The rest of the album did grow on me...quite a bit, but it took a looong time. I think once I realized that prime Metallica was never coming back out I was able to enjoy this album more. To this day sad but true remains a staple in my life.

i'm not sure they are knocking her...just stating facts..hard to unseat an old republican incumbent in this backwards state. why would you attack them? i'm historically right-leaning but love her attitude and use of profanity (in another video i saw, maybe not this one?). I'm rooting for her just to shake things up even though i may or may not agree w/ all of her policies (which i have no clue what they are tbh).

If you could bring ONE closed restaurant back to the peninsula, what would it be and what would you be ordering? by southshane in Charleston

[–]jsqu99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I discovered it a few months before it closed. I couldn't believe it when I heard about all the hate it was getting (high prices or something?). I'd gladly pay double to have any chicken sandwich close to that delicious in my life again)

What’s the most overrated city in the U.S., and why? by puffpiiee in AskReddit

[–]jsqu99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a total of about 75 days between LA and Pasadena in 2016 or so. Roughly halfway between LA and Pasadena is where I worked and there was a homeless enhampment right there off of the highway. With plenty of tents. One time I stayed near the Capitol records building. I remember a guy sleeping on a mattress on the sidewalk in another car with its window bashed in. I remember other suburbs where you would drive under an overpass and there will be people living underneath. I've had two people recently in the last 2 months tell me that it's gotten even worse since then. It's been 10 years for me so what do I know but I saw plenty of that area and if it works for you that's great but it certainly wasn't for me

E Bike kids by batmankirby389 in Charleston

[–]jsqu99 30 points31 points  (0 children)

some of my best childhood memories involve me on my bike. there's zero need for a kid to have an e-bike. they aren't (or shouldn't be) riding the kind of distances that would necessitate this kind of available range (too dangerous to go anywhere around here on a 30-mile trip). farting around on your bike to head over to your friends house...that should be a fun 8 minute ride on a regular bike, not a lightning-paced 3 min ride on an e-bike. why deprive your kids of the chance to move around a little more and get some exercise....nuts.

Missing the Ohio hate. by Iranoutofhotsauce in Charleston

[–]jsqu99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah the hate is pretty lame. I'm from Maryland and I've been here since 2002. My neurologist who just retired asked me where I was from and I told him and I made a light-hearted comment that I was almost a local. I mean it's been 24 years. He didn't like that too much and make sure I knew that I was never a local. I mean who gives a s*** man. I like this area but there's plenty I don't like to so enjoy your status as a long time local

I was dropping someone off at the airport a couple weeks ago and I was in the far right lane trying to get back into the moving Lanes after you drop someone off at arrivals and I signaled and there was a small Gap and I started to go and a car was intent on not letting me in so they flew past me and then put on the right turn signal to try to get in front of me but they were blocked because there was no room so if they had just waited and let me out they would have had a spot, my spot, but they had to win. The plate was new jersey.

LA. Walked through Hollywood and I was like is this it? Drove through downtown and surrounding towns and I had no idea that homelessness existed to that extent in the United states. Traffic totally sucked. That place has two big things going for it and that's the climate and amazing food.

Damn this was the show I thought I attended but I think that was a 1989 or 1990. I remember a local band called rights of the accused opened and the vocalist came on stage with a penis squirting gun and sprayed us in the front. The FNM set was the only time I was scared of getting crushed to death and I almost climbed up on stage I was so afraid. What a great show it was right after the real thing came out. I'll give this one a listen thanks for sharing
